How would you rate your own overall health on a scale of 1-10 right now (10 being top marks, 1 being lowest)?

I can tell you personally after coaching with more than a thousand people the average is between 4-6. The lower of those scores being the folks with aches, pains, weight or other issues, running through to the higher grades that gave answers such as; ‘I used to be really fit, but then I just got a bit lazy’, or ‘I know I should do something about this (pain/flab/headache, etc) but I never get around to it.

The big ‘W’ weight.

Above all, being overweight and unfit are the two biggest culprits that can then open the door to so many other conditions and illnesses. According to a report by the Royal College of Physicians, the Faculty of Public Health, and the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health over half the UK population are either overweight or obese (with a body mass index of more than 30), which breaks down to 70% of men and 63% of women.

Currently, one in 5 adults and one in 20 children under the age of 16 are obese, and if current trends continue it is estimated that at least one third of adults & children will be obese by 2020 – and these figures are more or less similar in other developed or developing countries around the world. I’m not writing this simply to shock you, but to impress upon you the absolute importance of maintaining your body in as good a shape as possible.

People come to me in coaching to help them create a great business plan, to move forward in some area of their life, to stoke up their motivation in a project. Yet, the one most solid basis for any of that is to be as healthy as possible. In creating a healthy life plan, to be in optimum health, is the one sure-fire way of achieving that success. Most experts believe there are 4 basic areas to achieving a better quality of health.

* Belief systems.

* Food & eating habits.

* Exercise.

* Support.

Belief Systems.

Simply, what goes on in your head creates who you are and what you do with your life. That’s wonderful if all is well. If however, something is not as you want, whether it is health, career, finance, etc, one of the first areas to look at should be belief, because what you believe you generally create.

Food & eating habits.

You already know this! There has now been so much information on nutrition, diets, slimming, weight loss, optimum health and the like published that unless you’ve been living on Pluto the last few decades you must have been aware of at least some of it. What those articles don’t tackle however, is what might be right for you. We are all different; we all enjoy, and dislike different things. Therefore, taking an individual approach, one that works for you, is key to achieving success.

Exercise.

Exercise should be tailored to your own body, age and lifestyle. It’s like saying ‘everyone likes ice cream’ sure, some people do, though even with those, some would prefer chocolate, vanilla or strawberry.

Exercise can be so much more than going to the gym. If you have a fabulous gym near you that fires your imagination, then that’s great. However, if not, then ask yourself ‘what would be a fun way for me to raise my energy with?’ A couple of my friends bought inline roller skates and spend Sunday’s rolling around the park. Another rents a bike and takes a day trip to the country.

What would it be for you, because if you do find the fun in exercise it’s the one area that’ll affect all others?

Support.

This doesn’t mean someone doing all the work for you. It doesn’t mean that if you don’t have the support of your partner or best friend it can’t be done, and it certainly doesn’t mean that if you can’t afford a personal trainer or nutritionist, better health & fitness are impossible.

What it DOES mean is that you can begin today to support yourself better and more systematically. Do whatever you need to do to take ownership of your own well-being and begin the journey to achieving better, more vibrant health for you.

Spas are places where a person can get a wide range of health treatments and beauty treatments that are meant to relax and relieve the person from stress and strain. Due to extreme stress in professional life, spas have become more popular offering relaxation treatments with a bigger price tag. The word spa is derived from Latin “solus per aqua”, which means health through water. The spa concept of immersing the body of the person in water to restore and maintain health is considered to be very important to life. According to Sebastain Kneipp, father of hydrotherapy, water and herbs mixed in the right combination; can be used to cure any illness. Today’s modern life style has made people feel sick, stress and exhausted. To maintain a good balanced diet, good exercise and enough rest has become a real challenging issue for both men and women. They get stress from working all the day and get even more aggravated when doing the household chores after the day’s work.

There are different kinds of spas like the day spas where the person has to make an appointment and get treated. Resort spas are like staying in a hotel, spas on cruise ships as one of the relaxing ways, medical spas which are run by medical practitioners to treat patients, home spas for daily indulgence in homes etc. The spa treatments include facials, massages, sauna and other skin and body treatments like pedicure, manicure etc. Some spas are dedicated to particular health aspects like weight loss regime or for back pain treatment.

Latest breakthrough in spa technology involves ultrasonic waves, ozone negative ions and far infrared rays into a single portable home spa machine. This machine provides relief from stress and from common illnesses. Studies have revealed that five minutes of ultrasonic bubble treatment is equal to massage done for an hour. Like the traditional massage of applying pressure directly on the body tissues, this too applies pressure by dilating the cells and penetrating the skin. This ultrasonic home spa provides relaxation and massage to the body, cleans deeply, provides internal warming, beauty contouring etc. For an aroma hydrotherapy to be done at home, one needs to add few drops of herbal oils like the sandalwood oil, citrus oil or lavender oil to enjoy and feel the natural healing of a waterfall, forest bath or a hot spring.

Health benefits of home spas:

Apart from making the person relaxed and rejuvenated, a home spa can even benefit them health-wise too. A home spa can improve the health of a person when used with bath oils and spa salts. It improves the removal of metabolic wastes and toxins from the body. It enhances the oxygenation of the extremities and joints, blood circulation is improved. The muscles are toned with a youthful and glowing complexion. It increases the metabolic rate, enhancing the power to burn calories quickly and promotes weight loss.

It normalizes the blood pressure levels, lowers the cholesterol levels, balances acid-alkaline levels in the body, boosts immunity, improves the flow of lymph, reduces aches and pains of the muscles and joints, enhances the mood and improves the digestive system.

Of course exercise is going to help with weight loss, and so will counting calories. These are hardly “tips” or ground-breaking news. But do you know what else can make you healthier from the inside out?

Everyone has heard the old adage “You are what you eat.” This saying exists for a reason. It doesn’t, however, just mean that you should eat low calorie foods or watch your junk food intake, both of which are critical to maintain a healthy weight. It also means eating foods that are both nutritionally dense and powerful in every way they can be. How can these foods be powerful, you ask? Food can make your moods improve almost as much as exercise. It can make your skin appear more youthful. In short, it can make you more beautiful and healthy from the inside out! Some foods to consume freely are almonds, salmon, broccoli and berries.

Almonds are high in the “good” fats, or the kind that lower cholesterol. They are also filling, so you won’t be tempted to binge on the sugary, salty stuff if you have a handful of almonds. They are high in Vitamin E, and make a great-tasting natural snack. Salmon is also full of the good kind of fats. Although its high fat content makes some people shy away, it is actually quite healthy to eat a good amount of salmon a week. The Omega-3 fatty acids found in salmon are good for your heart, your hair skin and nails and your complexion. Again, they are not problematic for your cholesterol. Try substituting your chicken meal once a week with salmon, and having grilled salmon in your salad for lunch. There is good evidence out there that fish such as salmon improves and elevates your mood as well, as does getting in a good workout! Broccoli is just one of the most potent foods around. It is chock full of vitamins, fiber, protein and antioxidants. Your body would benefit greatly if you ate your broccoli! Berries, too, are a powerhouse in antioxidants. Vitamins and antioxidants like the kind found in broccoli and berries are great for your complexion, heart, stress, and overall health.

Other than eating better, more healthfully, and exercising, what else can one do to stay fit and healthy? Go to the doctor!

Immediately, you may be thinking “I am healthy and fit. Why do I need to see a doctor?” Not because anything is wrong, but because you should get various check-ups that you may just be missing. In other words, you should see certain professionals for preventative reasons. If you are over 40 and female, for example, you should be having a mammogram annually. If you have had breast cancer in your family, you may want to check with your doctor about having your first one at 35. Your dentist – twice annually – can stave off periodontal problems and other health concerns. Believe it or not, diseased gums have been linked to serious conditions such as heart disease and stroke! Even if you feel you are not at risk for such things, the health of your mouth is important. You want those natural choppers for as long as you can keep them, so when you are elderly you don’t miss out on the pleasures of food! While we’re on the topic of pleasures, what about the pleasure of the warm, summer sun? There is no reason you can’t still enjoy the sunshine so long as you wear protective sunscreen. However, most people don’t think to go to the dermatologist at least once a year and get an all-over skin screening. The dermatologist is another doctor to keep on your regular calendar of appointments so that he or she can check for unusual moles, skin discolorations, and any other pre-cancerous causes for concern. You don’t just need a dermatologist for acne, you know! Regular checkups with your general practitioner can also be beneficial, for blood pressure screens, checking your thyroid, and just over-all health checks once a year.

A more fun visit to a health care professional could involve the alternative therapies, such as chiropractic or massage. Both of these tools for health have proven beneficial in healing back or neck pain, or other pain not easily corrected by anything other than surgery. If you have muscle or joint issues that don’t seem to be resolved with rest, but you are not prepared for or in need of surgery, a visit to the chiropractor may be just what the doctor ordered, so to speak. Spine alignment has been shown to greatly improve back and neck pain, shoulder pain, hip pain and even headaches or sinus problems. And who doesn’t enjoy a good massage? A qualified massage therapist can lift your spirits, ease muscle tension, and relieve stress – all of which help to produce a happier, healthier you!

Health Care is nothing but – prevention, treatment, and management of common illness , diseases and ailments. In other words, it’s the preservation of mental and physical well-being through the various health care services provided by the medical, nursing, and allied health care providers.

Tips for preventing and controlling Heartburn (Gastro-esophageal Reflux Disease)

1. Check your medicines: Avoid drugs, particularly painkillers that may contribute to heartburn.

2. Examine your diet: Avoid foods that seem to trigger heartburn like caffeine, chocolate, high-acid foods (such as citrus and tomato juices) and mint-flavored foods. Dairy foods can be triggers in people who are lactose-intolerant. Avoid fatty foods, especially animal fat. Also, it is a myth that carbonated drinks relieve heartburn. Just the opposite is true.

3. Exercise: A regular aerobic exercise program, even a brisk daily walk, helps many people with heartburn. It reduces stress and helps you lose weight. However, don’t exercise right after a meal.

4. Reduce Stress

Stress busters come in many forms. Some techniques recommended by experts are to think positive thoughts. Spend 30 minutes a day doing something you like. (i.e., go back to number one above!, exercise is a great stress reducer, Soak in a hot tub; walk on the beach or in a park; read a good book; visit a friend; play with your dog; listen to soothing music; watch a funny movie. Get a massage, a facial or a haircut. Meditate. Count to ten before losing your temper or getting aggravated. Avoid difficult people when possible.

5. Don’t Drink too Much Alcohol

Whilst it is true that a glass of wine or one drink a day (two for men) can help protect against heart disease, more alcohol than that, or binge drinking on a night out, can cause other serious health problems such as liver and kidney disease and cancer.

Caring for your baby at home …

* Most newborn babies spend most of their time sleeping and eating. You want to make sure that baby has a safe place to sleep and is put to sleep in a safe position.

* A safe crib will have slats no more than 2 3/8 inches apart and corner posts less than 5/8 inch high above the rails.

* Baby should sleep on a firm mattress that fits tightly in the crib, cradle or bassinet.

* Do not put pillows, comforters or other soft padded materials in the bed under the baby.

* Put healthy infants to sleep on their backs or sides.

Nutrition and food Safety Tips

1. Wash your hands with soap before you handle food and again after touching raw meat, fish or poultry.

2. When eating, always consider whether what you are about to eat will benefit your baby and try to avoid those foods that are low in nutrition value.

3. Wash all fruits and vegetables thoroughly.

Everybody must be aware of the wide range of sexually transmitted diseases that could put us at risk. Just take a look at the guide to sexually transmitted diseases that we’ve put together below & you’ll soon discover everything you need to know.

Sexually transmitted diseases and STIs are highly contagious infections or diseases that are transmitted via sexual contact, which includes everything from vaginal intercourse and oral sex to anal sex.

A substantial number of sexually transmitted diseases and STIs can also be transmitted by using dirty syringes after they’ve already been used by an a person that is infected with an STD. They can also be transmitted to a sufferer’s children through childbirth or breastfeeding.

Different Types

You can discover more about the wide range of sexually transmitted diseases and STIs below, because we’ve listed lots of handy info about some of the most widespread.

Syphilis is a truly hardcore sexually transmitted infection, which is caused by nasty bacteria that’s called treponema pallidum. Syphilis is generally transmitted during sexual contact. It can also be passed on by direct skin contact with somebody that has syphilis sores or a syphilis rash or by a blood transfusion. The symptoms are exactly the same in men & women, but they can be difficult to recognise. Without any treatment, the syphilis infection can be the cause of hardcore long-term damage & cause death.

Warts are an extremely widespread sexually transmitted infection. They’re caused by the human papilloma virus, which can be passed on during sexual contact. However, not everyone who has the virus develops genital warts. It is unusual for genital warts to cause sufferers any long-term health problems.

Treatment

If you believe that you may have a sexually transmitted disease or sexually transmitted infection, there are many sexual health clinics that’ll be able to offer tests & offer treatment. To find out where your nearest clinic is, merely contact your nearest health authority who’ll be happy to help you.

On the other hand, you can merely visit you Dr who’ll also be able to help you. Don’t be nervous about the explicit nature of your problem – the doctor will often see similar sexual health issues.

Prevention

The only way to be 100% safe from sexually transmitted diseases and STIs is by failing to engage in sexual activity altogether. However, if you’re sexually active, you can safeguard your sexual health by undergoing regular sexual health tests. Needless to say, wearing condoms during any kind of sexual contact is also a must. Using condoms will safeguard you against pregnancy, as well as protecting you from a wide range of sexually transmitted diseases and STIs.

Sexual health is very important to be educated on, especially if you are sexually active yourself. Out of all the different issues that are included in the topic of sexual health, sexually transmitted diseases are definitely in the top ranking. STDs are more common than ever and are being spread at a faster rate than ever before.

When it comes to your sexual health you need to take certain precautions in order to guard yourself against these diseases, and one of the best steps you can take here is to make yourself informed and educated on the different diseases that are out there.

Chlamydia

Chlamydia is one of the most commonly contracted sexually transmitted diseases in the world and definitely one of the most important sexually transmitted diseases to discuss in the topic of sexual health.

Chlamydia is passed through sexual contact with an infected person, and an infected mother may also pass the disease onto her baby during childbirth.

Gonorrhea

Gonorrhea is another of the most popular sexually transmitted diseases, and also one that is critical to discuss when speaking about sexual health. In women gonorrhea can spread to the ovaries and fallopian tubes, and in men it can cause urethritis and penile discharge. It can also be spread from the penis to the throat during oral sex, although this is not particularly common.

Herpes

Herpes is a sexually transmitted disease that that results in painful blister-like sores that appear on the penis and vagina and it is spread by direct contact. Herpes is highly contagious if there are open sores present and it can spread even before sores form and after they heal.

Genital Warts

Another very common sexually transmitted disease, genital warts can appear on the penis, vagina, vulva, cervix, and in an around the anus and throat. There are often no symptoms at first and then a few months after contact with an infected person bumps may appear on the areas mentioned.

One of the most dangerous aspects to genital warts is that women who have developed the disease are at much higher risk of cervical cancer. In terms of treatment, warts may be treated with solution, gel, ointment, or frozen or burned off with laser or electric needle.

If you ever think you may have contracted a sexually transmitted disease you should speak to your doctor as soon as possible in order to make a proper diagnosis and then find the right method of treatment if necessary.

There are many things in life that men get easily annoyed or impatient with such as traffic jams, ignorant drivers, complaining, inappropriate text messages; the list goes on and on.  Itâ??s normal for anyone to get angry with these things, but the feelings seem stronger for some men than others.  For the extremely hot headed, the littlest thing could make them fly off the handle.  Some even enjoy having a bad temper; it makes them feel more masculine.  Uncontrolled anger can even end a marriage or career or may be deadly.  How do you know that your anger is out of control?

There has been evidence that confirms anger can diminish your health.  Anger is more than just an emotion; it is actually psychological as well as physiological.  When you lose your temper at a moments notice your nervous system leads to increased breathing and cortisol levels, higher blood pressure, dilated pupils, and headaches.  Basically your body is getting into the flight or fight response mode due to the increased stress.

A recent study found that people who had increased levels of anger with normal blood pressure were more likely to develop a coronary artery disease and 3xâ??s more likely to get a heart attack than the least angry people. Angerâ??s stress hormones could contribute to arteriosclerosis, the build up of plaques in the arteries that can cause heart attacks and strokes.   It has also been linked to depression.  Angry people are less likely to take care of themselves, eat unhealthy, smoke, and drink excessively.  Being angry is fine as long as you do something positive with it.  The greatest music and works of art have been a result of anger and frustration.

You can control anger the same ways you would relieve stress by practicing deep breathing techniques, exercising, going for a walk, leaving the environment which caused the anger, close your eyes and count to 10 and picture yourself in a calm place.  It is a common myth that acting in a rage by throwing things, for example can help rid the anger.   Blowing your stack is not a good option but neither is suppressing your anger.  If you are annoyed with someone you need to try to resolve it in a rational way by being assertive, not aggressive or passive aggressive in any way.  If you know a certain situation or person pushes your buttons, try to prepare for it or better yet avoid it.  Serious problems need to be treated with an anger management program.

Most older people do not develop mental health problems, but a significant minority have dementia or experience problems such as depression.

Introduction

It is estimated that 18% of the general population in the UK are of pensionable age and that this figure will grow to 20% by 2025. As a society, we tend to assume that older people will develop mental health problems as a ‘normal’ aspect of ageing. Most older people do not develop mental health problems, although a significant minority does. For example:

about 25% of people over 85 have dementia.
between 10-15% of people over 65 have depression
between 4-23% of older adults seen by medical staff have an alcohol problem.

In addition to those older people who have an identifiable mental illness such as dementia, there are many who experience psychological or emotional distress associated with isolation, loneliness or loss. These problems are not recorded by the health or medical care system.

What problems affect people in later life?

Dementia

Dementia is a decline in mental ability which affects memory, thinking, problem solving, concentration, perception and behaviour. Some forms of dementia, such as Alzheimer’s disease, are degenerative. That is, they get worse over time. Other forms of dementia, such as vascular dementia, may be non-degenerative. That is, they may not get worse over time.

People with dementia can become confused. Some people also become restless or display repetitive behaviour. They may also seem irritable, tearful or agitated. This can be very distressing for both the person with dementia and their family and friends. Some people with dementia also develop other problems such as depression, disturbed sleep, aggression, inappropriate sexual behaviour and incontinence, although the latter issues tend to be associated with more advanced dementia.

About one in 20 people over the age of 65 are affected by dementia and this figure rises to one in four people over the age of 85 (Audit Commission, 2000). People under the age of 65 can develop dementia but this is rare and is known as early onset or pre-senile dementia.

What causes dementia?

Dementia occurs as a result of the death of brain cells or damage in parts of the brain that deal with our thought processes and functioning. The most common form of dementia is Alzheimer’s disease. We do not know what causes Alzheimer’s disease but we do know that ageing is the biggest risk factor. The second most common type of dementia is vascular or multi-infarct dementia. This occurs as a result of a series of mini-strokes which constrict blood flow and oxygen to the brain.

Can dementia be prevented and is there a cure?

Most types of dementia cannot be cured but a number of psychological treatments and anti-dementia drugs can be very effective for those in the early stages of dementia. It is therefore very important to get a proper assessment of cognitive function from a medical practitioner as early as possible.

There are no guaranteed ways of preventing dementia, but you may find it helpful to follow a sensible diet and pursue a healthy lifestyle. Regular physical exercise and supplements like Gingko Biloba can help to ensure that there is always a good supply of blood to the brain. Please consult your GP before taking such medication. You can also help yourself by keeping your mind active, for example by doing crosswords or puzzles.

Depression

Depression describes a range of moods, from feeling a bit low to a severe problem, which interferes with everyday life and normal functioning. People with severe depression may experience a range of symptoms including low mood, loss of interest and pleasure as well as feelings of worthlessness or guilt.

Depression can affect anyone, of any culture, age or background but it affects proportionally more older people than any other age group. It is estimated that around 10-15% of elderly people in the community exhibit depressive symptoms, with this proportion rising to about 40% of care home residents. That said, you will not necessarily become depressed just because you are getting older.

What causes depression?

There are a number of risk factors that play a role in increasing older people’s vulnerability to depression including:

being widowed, divorced or retired
neurobiological changes associated with ageing
use of medication for other conditions
greater physical impairment and disease
loneliness and isolation
genetic susceptibility, which increases with age.

Can depression be prevented and is there a cure?

Depression in later life is a widely under recognised and under treated medical condition. Up until recently many health professionals – including GP’s – failed to offer the treatments and supports available to other age groups. Most forms of depression can be treated, using medication, talking treatments or other strategies.

It is can be difficult to diagnose depression in older people because it often occurs alongside other mental and physical illnesses, such as dementia, stroke, diabetes and cancer. In addition many older people do not seek help from their GP until they have a number of symptoms. As with dementia, it is important to seek help as early as possible.

Self-help strategies that can help reduce the risk of depression include:

taking regular exercise
planning for critical transitions such as retirement
seeking support from family and friends following the loss of a long-term partner
ensuring that you pursue a range of interests in later life.

Dementia and depression

The relationship between dementia and depression is complex. The symptoms of dementia and depression – including withdrawal from social activities and general apathy – are very similar. An elderly person with severe depression may occasionally be misdiagnosed as having dementia. A person with dementia may also become depressed.

Alcohol abuse

It is estimated that between 4%-23% of older adults seen by medical staff experience problems with alcohol. Figures also show that older men are currently between two and six times more likely than older women to be at risk of abusing alcohol.

Although alcohol abuse is a problem for people of all ages, it is more likely to go unrecognised among older people. Many older people use alcohol to deal with loss or loneliness. Approximately 10-30% of older people who abuse alcohol become depressed. They are also at greater risk of suicide.

Medication

Prescribed medications can cause mental health difficulties among older people. A 2001 Department of Health survey found that 79% of older people take prescribed medicines. Many older people take four or more medications at the same time. There are risks associated with taking multiple medications, including confusion.

More detailed information about medication and mental health problems can be found at the following sites:

Other mental health problems

There are a number of rarer mental health problems that affect older people, including delirium, anxiety and late-onset schizophrenia. The prevalence, nature, and course of these disorders are different in older people, as are the treatments that may be offered.

Capacity and older people with mental illness

People with dementia or severe mental illness may have difficulty in making and communicating decisions. Very few people are unable to be involved in making choices at all but some may have partial or fluctuating mental capacity and may need help with c
ommunication. Different approaches are also required to engage a person with dementia. They often need longer to make decisions, may need an advocate to speak on their behalf and their mental functioning may also vary by day, and time of day. Family members or carers are often useful sources of information but it is important to take account of the views of the person with dementia alongside those of their carer.

Help for carers

Caring for an older person with mental health problems can be very stressful, time consuming and emotionally and physically challenging. Caring for an older person with dementia is associated with higher levels of stress, with a third of carers suffering from depression.

The keys to successful dating for men

Dating is probably one of the most exciting yet daunting adventures any single individual might ever encounter. Traditional datingmeeting up, going out and eating outwith somebody you are interested with can be a challenge as well as a learning experience for everyone.

More than the women, men feel more pressured when going out on a date because they are expected to do almost everything to make the date a success. Since they are the ones who will carry out most of the so-called “dating tasks” here are some tips that can help men go through with the exciting process of dating the girl they are interested with.

BARING THE BASIC DATING ESSENTIALS

Dating can be a daunting task especially for those men who haven’t dated for a long time, for those who haven’t been successful with women, and even for those guys who are so used to dating without knowing the basic rules in playing the game.

Remember, people need conform the rules whether they like it or not. In the case of dating, there are simple rules that need to be followed to ensure success for both parties.

1.Ensure cleanliness by keeping on eye on your hygiene and style. The worst thing any man can do is to turn up on a date smelling, unshaven, and looking dirty so the first thing you should do is to take a bath, brush your teeth, and shave those stubborn stubbles. Men who do not know how to maintain hygiene are no-nos for the more hygienic sex. So it pays to spray on some decent cologne and gargle before you meet up with your date.

2.Dress up to look your best. Looking your best when you go out on a date gives the idea that you have prepared for the special occasion even if it’s only a first date. If you don’t have enough dough to buy new shoes or clothes, at least try to wear those decent ones to impress your date.

3.Be on time. The first impression of women is usually based on how much men value their time. If you ask a woman on a date, make sure that you can turn up on time because not doing so will give her the impression that you don’t value your word. If you don’t want your date to think you are unreliable, try be early or at least on time when going out on a date.

4.Before asking someone out, make sure you have a job to flaunt. Women always find security in men you are secured themselves. Although financial stability is too early to discuss, your current job will give her an idea if you can manage dating her for a long time. Men who have jobs give women the impression that they are ambitious and they have the will to go on top.

5.Do all the necessary preparations. Preparing for things you can say during the date will ensure the easy flow of conversation all throughout. Getting your knowledge levels up and sharing it with your date will definitely make her date interested. The safest topic to discuss includes current events so make sure you watch the news or read quality broadsheets.

6.Know when to stop talking and start listening. Opening up topics for a conversation will pave the way for an interesting intellectual stimulation but you must know when the ice has been broken. After you have given your thoughts on a certain topic, ask her what she thinks and listen to her intently.

7.Issues on bills. The general rule in dating is that whoever asks for that date should pay for it. Since you are the one who asked for and you are the man, then, by all means, you should pay the bill. But if the idea of your paying for the entire bill does not sit well to the woman you’re dating and she insists paying for her own, make a compromise. Suggest that she pays the half and you’ll pay for the rest.

8.Being a gentleman pays. Simple things that show your gentleness like holding the door open for her, letting her walk through the door first, and pulling out a chair for her will definitely make an impact on her. Showering her compliments throughout the day will also make her think that you appreciate her efforts of looking good for the date.

9.Watch out for body language. After the date, watch out for her body language before attempting to kiss her goodnight or before trying to seduce her to jump into your bed. Sex on first date is not a good thing unless she wants to. Lastly, don’t tell her that you’ll call her if you don’t have plans of doing so.

10.If you are serious in the woman you’re dating, start learning how to live a healthy life. Smoking and drinking only show irresponsibility and carelessness because you are not taking care of your health.

Obesity is a growing problem in our country and it seems that the smarter we get and the more technological and scientific advances we make, the worse the problem becomes. This doesn’t make a lot of sense, does it?

What is being done to prevent obesity? Clearly not enough. More than 65% of Americans are now considered overweight or obese. Many diseases that are leading killers in our society are preventable. That is correct. I am talking about diseases such as heart disease, diabetes, and even certain types of cancer. The medical community has convinced the general public that treatments for these diseases are readily available instead of focusing on the prevention of them. Why? Because these treatments are what put money into the healthcare system, not the prevention of the disease itself.

One of the most startling statistics of all – 70% of all cancers are lifestyle related. They are not genetic or caused by environmental factors, they are lifestyle related which means if we would make changes to our lifestyles, the development of the cancer could be prevented. Read on to determine ways that you can make changes and prevent some life threatening illnesses as well as lower your health care costs!

PREVENTION AND HEALTHY HABITS

The hardest step to take is the first one. However, if you set a goal of creating healthier habits for you and your family, just like a goal of painting your family room, you will get it done. If you never plan for it, you will never make the changes. Goal setting is the first step to healthier habits. Healthier habits are the first step to prevention and prevention is the first step to saving health care dollars. Most of us are investing in some sort of a retirement fund. We think of places we want to go, things we want to do and things we want to see when we retire. We dream of the things we don’t have time for now. However, if we don’t take the steps to prevent obesity, heart disease, diabetes, cancer and a host of other health issues, our retirement funds will end up being spent on medication and health care instead of traveling and enjoying life’s golden years.

Here are some keys that you can incorporate into your lifestyle starting today to make changes that can lengthen your life, improve the quality and keep some healthcare dollars in your pocket.

-Get Started Today. Hockey legend Wayne Gretzkey said that in his early years a coach once made a great impression by sharing these words of wisdom: “You miss 100% of the shots you never take”. This is so true and applies to just about any situation in life, including creating healthier habits. If you never make the choice to start, you will never incorporate the healthy habits. All it takes is making the choice and moving ahead one step at a time.

– Plan. It is that simple. We have all heard the old saying “failing to plan is planning to fail” and that applies here as well. You must have a plan of what you intend to do, how you want to incorporate healthier choices and then simply follow the plan.

– Know where you are. Get a benchmark of how healthy you are right now. In order to determine the progress you make, you need to know where you are right now.

– Know where you are going. Use a journal to track your progress. This will help you stay on track and on the days you feel like you aren’t making any progress, you can look back at the last 30 (60 or 90) days and see how far you have come.

– Be Patient. Change takes time and seeing progress is going to take time as well. Chances are you didn’t see the changes happening to your body overnight and it will take time to see the positive ones as well.

– Keep it fun! Trying to follow a plan that is too strict or regimented is a sure fire way to fail. Keep a fun attitude, involve family and friends and make your new habits something that you look forward to.

– Expect obstacles. Just as knowing where road construction is happening can get you to your destination more quickly, knowing that obstacles are going to appear on your path to creating healthier habits will help you plan for them and get back on the path to your goal faster. Holidays, birthdays, celebrations, parties, emotional situations such as death, divorce or loss of a job are all things that can get us off track. As long as you expect some obstacles and plan for them, you will be better equipped to handle them and move on.

– Sleep. Sleep is underestimated in the role it plays in good health. We think that staying up an extra hour or two to complete a task is the best way to be productive. In fact, if we would “hit the hay” for some good rest we would wake up in a much more productive state and not only get the tasks from the night before completed but be in a better frame of mind for today’s tasks as well. Studies show that we are more likely to make poor eating choices or overeat when we are tired as well.

– Get support from friends and family. Engaging your network of friends and family is a great way to ensure your success. And, you might help them create some healthy habits along the way to add years to their life and life to their years! Accountability goes a long way in staying on track and creating a healthy lifestyle.

– Consult your doctor. Anytime you are planning to start a new eating/exercise plan it is a good idea to let your doctor in on your plan and your goals. Your doctor can help keep you on track and monitor your progress. Doctors can also help you monitor things that you can’t see or monitor on your own such as cholesterol and sugar levels.

– Exercise! In addition to eating better, make an effort to move your body for 30-60 minutes three to five days a week. This is the best medicine available.

FINAL WORD

Visualize how the world would be if everyone adopted healthier habits. Think about the 70% of those cancers that are lifestyle related. Think about the obesity problem that would no longer be an issue. Think about the average size of a women going from 14 to 8, and men going from a 44 inch waist to a 38 inch waist. Diabetes and heart disease would no longer be the killers that they are today.

Each person has the power to make the changes and prevent these terrible diseases before they start. You have a plan, you know what to do. Find some good resources to help you and keep you accountable. You are well on your way and you can make it happen!

Cosmetic companies seem to think that men’s skincare products can be just like womenâ??s, as long as they have a â??manlyâ? fragrance.  There are some basic differences between a manâ??s face and a womanâ??s.  These differences need to be taken into consideration when creating men anti-aging skincare products.  Otherwise, they just wonâ??t be effective and could eventually make your skin look worse.

Even if you are a young man, you want to use men’s skincare solutions that delay the signs of aging.  Itâ??s just the safest and healthiest thing that you can do, as long as you know which ingredients to look for and which to avoid.  If you keep reading, thatâ??s what youâ??ll learn.

Just for Men Anti-aging Skincare Ingredients:

I call them â??just for men anti-aging skincare ingredientsâ?, because they address the issues of redness and inflammation.  Those are two problems that most guys have, particularly those that shave.  If youâ??re a young man, you might not â??seeâ? it, but it is a problem.

Not only does chronic inflammation, which is largely due to shaving, negatively affect your appearance, it can also affect the skinâ??s long-term health.  Researchers now believe that chronic inflammation plays a major role in the development of cancerous cells.

So, men’s skincare creams that contain natural anti-inflammatories may also help prevent skin cancer.  If you also strive to use cleansers and shaving lubricants that contain safe and natural ingredients, then youâ??ll look better today and in the future.

Using a just for men anti-aging skincare cream every day, after you shave, instead of the alcohol-based aftershaves that most guys use, is an important step.  The ingredients to look for include witch hazel and capuacu butter.

Witch hazel was once the most popular solution for aftershaves, but petroleum-based alcohols are cheaper and basically took over the market.  Witch hazel is a plant-derived astringent that has natural antibacterial and antioxidant activity.  It has been recommended for psoriasis, eczema, blisters, cracked skin, insect bites, poison ivy and cold sores.

Capuacu butter comes from a fruit, native to South America.  It helps to heal razor and sunburns, contains essential fatty acids that are needed to replenish the skinâ??s moisture content.

Ingredients that Men’s Skincare Products Should Not Contain:

The biggest problem with petroleum based alcohols is that they strip the skin of its natural moisture, causing excessive dryness and making the skinâ??s cells more easily damaged.  They also increase redness and irritation.  Plant-based alcohols are a better choice, but most companies donâ??t use them, because they cost more.

You donâ??t need or want artificial preservatives in a men anti-aging skincare cream.  Natural vitamin E is an effective preservative and an important antioxidant that prevents the appearance of age spots and reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.  Again, companies donâ??t use it, because it costs more than artificial preservatives.  Added fragrances are also unnecessary and a common cause of allergic reactions.

There is a new line of men’s skincare creams that are safe and effective.  Thatâ??s what you need to look for. Visit my website today to learn more about the natural substances that are designed to keep men’s skin looking healthy and young.

The importance of an effective skin care cannot be undermined for either men or women. It plays a huge role in our success and happiness. This article shall guide you on what are the building blocks of the best skin care for men.

Men skin care issues generally revolve around anti aging and how to reverse the signs of aging. The key to both of these lies in countering the causes of skin aging right at the roots.

The best skin care for men should include these 3 essential things –

– natural moisturizers to keep the skin well hydrated and to make up for the natural moisture that gets lost during the course of the day.
– emollients to soften the skin and soothe inflammation and irritation.
– natural antioxidants to counter free radical damage.

The major cause of skin aging symptoms to appear is the slowdown in the natural production of collagen and elastin in the body. These are the youth giving skin proteins that help to keep the skin firm, pliant, supple and elastic.

And as we age through our twenties and early thirties, the body gradually produces less of these vital structural proteins. This is what gives us wrinkles, saggy skin, fine lines, old age spots and dark uneven skin complexion.

Our skin begins to lose around 1.5% of collagen every year from the time we enter the early thirties. And it’s clear that we do not have to lose 100% of our collagen for wrinkles and fine lines to show up.

The best skin care for men should consist of cutting edge natural ingredients like Cynergy TK. It is unique in its role as a skin rejuvenator as it enhances the natural production of collagen and elastin by the body itself. This helps the skin to repair and renew itself just like it did in its younger days!

With a greater production of collagen and elastin, the skin becomes firmer and more elastic. Wrinkles and fine lines start to disappear naturally and you feel as if the young days are back again!

Cynergy TK significantly improves the skin’s moisture retention and elasticity. Clinical trials on human volunteers revealed that moisture retention improved by 18% and elasticity improved by 42% in a period of 18 days. This way it works as an amazing skin moisturizer in the best skin care for men.

It also soothes inflammation and irritation naturally as it is rich in functional keratin, which is one of the primary structural skin proteins.

Cynergy TK is rich in enzymatic antioxidants which are much more superior in their action on free radical damage as compared to general antioxidants. While the general antioxidants lose one unit for each free radical that they neutralize, in the case of Cynergy TK, just one unit of enzymatic antioxidant unit is enough to neutralize millions of free radicals!

Do you look older than you actually are? Do you want to attract the attention of a younger woman, but are worried of the puffy eye bags that make you look much older? Is you skin dry and rough? The right men skin care products are what you need to salvage yourself out of this situation.

And this article will show you exactly how to find them. After reading this article, you will easily figure it out how to re-achieve the young, attractive and healthy skin that you had in your youth days.

There are many ways in which a man’s skin is different than a woman’s like –

1) Firstly, men’s skin has a tendency to become swollen and red more frequently and easily. Skin inflammation is more common in men than in women.

2) Secondly, men are also more easily prone to dark circles and puffy bags beneath the eyes. This is because they produce more prostaglandin E2. Thus, when you look for men skin care products, look out for such natural ingredients that specifically cater to these two issues.

Cynergy TK is a natural ingredient that has been pioneered in New Zealand. It is very effective for its role in natural skin rejuvenation and anti aging. It blocks the production of Prostaglandin E2.

The unique role that it plays in anti aging is that it enhances the natural production of the two vital skin proteins called collagen and elastin in our body. These are the two youth giving proteins that give us a firm, supple, pliant and elastic skin.

As we age, the production of these proteins slows down in our body, which causes wrinkles, fine lines, saggy skin and age spots. So, a higher natural production of collagen and elastin gives us permanent freedom from all signs of skin aging – it prevents further skin aging and also reverses all effects of aging that have already taken place.

Although, the skin composition of men and women differ in some ways, they also consist of a lot of similarities. Like –

1) They are both affected similarly by harmful chemicals found in skin care products. A lot of hazardous chemical substances such as alcohols, parabens, dioxanes, mineral oils and fragrances are used a lot in men skin care products.

These cause widespread harm to skin and overall health in the form of skin allergies, irritation, redness, itching and inflammation. Parabens cause skin cancer! Fragrances cause anxiety, depression, hormonal disturbances and disruptions in functioning of central nervous system.

Alcohols cause excessive skin dryness and photosensitivity. Mineral oils cause acne eruptions, allergies and destroy the skin’s natural moisture balance. You should avoid these chemicals in all natural skin products for men that you purchase.

2) Another important similarity in the skin types of both men and women is that they both need vital nutrients like vitamins, minerals, calcium and antioxidants. This helps the skin to remain healthy and vibrant. It becomes capable to repair broken cells and sustain its normal functions and counter the damage caused by free radical damage.

An amazing natural ingredient in this regard is Phytessence Wakame. It is an extract of a special type of Japanese sea kelp. It is one of the best kept anti aging and skin rejuvenation secrets of Japan. It is rich in minerals, vitamins, antioxidants and calcium (its calcium content is 15 times greater than milk).

It does an amazing job in improving skin moisture retention and elasticity. It is also eaten as a food by the Japanese people. It helps in maintaining the balance of hyaluronic acid in the body and preserve youth and vitality. It gives creamy, smooth and radiant skin naturally.

Visit my website to find out more of such amazing natural ingredients that you should look out for in the best men skin care products. This would help you achieve a young, attractive and naturally glowing skin and make you much more interesting for the opposite sex.

The emergence of new and contradicting studies in the fields of Nutrition and Health each day has made it very difficult for one to decide what to believe and what not to.However, one fact that independent studies cannot deny is that with the increase in obesity and excess body fat come several associated health risks.

Studies have concluded that anyone who is overweight is potentially at a higher risk of suffering from a number of health problems such as high blood pressure, various heart ailments, Diabetes, Colon Cancer, gallstones Etc.

But the debate continues as to how much one would consider as being ‘Considerably Overweight’?

Although there is no fixed ideal weight for any given person there are certain factors that do provide an accurately healthy range .One such measurement is that of a BMI (Body Mass Index)which is calculated by dividing ones weight in Kilograms by ones height squared(meters).A rough classification for a BMI result is as follows :-

Under 18.5 = Underweight

18.5 – 24.99 = Normal Weight

25 – 29.99 = Overweight

30 – 34.99 = Obese (Class 1)

35 – 39.99 = Obese (Class 2)

40 and above = Extreme Obesity

For people who have a lower BMI, health risks are minimal but one cannot rule out genetic and environmental factors that can cause health problems. However, for those with a BMI of 25 and above, conclusive studies have proven that health risks are infinitely greater.

People who suffer from ‘Abnormal Obesity’ have large fat deposits around the stomach and abdomen and are prone to suffering from Cardiovascular diseases and Insulin resistance syndrome. For women to fall under this category their waist circumference should be 35 inches or more whereas for men it is 40 inches and above.Other risks associated with this health risk are high blood pressure and cholesterol.

Excessive body fat is particularly harmful as leads to the narrowing and clogging of the arteries which can eventually cause a stroke and/or hypertension.

For an average person, rapid weight gain from 10-20 pounds increases the odds of developing Type 2 Diabetes.Although genetic factors should be taken into account the fact of the matter is that an individual who has had rapid weight gain is at double the risk of developing Type 2 Diabetes than a person who has not had any weight gain when other factors are held constant.

Studies have also discovered a direct correlation between high BMI levels and the degree of liver damage. Liver Disease can be caused by insulin resistance which is more likely to be found among those who are obese.

A rapid rise in BMI or obesity can also lead to the formation of gallstones and sleep apnea(an interruption of breathing during sleep).

In short, even though there are many genetic and environmental factors it has been found that excessive body fat is a major factor responsible for health issues.Nowadays, being obese is no longer an issue of simply being acceptable it has become a major health risk that people should be aware of.

With the statistics showing that divorce is at an all time high the level of support for divorcees has skyrocketed to help people get through this very difficult time in their lives and find a way to move on. Unfortunately that level of support is extremely skewed to help women, not men dealing with divorce! So with divorce support for men so low what does a man after divorce do? OR perhaps more importantly what should they NOT do!

The first problem most guys face is coping with the reality of being a divorcee. This can sometimes take some time to sink in and before the realization settles men can go through a wide range of emotions and actions. Many can refuse to believe they are really divorced, in their hearts they are still married even if they do not feel in love and others feel in love but feel separated. To cope with these things men will usually do one of two things: Nothing or Everything! When they do nothing they can become deeply depressed and a recent statistic shows they are much more likely than the woman to commit suicide, whether this stems from the lack of support for men compared to women or just that men are more susceptible to these things is unclear but since men are usually creatures of action doing the opposite can be very detrimental to their mental health.

The opposite effect is that the man tries to cope with this new situation by doing as much as he can with his life so he does not have to focus on his emotions. A great focus on work or on socializing or some other activity to keep himself busy becomes the main goal in the mans life. While this can be better than the lethargy of depression men often do things they regret during this period such as; sleeping around to fill the void of intimacy, alcoholism, getting into fights, and of course not resolving their emotional conflict.

To compound these issues women are more likely to have a social network of friends they can rely on to help them emotionally whereas the man will not have the relationships with his friends to talk about such things and the man himself may not feel comfortable looking for help from other men even professionals.

So where is a divorced man suppose to go for help? There may be no perfect advice for men after divorce and while we can generalize on the character of males we are all different enough that we all need different solutions. The best advice I have heard however that man is is a natural problem solver, give a man the information and tools he needs to solve a problem and he will eventually build something that works. Divorce support for men may simply be giving a man as much easily accessed information so he can occupy himself with solving his own problems. Men dealing with divorce and separation may always be seen as lesser problem than the women but thanks to the internet it is much easier for men to access the help they need without the social stigma and embarrassment they might feel in real life.

Here we will look at womens sexual health and while much has been written on lack of male sex drive, many women lose their libido and here we are going to look at the key causes and how to reignite it naturally…

Let’s look at the physical causes first.

Lack of nitric oxide and poor blood circulation. This is the chemical which plays a vital role in dilating the blood vessels which allows stronger blood flow to genitals increasing sexual pleasure providing a satisfying orgasm. For peak sexual wellness you must have strong blood flow to the sexual organs and it’s also vital for overall well being.

Low testosterone is another cause. Although seen as male hormone it is also vital for women’s sexual health.

Another common cause is low levels of estrogen which plays a critical role in women’s sexuality. Low estrogen levels are associated with lack of sex drive, arousal, and issues which make intercourse painful.

Mind and Spirit

While physical problems can result in loss of libido there are mental issues which can sap sex drive.
Stress, Fatigue, anxiety and tiredness can all affect libido, making you feel not in the mood.

It’s important therefore to enhance mood and this comes from a brain which is nourished, receives well oxygenated blood, and has correct hormonal balance. When your spirit is filled with feelings of well being, you feel happier, you feel sensual, and you are in the mood for sex.

Let’s look at some herbs to lift libido and start with one which is known as the ultimate herb for women:

Dong Quai

Contains vitamins E, A and B12 and high in tannins. Medical research has identified at least six coumarin derivatives that exert antispasmodic and vasodilatory effects. The essential oil in dong quai contains Ligustilide, butylphthalide, Ferulic acid and various polysaccharides. These elements can help reduce blood clotting and relax peripheral blood vessels.

Here are some of the ways it helps libido

”    Enhances the effects of ovarian and testicular hormones

”    Helps regulating blood sugar levels and lowers blood pressure

”    Relieves insomnia

”    Brings relief from symptoms of PMS, migraine headaches, abdominal pain and arthritis

”    Helps resume normal menstruation after using birth control pills

”    Acts as a mild sedative to relive both stress and anxiety

”    Strengthens internal reproductive organs, helps with endometriosis and internal bleeding or bruising

”    Relieves menopausal conditions like vaginal dryness and hot flushes

This herb is simply a great one for women to take and acts as a base to build on – now let’s add in some other powerful herbs to compliment it.

For women and men skin care products should cover three basic principles; prevention, protection and individualized care.  Natural skin care for men can cover all of these concepts.  In fact, natural compounds and extracts are the best ingredients for the skinâ??s health.

Below, we briefly cover what to look for in men skin care products.  But, remember that skincare, like any other kind of healthcare, is a long subject and you can never have too much information.  Knowledge is the key to natural skin care for men.  This should be just enough to get you started down the road to healthier, better looking skin.

Prevention Principle

To prevent future problems, such as disease, age spots, blemishes and wrinkles, there are several things that we must do.  First, there are some things to avoid.  Overexposure to the sun and smoking do more damage than just about anything else.  But, some of the common ingredients found in women and men skin care products can also do damage.

You should always avoid harmful substances, such as irritants, allergens, toxins and carcinogens.  There is a long list of chemical ingredients that fall into those categories, so Iâ??ll only mention the most common ones; perfumes, preservatives and mineral oils.

Perfumes and preservatives are the two most common allergens, but many are toxic and some are known carcinogens.  Mineral oil and its derivatives include petrolatum, petroleum jelly, paraffin, liquid paraffin and paraffin wax.  If you look at many some so-called natural skin care for men, you are likely to see at least one of those ingredients.

The only preservative that should be included in women or men skin care products is natural vitamin E, but most companies use parabens.  If a parabens or fragrance is listed as an ingredient, donâ??t buy it.

Mineral oils found in men skin care products do more harm than good.  They inhibit skin regeneration, clog pores and lead to excessive dryness.

Protection Principles

In order to protect the deepest of the skinâ??s layers from damage, premature aging and disease, you need moisture, nutrients and protection from the sun.  Natural skin care for men should include all of these things, but Iâ??m not talking using sunscreen on a daily basis.  That can lead to vitamin D deficiencies.

If you will spend more than 15 minutes in direct sunlight on a given day, you should use a zinc oxide sun block.  Titanium dioxide has recently been listed as a possible carcinogen, but it is commonly found in natural skin care for men and women, because it is a naturally occurring substance.  To protect from the sun, men skin care products should include vitamin B-5 and coenzyme Q10.

For moisture, the best choices are vitamin E, essential fatty acids, grape seed oil and Babassu wax.  You can see that the use of these protective and moisturizing ingredients also supply nutrients.

Individualized Care Principle

If you have wrinkles, stretch marks, acne, psoriasis, eczema, excessive dryness, dermatitis or another condition, then you may need specific ingredients.  For example, the best natural skin care for men with dermatitis is a protein peptide, such as â??Functional Keratinâ?.  Thatâ??s a brand name.  Other forms of keratin are not as effective.

If you shop carefully and do a little research about the ingredients in a product, you will see that men skin care products can address all of the issues mentioned here, naturally.

1. Financial Stability – Middle of the Road

Maintaining a middle class to upper class status is important in the journey to a blissful life. The middle and upper classes have opportunities to avoid issues that otherwise arise in lower class households.

Income

Having a little more money then what you need to live a comfortable simple life is as essential as knowing whether you are living inside or outside of your financial means.

Savings and Investments

Financial stability is not obtainable unless you have a respectable amount of savings and investments. On average experts suggest saving 10% or more of your income for retirement while still having a comfortable amount in savings for emergencies and unforeseen costs that may arise.

College Education

Over the course of a lifetime, a graduate of a two-years college earn about $275,000 more than someone with only a high school diploma. The greater earning potential you have the greater likelihood you will be able to own, save and invest.

Assets

Financial security is vastly influenced by the reserves you set aside for hard times. While this is more of an addition to the criterion for middle class status, it does help financial stabilize your life.

Limited Debt

The increase of credit card debt in the US is growing at alarming rates. As long as you are in severe to mild debt, financial freedom is at a distance.

Health Insurance

Unexpected injuries or illnesses can destroy your family’s financial future. These sudden medical bills are a growing reason for the unprecedented levels of credit card debt in the US.

Pitfalls of Lower

The above requirements for financial stability are far less likely to be obtained by those in the lower income class range, but are not entirely out of reach. Those with lower class income simple need to work smarter and structure their earning and needs more efficiently.

2. Health and Wellbeing

Your health and the health of your loved ones have an enormous impact in your life. Whether the health problems are mental health related or physical, such hindrances in the quality of your life can decimate your chances at finding a true state of bliss.

See Your Physician

The average healthy American should regularly see a doctor to screen for diseases, assess risks of future medical problems, encourage a healthy lifestyle, update vaccinations and maintain a relationship with a doctor in the event of an illness.

Prevention

Men should perform a monthly testicular self-exam and women should perform a monthly breast exam. Women should also have a yearly pelvic exam and Pap smear to check for cervical cancer and other disorders.

Mental Illness

Even if you suffer from the slightest form of depression, you need to take action and take control of your life by treating your mind. Whether you choose psychological counseling, group therapy or psychiatric treatment for you mental illness this treatment is very important in creating a blissful future for yourself. You can not admit stability in your life unless there is stability in your mind.

Physical Illness

While not all physical illnesses are treatable, many illnesses are very treatable. If you experience any abnormalities with your health, seek a physician immediately. Whether you find a lump during your monthly exam, have a sharp pain in your chest or have a significant decrease in appetite, any and all sudden changes in your health and body should be assumed as a possible health risk factor.

3. A Career to Live for

Some surveys reveal that nearly ninety percent of Americans hate their jobs. Since the average person works eight hours a day, this equates to one-third of these Americans lives spent in misery. Having a career you love, are passionate about and that inspires you is crucial in having a blissful life. Are there ways to make your job less stressful by taking the initiative to problem solve issues in your department that could result in a more organized and balanced atmosphere? Can you talk other employees into standing up for your solutions to fortify your argument for change? If you can not change where you work, perhaps you can change how you work. Companies thrive on efficiency; if you can provide solutions to increase efficiency you could enable change in your working atmosphere. Great lives are sustained by great ideas.

Career Income Limitations

If you have found yourself in a career that just doesn’t pay enough there are solutions out there to still allow you a change at a blissful life. If you make under $40,000 as a single person and your job does not offer good benefits, perhaps it is time to start shopping for a better deal. Even if you will earn the same amount per year with another company, but that company has far better benefits then you currently receive, then you are coming out ahead. Company benefit packages vary company to company. Compare you current company benefits with that of its competitors.

The Right Reasons

Some choose a profession because a parent was successful in that field. Some choose a profession because of the expected earnings associated with that field. These are the most common reasons young people base their career choice on, and these reasons will almost always result in a occupation they will loath later in life. The career necessity in creating a blissful life can be obtained by choosing a career which you can see yourself making a difference. Whether this difference is through helping others improve their lives or helping a company extend their reach to the consumer, having and endless stream of obtainable goals, a genuine passion and a strong sense of purpose are the qualities that make a career life-sustaining.

4. Avocation

Whether you engage in recreational activities or hobbies alone or with your children, pets, significant other, friends or family, activities you enjoy external to your work are essential for a blissful life. While avocations can be related to your career, it is best to choose side-projects not associated with your work as this can lead to your hobbies feeling like more of a chore then a choice.

5. Love – Sweet and Simple

Bliss and love go hand in hand, but it is not one form of love you need to seek and obtain in life to be blissful, but rather several. Bliss is not a feeling that is obtainable alone; though contentment is a possibility for those who are not blessed with a wide rang of love. While conditional love is acceptable for a blissful life, unconditional love is more majestic and will bring along with it a stronger sense of stability and completion.

Significant Other

A significant other can be a spouse or an individual in which you are in a committed and loving relationship. For those who are married, marriage is complex and demands a great deal of care and maintenance. For a successful marriage you both need to be aware of each others needs and the importance of those needs. Just because certain needs are not important to you, does not mean they are not substantially important to your spouse. To find mutually acceptable solutions first you have to know what problems are being experienced and the root of those problems. Spending time is essential to every marriage. With out spending a good amount of time with your spouse you can not sufficiently meet their emotional needs or have regular open and honest conversations.

Non-marital committed relationships function nearly identical to marriages. You both need to meet each others emotional needs, regularly have open and honest communications, protect each others feeling and spend quality time together.

Children

Children are a blessing and evoke a form of love that has no rival. To have a little being that unconditionally loves you, cherishes you, depends on you and turns to you for protection and guidance creates a sense of purp
ose that warms your heart for a lifetime. If you do not currently have a loving relationship with your children due to past events and disputes, reslving these disputes should be a priority in your life.

Pets

If your children are your world, a family pet may not be a necessity for a blissful life. If you grew up with pets or have a strong connection with animals there may always be a void in your heart, even after you have children, for a little friend who will always need your care. In the case of those who have a profound connection with their pets, who see their pets as though they are their children, there may be no necessity for children during the lifespan of the pet.

Family

Having a loving relationship with your family is very important for a blissful life especially with parents. Regardless of your history with your parents, a bond was formed that can never be broken. Because of this bond, if you are not close to your parents or are not on good terms, there will always be a void within your being demanding fulfillment. Siblings are also very important when it comes to your requirement for love. Sibling rivalry is common amongst almost all households, but as you grow older and wiser, these are the times to forgive childish actions and get to know each other for the people you are today.

Friends

It goes with out saying that our friends are our emotional foundation throughout our lives. Without our friends we could never truly know ourselves. An individual should have at least one best friend and several very good friends who all reflect your interests in some form or another.

Self

To love thyself, is to look into the mirror, look into your mind and look into your soul and know you are the best “you” that you can be. You should never expect someone to love you if you do not love yourself. While looking at yourself you will see aspects about yourself you may not like, and some of these you can not change. Take comfort in the things you can not change for they are your identity. These unchangeable aspects are your history, they tell your story, good or bad.

6. Faith

Faith can mean many things to many people. No matter what you have faith in, God, karma, destiny, universal law, science and so forth, faith is vital in achieving the requirements listed throughout this article. With out faith in something, or at least faith in you, such goals are unobtainable. Faith if the foundation of life, it is what you know, what you believe and what you have considered.

Many would agree that women spend a huge portion of their time in making sure that men would find them attractive and desirable. In fact, even when women are already married, they still strive to look perfect for their man.

But it is quite the opposite when it comes to men who rarely even try to find out what characteristics do women like in them. If you are serious about making your girl happy or if you still haven’t found a woman to call your own, then there might be something wrong with how you present yourself and what you do.

In order to know what women find desirable in men, it may be a good idea to know what experts have to say about the issue. Below are the characteristics of men that women find irresistible and endearing:

Good Sense Of Humor

Have you ever wondered why famous comedians, who may not look hot or handsome, seem to date even the most gorgeous women in Hollywood? The answer to this is women usually enjoy the company of men who make them laugh. Since a woman’s life is already full of stress and problems, they want someone who could help them forget their woes and make them feel comfortable. If the best way to a man’s heart is through his stomach, then the best way to a woman’s heart is by making her laugh.

Certain Level Of Achievement

Success is another magnet that seems to attract women to men. If you are successful in your own field, then surely you will find women throwing themselves on to you. Maybe the reason behind this is that women expect their men to be the one to pay for dinner and to spoil them rotten. Also, the status of a woman can sometimes be measured by who she is dating. In order to be simply irresistible to women, you better put your act together and start striving for success.

A Bit Of Self-confidence

Aside from success (and money), women also want their men to be confident about themselves. They want a person who can easily express himself no matter who they are with. However, be careful not be arrogant because women abhor men who tell lies just in order to look better or appear richer and more successful.

Keep A Little Mystery

Men and women alike absolutely go gaga with a person who is mysterious. A little mystery and intrigue could help make you more interesting to other people.Round And Full ButtocksIf men look for full and perky breasts, women look for hard and big butt in men. Since only few men have shapely buttocks, it seems that women desire men who have this characteristic to become the envy of their girl friends. The best way to have a shapely behind is through exercise.

Flat Abs

Again, women are hard to please. Since flat abs is one of the most difficult things to achieve, women want their men to posses this physical trait. Besides, having flat abs shows that a man is well-disciplined and interested in his health. If you find it difficult to burn fat and achieve a rippled abdomen, you may want to get a little help from products like Dermacut. For more details of how this fat-pocket eliminator can help you, just log on to http://www.dermacut.com/.

In this article I will give you some important information on yeast infection in men, and, how to cure yeast infection in men in as little as 12 hours. First you should know that yeast infection in men is a serious issue, and because it doesn’t always appear as clear symptoms in men, a lot of men are passing it on to their sexual partners whithout knowing it. Yeast infection in men can appear in, or, on any part of your body, not just your penis.

Candida Albicans is the cause of your yeast infection. It’s a natural fungus (yeast) that occurs in our bodies without any dramas. Your yeast infection only occurs when the Candida “overgrows” out of control.

This can be set-off by; diabetes, lowered immune levels, over-use of antibiotics and / or steroids, drugs, sex, stress, poor diet, and so on. Even you wearing sweaty / damp underwear, or, sports wear.

Main signs of penile yeast infection in men are; a red / sore head, dry cracked skin, crazy itching, pain during sex, impotence, pain when peeing, and, a smelly discharge.

Oral yeast infection in men could show up as white / yellowish raised spots on your tongue and mucous membranes and bad breath. Sometimes (especially if you wear dentures) you will get red spots on your lips.

Other yeast infection symptoms you could have are; bad headaches, continual tiredness, irritability, memory loss, sore / swollen joints, dizziness, diarrhea, constipation, indigestion and bloating.

It’s also possible for yeast infection in men to be present without showing any symptoms at all. This can be particularly worrying, because it will eventually appear, but, perhaps in a more serious form, and, much harder to iradicate.

You would normally be treated by drug-based therapies through prescription or over-the-counter. Perhaps this is what you have been doing for your yeast infection so far. And normally, you apply the medication directly to the affected area(s). Sometimes you might get pills, or, an injection if the infection is particularly severe.

This approach can work well in most men, but many men find that although the infection seems to clear it comes back again. Some men even have recurring infections throughout their lives. This is particularly bad where you have a sexual partner to whom you will transfer the infection. Which is why yeast infection in men has to be taken very seriously.

The two main reasons for recurring yeast infection are that; the Candida gets resistant to the drugs, and, locally applied medication may only treat the symptoms and not the real cause of the yeast infection.

An obvious way around this would be for you to use a completely natural approach that is 100% drug-free. Natural yeast infection remedies have no side effects and have the benefit of improving your overall health and energy levels.

Also, you don’t have to be embarrassed about buying yeast infection products over the counter, and, because you aren’t continually buying drug-based medication, it should be much cheaper.

This is exactly what very many men (and women) have discovered. They have successfully turned to an easy-to-follow natural treatment regime that has permanently cured their yeast infection, fast. In fact many have reported in 12 hours. Now that’s fast!

To find out what these guy’s know that you don’t, and, to get rid of your yeast infection fast and permanently, go here http://yeast-infection-men.blogspot.com and start getting relief in as little as 12 hours.

It’s finally happened! – A powerful new anti wrinkle cream for men recently came onto the market that actually gets to the root of wrinkle prevention and reduction issues.

Over the years men have been a bit left out in the cold when it comes to men’s wrinkle cream. Wrinkles on a mans face were in the past regarded as a sign of masculinity, so not much emphasis was placed on men’s skin care products.

However, things have changed… these days younger men in particular want nice smooth skin as long as possible to give them a more youthful appearance. Gone are the days when a face full of wrinkles was regarded as a handsome look. Even older men with wrinkles are looking for a way of reducing their number and depth.

Now a small New Zealand company has come up with some new innovative skin care cream substances that prevent and reduce wrinkles by getting down to the root of the problem. Two substances collagen and elastin represent approximately 30% of your body’s proteins, and they are the main reason for your skin keeping its smoothness.

Unfortunately, as you get older these proteins deplete causing fine lines and wrinkles, this usually happens around your late thirties to mid forties. It makes sense that if you can maintain your levels of collagen and elastin your skin will not wrinkle as much. Now there is a simple cost effective way to accomplish this.

Most skin creams in this New Zealand company’s range of men’s wrinkle creams, contain substances that can penetrate through your top layer of skin (epidermis) deep down to where your collagen and elastin matrix exist.

One of the ingredients widely used is functional keratin a new nano form of natural keratin. Keratin is a protein with the capacity to stimulate collagen and elastin re-growth, thereby creating new skin cells. Naturally more skin cells results in thicker plumper skin, which in turn goes a long way to maintaining your skins condition and reduces existing wrinkles.

Another more commonly known substance used in most of their skin creams is CoQ10. However they have their own unique version called Nano-Lipobelle H-EQ10 a special nano-emulsion form of CoenzymeQ10. Once again this ingredient is capable of getting deep down to the collagen and elastin matrix to stimulate and produce more skin cells.

Naturally, you would expect an anti wrinkle cream for men to include moisturizing natural oils, emollients and antioxidant ingredients to hydrate, smooth and help protect sensitive skin. Many men are susceptible to razor rash, inflammation and dry skin irritation. Therefore, it’s important to use a men’s wrinkle cream that has ingredients that can help in these areas and also maintain the health of your skin.

At my website, I discuss more anti wrinkle cream for men ingredients and substances that you may be interested to learn about. Men should expect to look their best, now and in the future by incorporating a simple daily skin care routine.

About 44 million American men and women suffer from osteoporosis (severe bone loss) or osteopenia (mild bone loss), with women being affected twice as much as men. Each year, at least 1.5 million hip, vertebra, or wrist fractures occur in the United States because of osteoporosis. Although bone mass normally declines after age thirty-five, bone loss that is severe enough to cause fractures after only a minor trauma is a different problem.

Some of the risk factors for osteoporosis include: small body frame, underweight, Caucasian or Asian race, a sedentary lifestyle, cigarette smoking, excessive alcohol or caffeine intake, high intake of carbonated beverages, and having other family member with osteoporosis. Certain medical conditions such as diabetes, celiac disease, hyperthyroidism, rheumatoid arthritis, chronic obstructive lung disease, hyperadrenalism, and hyperparathyroidism are also associated with an increased risk of osteoporosis. There are also some medications that increase the rate of bone loss such as those prescribed for seizures and blood thinning, prednisone and other steroids, aluminum-containing antacids, and loop diuretics. By engaging in regular weight bearing exercise, avoiding excessive consumption of alcohol and caffeine, and quitting smoking, the rate of bone loss will be slowed. Eating adequate amounts of protein and supplementing with various vitamins and minerals also enhances bone health.

Calcium salts are absorbed about the same for most people, absorbing between thirty to forty percent of the administered dose. Those with low stomach acid, hypochlorhydria, should not use calcium carbonate because it is absorbed poorly without stomach acid. For many older people, calcium phosphate is preferable because phosphorus is necessary for normal bone formation. Calcium that is bound to phosphorus is the form in which calcium is stored in the bone, and has a much greater bone activity than other forms.

In order to promote strong bones, vitamin D is a necessary nutrient. Because vitamin D is produced when ultraviolet rays from the sun hit the skin, those people who stay out of the sun, wear sunscreen, or live in a northern latitude are at an increased risk of vitamin D deficiency. Aging also decreases a person’s ability to produce vitamin D in the skin. Supplementation with 700-800 IU of vitamin D per day has been proven to decrease the number of hip fractures by 26%. However, 400 IU per day was ineffective. In addition to improving bone health, vitamin D improves nerve and muscle function in older people, which reduces their risk of falling down. 800 IU of vitamin D per day in elderly women has shown to decrease the number of falls by about 50%. The “safe upper limit,” as determined by The Food and Nutrition Board of the Institute of Medicine is 4,000 IU per day. However, you most likely don’t need nearly this much to help bone issues.

Because bone is a living tissue that is constantly remodeling itself and engaging in many biological functions, it has a wide range of nutritional needs. Not getting enough of one or more of the important micronutrients needed is an important contributing factor to osteoporosis. In addition to supplementing with calcium and vitamin D, magnesium, zinc, copper, manganese, vitamin K, boron, strontium, silicon, folic acid, vitamin B6, vitamin B12, phosphorus, and vitamin C are all shown to have a vital role in bone health. Calcium is a component of the mineral crystals that makes up the bone. Vitamin D enhances calcium absorption and prevents falls by improving nerve and muscle function. Magnesium is important in bone mineralization, which is similar to zinc. However, zinc also increases bone loss. Copper also promotes bone mineralization and decreases bone loss. Manganese plays a vital role in the creation of the connective-tissue components of the bone. Boron supports the creation of bone-protecting hormones such as estrogen, testosterone, and DHEA. Silicon has a vital role in the synthesis of connective-tissue components in the bone. Deficiency of silicon has been associated with bone abnormalities. B vitamins, including folic acid, vitamin B6, and vitamin B12, have been shown to lower blood levels of homocysteine. A high level of homocysteine concentration is a very big risk factor for fractures in elderly people. Strontium is a trace mineral that is incorporated into bone and increases bone strength. It stimulates bone formation and inhibits bone breakdown. Vitamin K is best known for its effect on blood clotting. However, it is also required for the creation of osteocalcin, which is a unique protein that is found in bone and participates in the mineralization process. The amount of vitamin K needed for optimal bone health is greater than that amount needed to prevent bleeding. Deficiency in any of these nutrients is often associated with the development of osteoporosis.

There are two forms of vitamin K that are present in food, vitamin K1 and vitamin K2. Vitamin K1 is found in leafy green vegetables and some vegetable oils. Vitamin K2 is found in much smaller amounts in meat, cheese, eggs, and natto. Vitamin K2 can occur in more than one form, menaquinine-4 (MK-4), a licensed prescription drug in Japan, and menaquinone-7 (MK-7), which is extracted from natto. Research has shown that MK-7 is the ideal form of vitamin K. After oral administration, it was better absorber and lasted long in the body compared to MK-4 and vitamin K1. Even though both have shown the ability to prevent osteoporosis, a much lower dosage of MK-7 is required to obtain the beneficial effects. MK-7 has greater biological activity, bioavailability, and more potent effects on the bone.

Strontium is very important in building strong bones. After being studied by bone health researchers, it has been determined that lower doses are not only safer for long-term supplementation, but also have a greater impact on bone health than high doses. Too little of a dose and bone density will be impaired, but too much and health will be impaired. In this case, dosing needs to be just right for optimal impact. Therefore, keeping supplemental strontium at less than 6 mg per day is the best decision.

Nutrients work by different mechanisms than osteoporosis drugs, allowing them to have the ability to be taken with osteoporosis medications and enhance the beneficial effect of these medications. Because calcium and other minerals may interfere with the absorption of osteoporosis medications, they should be taken at least two hours before or two hours after taking osteoporosis medications. It is always best to also discuss the supplements with your healthcare practitioner to create the best health plan for you. The above supplements and other fine products can be found at your friendly internet health food store.

Health coaching is about making real, positive, and lasting change in the quality of our health. But when it comes to health coaching for women, there are additional factors that need to be considered. First, is the caregiver factor. Women are just naturally the caregiver, it comes down to those hormones. With that natural tendency, we will do for others, be it the kids, our spouse, or even our coworkers, before we do for ourselves. That tends to play out fine in our younger years, but as we enter middle age we need to be more proactive in our own health.

A second factor for women is guilt. Those caregiver hormones tend to trigger guilt if we spend time or resources on ourselves. Even something as simple as treating ourselves to a pedicure can trigger it. During or after your pedicure, have you ever had those inner voices telling you that your daughter needs you to do something for her and you should be doing it now? Or the guilt tells you that the money should really have been spent on something the kids need? As women, we hear those voices of guilt quite often. Sometimes those voices are right, most of the time they aren’t.

If we are going to be effective in creating a healthier lifestyle we need to put those care giving tendencies and the voices of guilt in their proper place. The fact is, if we don’t make the time to live a healthier life, nobody is going to do it for us.

The benefits of creating a healthier lifestyle for ourselves have a way of benefiting the entire family. For example, creating the goal of cooking more dinners at home rather than hitting the drive thru or ordering pizza not only means you are eating healthier and working towards your weight loss goals, but your family is eating healthier, too. Learning to manage your stress levels brings harmony to the entire household. Have you ever heard the expression, “If Mom’s not happy, nobody is?”

There is one more element that makes health coaching different for women than for men, that is overall responsibility. We live in a society where the majority of households have both spouses working. Unfortunately, that doesn’t mean they share the responsibilities at home. It is still the woman that manages most of the household chores and that has the main responsibility of childrearing. Take a full time job, add cleaning, laundry, and grocery shopping, then add taking care of the kids and their activities, and you’ve got a very full schedule. So much so, that the thought of having one more thing on her ‘to do’ list, like hitting the health club, can make her feel like screaming.

When it comes to health coaching women, finding a balance is very important. The elements that help her to take charge of her health need to dovetail into her current lifestyle or they won’t last. The best place to start is to take a look at how she currently spends her days and the daily decisions she makes. Through the coaching process, the client learns to better manage stress and take control of her health and wellness. This gives her a feeling of empowerment that creates more joy and energy in her life.

We are all familiar with the concept of health insurance and most people have it in some form or another, but have you ever stopped to wonder how it all began? The idea of paying monthly or annual fees to cover the cost of our health issues seems to be a modern one, but the truth is that there is a long history behind it.

Centuries Old

The original idea of health insurance was brought into being by Hugh Chamberlen in 1694. By the time the 1800`s rolled around, people were able to buy accident insurance, which worked to help those who were injured in an accident or who ended up disabled.

The very first health plans only offered compensation if the victim was injured due to an accident on a steamboat or train. While not terribly useful, since there were more injuries related to other circumstances at the time, it did prepare people for the more comprehensive types of plans that would be developed later on by insurance companies.

In 1847, the Massachusetts Health Insurance of Boston offered the very first group insurance policy with comprehensive benefits. By the 1890`s, insurance companies were starting to issue individual policies that covered everything from injuries and accidents to sickness and disease.

Health Insurance During the War

Group insurance plans as we know them today didn`t start until 1929 when a group of teachers decided to create their own plan. They worked a deal with the Baylor Hospital in Dallas, Texas where they would pay a monthly fee in exchange for medical attention and recovery care whenever needed, for any member of the group.

The idea went over so well that it wasn`t long before Blue Cross health plans were designed. These were health plans that were negotiated specifically with the local hospitals or even specific doctors. Discounts were given to the plan holders and the entire process worked very well.

By the 1940`s, it was evident that more than these very basic types of health insurance was necessary. Some people couldn’t afford the monthly fees, but were still in need of the protection afforded by having insurance. This is when employee health insurance became common. Employers would negotiate a deal for their workers and while you worked in a specific workplace, you were covered by their health plan.

During the Second World War, there was a wage freeze. No one was allowed to offer higher wages, which made it virtually impossible to lure the best worker to your company. With so many men away from the country fighting, getting the remaining workers available because a war in and of itself. Health benefits became the new lure and before the war ended in 1945, hundreds of businesses were offering comprehensive health packages in exchange for working for them.

Modern Times, Modern Plans

In the 50`s and 60`s, the government began to take an interest in health care and social security began to include disability insurance in 1954. Medicare and Medicaid were both created in the mid-60`s and by the 90`s, most Americans were enrolled in a managed care health insurance program. While minor changes have been made in the years since then, the basic premise has remained intact.

Health insurance has come a long way since the days of steamboats and rail cars, but it`s even more important now with health care costs on the rise. Built on decades of practical application, modern health insurance allows people to enjoy proper health care and emergency care without having to worry about paying huge amounts of money to a hospital or doctor.

When it comes to infertility and becoming pregnant, it is typically the female who will first seek professional help to deal with the inability to conceive. That may be because in our society it is commonly the woman who carries the burden of responsibility when it comes to conception, pregnancy and childbirth.

It is usually the female who tries to “correct” the problem and is evaluated and tested before the male partner is ever involved. That is usually a last ditch effort to find the fertility problem. However, according to statistics, it is male infertility in forty to fifty percent of the cases of couples facing infertility issues.

There are many explanations for male infertility. They can be anything from lifestyle and family history to medical issues or testicular injuries. Some common problems associated with male fertility are hypogonadism and varicocele or azoopermia, which can typically be treated depending on the severity. Studies show males who smoke cigarettes or marijuana or consume large amounts of alcohol tend to have reduced sperm counts and a lower quality of sperm.

Another study suggests that males who have taken certain antidepressant drugs had lower sperm counts as well. There are also other studies that have linked obesity with reduced or lower sperm counts. Issues with family history can also cause infertility.

Yet another family related cause may be the use of certain medicines or drugs by the effected male’s mother during her pregnancy with him. Some studies point towards environmental exposures, such as radiation exposure or excessive heat, as playing a role in reproductive health.

If corrections are needed, then the good news is that there are many surgical procedures and medications available to help with complications of infertility and trying to conceive. The male partner will usually be examined by a specialist and/or a urologist as well. The doctor will want to test the quality of the man’s sperm to determine the sperm count and the rate of mobility.

If there is some sort of a blockage, then that has a good chance of it being treated and fixed. In the case where sperm is not abundant in the semen, the doctor can actually go into the tubes and retrieve sperm through a medical procedure. There are other causes as well, but most can be solved with the use of fertility drugs.

As medical science has advanced, the treatments that are available for infertility and the inability to conceive have allowed couples to become more and more successful at getting pregnant. The stigma of infertility has also been taken off the women’s shoulders, as it is now becoming clear that men can have infertility problems as well.

Now many couples are taking the infertility issue head on as a couple and no one is getting the blame. Once you take away the stigma of blame, it makes for more open communication and a healthier relationship.

Nutrition and health science is constantly evolving, and it often seems as if the latest study contradicts earlier ones. It’s hard to know what to believe. But, over the last few decades, a wide array of independent studies has tended to confirm some conclusions about the relationship between excess body fat and associated health risks.

The basic conclusion is that anyone who is considerably overweight is at higher risk for a number of potential health problems. These include various forms of heart condition, high blood pressure, diabetes, colon cancer, liver damage, gallstones and others.

But what is ‘considerably overweight’?

There’s no static, ideal weight for any given individual, though there are various factors that provide a healthy range. One measurement that is a good starting point is BMI (Body Mass Index). To calculate it, just divide your weight (in kg) by your height (in m) squared. The following table is a rough classification:

Under 18.5 = Underweight

Between 18.5 and 24.99 = Normal Weight

Between 25 and 29.99 = Overweight

Between 30 and 34.99 = Obese (Class 1)

Between 35 and 39.99 = Obese (Class 2)

40 and above = Extreme Obesity

For those on the lower end of the BMI scale, health risks are no more (or at most only moderately higher) than for anyone. Genetic and other environmental factors will outweigh any body fat or weight issues. But for those nearer the higher range, there is strong evidence that health risks are higher.

For example, abdominal obesity (having large fat deposits around the stomach and abdomen) is associated with increased risk of cardiovascular disease and insulin resistance syndrome. For women, a waist circumference of 35 inches or more (40+ in men) is an indicator of abdominal obesity. Among other conditions, high blood pressure, high triglycerides and high cholesterol are all common factors associated with that condition.

Narrowing of the arteries, atherosclerosis, contributes to the possibility of a clot which can cause a stroke. Excessive body fat is one factor in producing that condition. At the same time, it plays a part in increased blood pressure (hypertension).

Rapid weight gain, from 10-20 lbs for the average person, increases the odds of developing Type 2 diabetes. Genetic factors are fundamental, but weight gain plays a role, according to most studies. The risk is double that of an individual who has not had a weight gain, when other factors are held constant.

Liver disease, apart from that associated with excessive alcohol consumption, can be caused by insulin resistance. That resistance is much more likely among those who are obese. There are many studies which have correlated BMI with the degree of liver damage. The higher the BMI, the greater the odds of liver trouble.

Gallstones are more likely to form in those who are obese, and may be correlated with a rapid rise in BMI. Sleep apnea (interruption of breathing during sleep) is another condition commonly linked to obesity.

In short, though no single study is definitive, and there are many genetic and other environmental elements, excessive body fat is a substantial factor in health issues. Being overweight is not merely an issue of acceptable appearance, it’s a health risk.

The entire human race is divided in fact into males and females. There are so many physical, physiological, mental and emotional differences that exist between the males and females. These differences actually make the males and females as unique as they are. These gender differences are not just sexual in the orientation but they make each part of the human species unique in their own way. The general perceptions that exist between the genders and will only be highlighted here for developing a basic insight into the most fundamental differences between the genders.

An indispensable part of the discussion focuses on the fact that the overall nature has created the males to be the providers and the females to be the nurturers. This is why the basic infrastructure of the male body is much stronger than the females. The idea is not to cross paths with any ideologies or groups favouring certain some sensibilities. We shall keep the discussion here by restricted only to the basic infrastructure that defines the differences in the genders.

The essential constitution of the male body is evenly directed towards strength, vigour and vitality. This is because the basic musculature and the skeletal systems are stronger than those of the females.

Yoga for Men

The extra strength of the body has to be developed and by maintained for healthy and disease free life. The various body yoga postures and yoga positions done in the yoga can be very beneficial for men. There are most various yoga postures that enhance the muscles and bones of the body. Also the basic organic functioning of the body can be augmented that by doing yoga. Yoga is an option for healthy lifestyle for people of various age groups.

A daily routine of yoga can be increasingly built up which can be followed as per one’s convenience and interest.
It is seen that the men who practice yoga along with the other forms of exercises benefit more. This is because the yoga practices are even designed according to the physical, physiological and even emotional and mental aspects of the different constitution of the body.

Yoga is one form of complete exercise for the entire system not because no other form of physical exercise gives a complete workout to the external and as well as the internal organs of the system. The practice of specific asanas and pranayama can totally develop the internal organs and the respiratory system so that the flow of vital prana is fully regulated in the system. This in turn controls and keeps all the other systems working in to complete coordination and optimum state. Yoga for men can thus prove to be very beneficial for men as it allows them to develop all the faculties of the body simultaneously.

Several problems that men find difficult to discuss and some are a kind of threat to their masculinity can be well tackled with the practice of yoga. The issues of impotency and certain psychological situations can be totally controlled successfully by using certain asanas and practice of yoga nidra. It would be a beneficial exercise to chalk out the certain regime for oneself and practice it for consistent results.

Traditionally dieting and weight loss has been a concern for the ladies. However, this is no longer the case. Men are becoming a lot more aware of their appearance and how it can affect all aspects of their life. So I’m going to take a look at the factors that contribute to weight gain for men.

Fortunately for you guys, you have a head start in the staying slim game compared to women due to physiological factors. Here are some of the reasons why:

Higher Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR)

Your BMR is the amount of energy, measured in calories, required to keep the body functioning when at rest, or energy used for physiological processes like breathing, digestion etc. The male basic metabolic rate is 5% to 10% higher than in women of the same weight and height. The higher basic metabolic rate is attributed to differences in body size and body composition. This is why the average calorie intake should be about 2000 for women and about 2500 for men.

Lower body fat percentage compared to women.

The average man has a greater proportion of muscle tissue than the average woman and 50% less body fat. The average man has14% body fat compared to 24% in the average woman. This is because you don’t have to go through the whole child bearing process and therefore don’t require the extra fat.

The presence of testosterone.

The male hormone, testosterone, acts as an anabolic agent to promote increased muscle mass.

However, despite these factors, men can still gain weight. So let’s have a look at reasons for gaining weight.

Increased Energy Intake

If you consume more calories than you expend then the excess will be laid down as fat. 3,500 calories is the equivalent to a pound in fat. Therefore, if you eat an excess of 500 calories a day, then you will gain a pound of fat every week – scary isn’t it?

Decreased Energy Expenditure

Similar to the above point really. In today’s world of modern conveniences, everybody is less active, including you guys.

If you take into account that men were ‘designed’ to be physically strong and participate in strenuous physical activity since the dawn of time, then it is understandable that the modern world with its vast array of time- and labour-saving devices, automated transport and sedentary lifestyles, has reduced the amount of physical activity most men do to a fraction of what was once the norm.

So the moral of the story is GET ACTIVE! And there are plenty of fun activities, wink wink!

Alcohol

Men tend to consume more alcohol than females. As boring as it is, if you cut out the booze you will see an improvement in your waistline. Not only is it the actual alcohol itself that leads to the numbers creeping up on the scales but it is the extra food that seem to crave when drinking. I am sure you are all familiar with the munchies after a night out and that kebab stop on the way home from the pub. That said, you can still lose weight by just reducing the amount you drink and making a few subtle changes, such as switching to diet mixers with your spirits. The theory is the clearer the drink the kinder it is – so swap the rum for vodka if you are weight conscious.

Another thought….

As the gap between men becoming financially independent and the time when they settle down is increasing there are more bachelors living alone and having to cook for themselves. This may mean for some of you that you rely on fast food or convenience meals and not stick to three balanced meals a day. For those that this applies to, why not try cooking properly for yourself, you never know you might even enjoy it!

Beliefs and Practices in Women Health

• Ramaiah Bheenaveni *

Rural women’s health is an infinitely broad topic. Many Indian women have come from circumstances in which women have limited access to healthcare. Traditionally, there has been discrimination towards women in decision-making; access to resources such as food, education and health care; job opportunities; and in child-rearing and parenting. However, women’s health in rural areas affects everything in their environment from their families to their economies and vice versa. A woman’s health, especially among the poor and illiterate, is often neglected not just by her family but by the woman herself. She is taught not to complain and if she does then she is directed either to use condiments in the kitchen or try faith healing.

Man is unique in that he has a distinct cultural environment of his own. This includes all the conditions in which men are born, brought up, live, work, procreate and perish. Culture as an environment is deeply related to the health of humans. It includes patterns of social organizations designed to regulate a particular society; one can understand the behaviour of people belonging to various sections and predict how an individual of a particular section will react in a given situation. With our knowledge of health, the treatment of diseases among ignorant peoples appears to be strange since they frequently follow practices of praying, wearing of amulets or consulting an exorcist who recites certain verbal formula. Hence, we can say that beliefs and cultural practices are predominately playing significant roles in the human health more peculiarly in the health of women.

Many rural people did not know about the services set up for them at sub-centres and PHC by the government because they did not see any evidence of these services being provided for them. As a part of the awareness programmes, the health workers (ANM) have been organizing to several exposure trips at the villages. It was there that the women were informed about the specifics of various services supposed to be made available to them. This encouraged some of them to ask questions and report on the situation in their PHC. They explained that though a nurse did visit their village it was not a daily visit, nor did she go beyond a certain point in the village, and certainly did not take a round of the village. They made a show of doing their duty by providing nominal services.

A variety of factors, including an older population, a limited supply of health care providers, and further distances from health care resources may contribute to special health concerns for people in non-metropolitan areas. Access to health care and social services are critical issues for rural women.

Belief is the psychological state in which an individual is convinced of the truth of a proposition. Like the related concepts truth, knowledge, and wisdom, there is no precise definition of belief on which scholars agree, but rather numerous theories and continued debate about the nature of belief 1.

The cultural phenomenon of social organization, according to Giger and Davidhizar (2004), includes groups in the social environment that influence cultural development and identification. The family, an important aspect of the social organization phenomenon, strongly influences cultural behavior through a process of socialization or enculturation of children and group members (Giger & Davidhizar; Niska, 1999). These learned cultural behaviors guide individuals through life situations, events and health practices. Understanding family from a cultural perspective is a significant element in providing nursing care to Mexican-Americans since Giger and Davidhizar identify the family as being most values in this culture.

Environmental control is defined by Giger and Davidhizar (2004) as the ability of persons within a particular cultural heritage to plan activities that control their environment as well as their perception of one’s ability to direct factors in the environment. Kuipers’ (1999) discussion of this model, in relation to Mexican-American culture, emphasized the construct of environmental control with a focus on locus-of-control, health beliefs, and folk medicine. Locus-of-control explains the way in which individuals, within their cultural environment, perceive their ability to control what happens to them and to their health. Health may be viewed as being dependent on outside forces or their own actions (Bundek et al., 1993). Beliefs about health and illness, which are components of environmental control, affect health practices, use of health resources, and a person’s response to experiences of both health and illness (Giger & Davidhizer, 2004; Northam, 1996). A third component of environmental control, folk medicine, includes alternative therapies such as using herbs and teas or visiting a cultural folk healer.

Objectives:

1. Exploration of women beliefs on health, risk and their relationship to lifestyles;

2. Elicitation of their views across a range of health-related behaviours and practices, especially puberty, menstruation, pregnancy and child rearing, and assessment of the potential for the positive promotion of women health in these and other areas of her sexual health.

3. Identification of the sources of information and influences on the development of health beliefs amongst women, particularly with respect to common elements in attitudes to risk-taking across a number of health beliefs and practices.

4. To focus on what women themselves know and want to know, including the salience of health, and the relevance of health-related knowledge in their lives

Hypothesis:

1. There is a positive relationship between social beliefs and cultural practices of a given society

2. Positive relationship may be observed among the social beliefs and cultural practices and various other factors such as caste, religion, social and traditional customs in society

3. The explanation for the persistence of belief systems is that people remain committed to them, but for this commitment to last long, the belief system must be validated

Research Design:

A quantitative and qualitative study, building on our previous work in this area, concerning the knowledge, attitudes, beliefs and practices of female children and young women to health, risk and lifestyles. A guiding methodological principle underpinning the study was the development of a sensitive research design for rather than on women: a study grounded not simply in what women know or need to know, but also in what they want to know and feel to be important in the context of their everyday lives. The methods enabling these principles to be taken forward are described below.

a) Area of the Study:

The Telangana region of Andhra Pradesh consists of ten districts namely Hyderabad, Ranagareddy, Mahabubnagar, Medak, Adilabad, Nizamabad, Karimnagar, Warangal, Nalgonda, and Khammam. From this region, the village Ramchandrapur in Koheda Mandal of Karimnagar district has been randomly selected as an area of the study.

b) Universe & Sampling:

According to 2001 census, the village Ramchandrapur has an approximate population of 1840 who from nearly 550 families. This village has a primary health centre (PHC), but lacks a major hospital within a range of 35 kms. And this village has been selected as universe for this study.

So for this study, the researcher adopted stratified-proportionate random method of sampling based on caste composition of the villagers and selected the respondents from the families mentioned in the habitation list of Ramchandrapur. This village population data was collected from Supraja Seva Samithi, a voluntary organization, which is working in the region for the last 10 years in the fields of health, education and environmental protection. The list consists of various caste grouping and from which proportionate stratified samples were selected. Then a list of about 181 respondents was prepared for data collection. Therefore, it is obvious that an attempt has been made to present a general picture of community data and on the basis of which, views and attitudes of the respondents were taken into consideration.

C) Tools of Data Collection:

As the research is qualitative and quantitative, non-participant observation and interview schedule was adopted for the collection of primary data. The aspects that will cover in the interview schedule were defined under two parts, one is for socio-economic and cultural status of respondents such as name, sex, age, social status, education, religion, income, nature and type of the house, etc. and the other for socio-cultural beliefs and practice patterns in health and the related treatment of the villagers.

D) Analysis and interpretation of data:

After arranging the collected data through tabulation and classification, they were analyzed and interpreted in the socio-cultural context so as to give a scientific basis to the study. Although statistical methods like frequencies, percentages, means, standard deviations, t-test, chi-squire and ANOVA have been used in the study, they were applied in a relevant way.

Findings:

Socio-Economic Profile:

During the field work, observed that 22 castes were appeared and most of the respondent belongs to the BC castes like Yadava, Gouda, Munnuru Kapu, Vishwa Brahmin, Mudiraj and a insignificant number of people belongs to services caste like Mangali, Chakali, Mera and so on. A considerable amount of people belongs to SC community i.e. Mala and Madigas. Only a few respondents belong to ST (Erukala) community. Out of the 181 respondents, 55 percent are male and 45 percent female,. This research is carried out with almost all the equal four fold age groups of respondents. Thus, it is noted that age group is scattered in this study. More number of respondents i.e. 91% belongs to Hindu religion and 5% are Muslim. Nearly 4% of the respondents belong to Christianity. It is also proved that common phenomena of religion composition in India.

In this village, a majority of the respondents i.e. 82 (45%) are illiterates. The next more number of respondents have studied up to primary and secondary level i.e. 24 (13%). There are 21 (12%) of the respondents can read and write. A significant number of respondents i.e. 18 (10%) claimed to have studied up to college level while the small number of people who have studied up to professional level, technical level and others stands at 7 (4%), 3 (2%) and 2 (1%) respectively. The findings reveal that more number of the respondents i.e. 55 (30.4%) are labourers and one-fourths of the respondents i.e. 45 (24.9%) are engaging in the farming. On the whole 38(21%) are continuing their caste occupation while 20 (11%) and 17 (9.4%) respondents are doing other occupation and brought up into the service sector respectively. Only a few of the respondents i.e. 6 (3.3%) are carrying out business.

It is also noted that a majority of the respondents i.e. 84.21% are living under the tiled houses and a significant number of the respondents i.e. 15.79% posses R.C.C houses. A substantial number of the BC community respondents i.e. 75% owned the tiled house and rest of them i.e. 14.29% have R.C.C. houses and 8.04% own asbestos roofed houses. Most of the SC respondents i.e. 91.49% are residing under the tiled houses while only 8.51% consist R.C.C. houses. Among the ST respondents, 33.33% have R.C.C., tiled house and thatched house equally. Regarding the income, less than 24% of the respondents earn Rs. 1501 – 2000 per month. Almost equal number i.e. 22.7 and 21.5 % of the respondents earn below Rs. 500 and between Rs. 1001 and 1500 respectively. A significant number of respondents i.e. 20 % obtaining monthly income is in the range of Rs. 501 – 1000 while only 12.7% claimed their income was over Rs. 2000.

This village consist very good fertile lands, There is just below half of the respondents i.e. 84 (46.4%) have not possess any land on their own. There are 35 (19.3%) of the respondents possess land between 1- 2.19 acres. A significant number of respondents i.e. 28 (15.5%) and 20 (11.04%) are having land between 2.20 – 4.39 acres and 5 – 9.39 acres respectively. A considerable number of respondents i.e. 14 (7.7%) are owned land 10 and above acres.

Social Dogmatism on Menstruation

Patriarchal societies have tended to control women by first announcing menarche (the onset of menstrual cycle in a young girl) to the world in an apparently celebratory fashion while thereafter attempting to control the implied fertility and sexual power by monthly rites of pollution, restriction and isolation of the menstruating woman.

The various names for menstruation or ‘periods’ point to its polluting quality. For instance in Telugu, it is called samurta or peddamanshi meaning attaining maturity. Menstrual blood is believed to be polluting. There are varying restrictions put on a girl due to this belief such as not touching people or hanging washed clothes out to dry; not touching certain flowering plants lest they die or not fruit; sleeping on a jute bag or woollen blanket away from others. A woman cannot touch her child during menstruation. If she has to, the child must first be unclothed completely or made to wear silken clothes. Visiting or touching images of gods, temples, religious scriptures is also prohibited. A fear is inculcated in the adolescent that she will sin if she breaks these taboos. Restrictions are also placed on diet. These pollution taboos result in many women getting an enforced rest for at least these three days of the month since they are barred from carrying out their normal activities.

Not only is menstrual blood supposed to be dirty, but evil too. A menstruating girl should not let her shadow fall on a child with measles lest the child turn blind. The used menstrual cloth also possesses an evil quality. If men see the cloth, dry or otherwise, they could go blind. If a cow were to swallow the cloth she would curse the girl with infertility. In villages in A.P., women do not throw their menstrual cloth-they either burn it or bury it.

There seem to be some similarities between Hindus and Muslims regarding the practice of some of these rituals. Among Muslims, the menstruating woman should not touch holy books lest they become impure. Converted Christians follow, although to a lesser degree, the rituals of their original castes. The taboos and rituals clearly devalue. Women’s reproductive powers. The notion of women being polluted and unclean can be ascribed to patriarchal control of women’s reproductive powers. While the woman fulfils a vital social role of giving birth to progeny through her biological reproductive capacity, she is, at the same time, isolated during menstruation.

Cultural Practices of Puberty

Most women do not know about the physiology of menstruation and therefore the first experience of menstruation is filled with fear, shame and disgust. In some areas such as in rural areas of A.P. the girl is sometimes told to dub three or four dots of menstrual blood or mustard oil on the wall and draw a line between the second and third or third and fourth; it is believed that she will finish her menstruation within two and a half or three and a half days in all subsequent periods.

Elaborate rituals are performed in south Indian states-as well as in many parts of north India-at the onset of menstruation. The onset of puberty is traditionally viewed in terms of the girl’s emergent sexuality and prospective motherhood. The pubescent girl is given an elaborate ritual bath, after a massage with turmeric and vermillion. The Mudiraj communities in A.P. isolate the pubescent girl for 21 days within the house, away from the male gaze. The room in which she is secluded is separated with an iron rod and a fire is kept constantly burning during this period. Fire signifies purity and also keeps away daiyyam or witches and evil spirits. The girl is polluted and hence prohibited from touching people and other people are not allowed to touch her. In case of default, a bath is essential for ritual purification.

The Impact of the Food Habits on Women Health:

Although women are more or less marginalized and neglected in relation to the quality and quantity of food, certain occasions in a woman’s life are celebrated with the offering of a variety of nutritious foods specially prepared for her. Almost every community has the practice of feeding a girl on her first menstruation with delicious and nutritive foods, with the time of seclusion for the period ranging between nine to 21 days. In parts of A.P., sweets made of jaggery, groundnuts, sesame, fenugreek, wheat flour and sorgum are given to the girl. Menstruation for the first time in the house of one’s in-laws is also considered very auspicious in all regions of A.P. and is celebrated with gaiety.. The idea seems to be to give the girl ‘rich’, that is, strength-giving foods as well as both ‘hot’ and ‘cold’ foods.

Certain ‘hot’ foods (like jaggery) and ‘cold’ foods (like tamarind and lemons) are taboo as it is believed that the girl will suffer from menstrual pain. ‘Hot’ foods may cause heavy bleeding and ‘cold’ foods may cause severe menstrual pain. Special foods are understood to compensate for the loss of blood, regularise the menstrual cycle and flow, strengthen her reproductive organs and generally contribute to her fertility.

Work Prohibition of Pregnant Women:

It is also observed during the fieldwork that almost all the respondents have revealed that prohibition of work is compulsory while a women pregnancy but this notion is varies to one community to another. The higher social status communities are not allowed to perform the works even domestic works also from the early months to after late months of maternity. Whereas weaker section women perform the daily domestic actives some of them perform field activates but it is only in the early months. They should also take rest in the late months of pregnancy and early months of maternity.

Encourage and Disencourage Food Items During the Pregnancy of Women:

During pregnancy and lactation, many traditional communities across the country restrict a woman’s food intake. It is believed that if a pregnant woman eats too much, the foetus will not have room to move. The abdomen is supposed to contain both the food and the foetus and the latter’s space needs should be given greater priority. Another reason for controlling a pregnant woman’s food consumption is perhaps that excess weight would reduce the productivity of her work in the fields and around the house. A widely prevalent practice all over India is shrimanta. In the seventh month of pregnancy special rituals are performed and different types of sweets are prepared and given to the parents-to-be. The purpose is to give moral support and encouragement to the pregnant woman and celebrate her achievement of having reached near full-term. The sweets are generally made of wheat flour, jaggery, ghee, fenugreek and dry fruits. In the final stages of pregnancy, the pregnant woman is supposed to cat these foods custom every day. This is a good custom because it provides the calories and protein needed for the rapidly growing foetus in the last trimester of pregnancy.

Food Items Encourage % Disencourage %

1.Milk 173 95.5 8 4.4

2.Green leafs 148 81.7 33 18.2

3.Toddy 80 44.1 101 55.8

4.Non-Veg 132 72.9 49 27

5.Papaya — — 181 100

6.Potato 49 27 132 72.9

7.Brinjal 50 27.6 131 72.3

The above table explains the villager’s perceptions on encourage and disencourage food items during the pregnancy of women. The data shows that there are 173 (95.5%) of the respondents have stated that they are encouraging milk and its related food items and only insignificant number of respondents i.e.8 (4.4%) are not encouraging the food items of milk. As many as 148 (81.7%) of them revealed that they are encouraging green leafs and rest of the significant number of respondents i.e. 33 (18.2%) are not interested to give the green leafs to the pregnants. Interestingly the data depicts that more than half of the respondents i.e. 101 (55.8%) have said that they are encouraging toddy and 80 (44.1%) of them are not giving taking toddy. A substantial number of the respondents i.e. 132 (72.9%) have expressed that they are encouraging the consummation of non-vegetarian foods like mutton, chicken and egg. The total number of respondents is practicing the prohibition of papaya consummation during the pregnancy. All most all equal number of respondents i.e. 49 (27%) and 50 (27.6%) have revealed that Potato and Brinjal are encouraged food items and as similar 132 (72.9%) and 131 (72.3%) of them are not encouraging the food items of Potato and Brinjal.

The data regarding Caring of Pregnant Women among the Villagers clarifies the pursuance of the opinion of several communities respondents such as Yadava 14 (7.7%), Gouda 3 (1.7%), Munurukapu 11 (6.1%), Oddera 6 (3.3%), Vishwa Brahmin 5 (2.8%), Mala 25 (13.8%), Madiga 21 (11.6%), Padmashali 7 (3.9%), each 3 (1.7%) of Mangali, Dudekula and Erukala, Kumari 2 (1.1%) and each 1 (0.6%) of Pusala, Mera, Chindi and Dakkali have stated that family and their kins are taking care of their pregnant women. In this category the total numbers of SC and ST communities are appeared because of less financial status and peer group pressure. A majority number of working caste like Yadava, Munnurukapu, Oddera, Padmashali, Dudekula and Kummari are appeared. However, these communities’ people are visiting either government or private hospital for check up their health conditions during early pregnant hood as well as before delivery. One more interesting thing that the caste Mangali itself is traditional birth attendant community in this village so we may consider them in response to this query that they are taking care about pregnant as a traditional birth attendant and as a family. On the whole 3 (1.7 %) of Yadava, 2 (1.1 %) Gouda, 1 (0.6 %) of Munnurukapu and Kummari, 8 (4.4 %) of Chakali, 5 (2.7%) of Dudekula and the total number of Mudiraj 7 (4%) community respondent have expressed that traditional birth attendant are taking care about pregnant of their communities. It is important to note that previous these caste people took care about pregnant but at presently they are seeking the help of traditional birth attendant by reason of saving of time. These kind of villagers always busy in their routine work if they involve in the caring process they should be lost more time in order to money also. The data also describes that all most all the respondents of Deshmukh 3 (1.6%), Vysya 4 (2.2%) and Vaisnava 5 (2.7%) communities have revealed that health workers or ANMs are looking after the pregnant women. It may due to the higher awareness regarding health and personal bias or prejudices of health workers or ANMs who are interested to associate with the higher social status communities.

On account of preferable birthplace; the responses of majority respondents i.e. 112 (62%) is that birth at the traditional birth attendant is more preferable. As many as number of respondent i.e. 36 (20%) have revealed that they prepared birthplace is Government Hospitals and the reaming respondents i.e. 32 (18%) have expressed their perception that Private Hospital are preferable to give the birth. The cluster analysis of data also provides the social status wise explanation that there are 7 (4%) of OC respondents, 19 (10.5%) of BCs and 10 (5.5%) of SCs are interested to go to the government hospitals. There are 10 (5.5%) of OCs and 23 (12.7%) of BCs were interested on Privates hospitals. Among the reaming of categories, the more number of BC respondents i.e. 70 (38.5%), 37 (20.5%) and the total number of ST community respondents i.e. 3 (1.7%) and only few {2(1.1%)} of OC respondent are still interested to give birth under the observation or treatment of traditional birth attendant.

Practices after Delivery:

Women underfed themselves during pregnancy and strove for a small baby to ensure easy delivery. Babies were not to be breast fed on first three days and baby-clothes were not used till a ceremony (purudu/Naming) on 9th day to 21st day. Mothers could not leave the delivery room till that day. To minimize the toilet needs, they severely restricted their intake of fluids and food during first week after delivery. Mothers did not wash hands properly; their clothes and linen were often dirty. Newborn babies, even if sick, were not moved out of home. The usual explanations for the sicknesses in neonates were ‘evil eye’, ‘witch craft’, or ill effects of foods eaten by mother.

The practice of breast-feeding female children for shorter periods of time reflects the strong desire for sons. If women are particularly anxious to have a male child, they may deliberately try to become pregnant again as soon as possible after a female is born. Conversely, women may consciously seek to avoid another pregnancy after the birth of a male child in order to give maximum attention to the new son

Summary and Conclusions:

Due to the orthodoxical and traditional dogma, majority numbers of respondent are not possess proper notion on Women’s health. In addition to supernatural beliefs about what brings on disease, women also have some beliefs about the non-physical causes of ill-health. The most commonly found syndrome was ‘weakness’ which consists of fatigue, body ache, ghabrahat (a generic term used for anxiety, fear, restlessness, trepidation, etc.), pallor, low backache and burning of palms and feet. Thus poverty, illiteracy and social backwardness complete the subordination of women. In reality, therefore, most women carry a tremendous degree of mental anguish and agony due to the improper beliefs and practices.

However, practices existed to over come or to tune with the problems, which may be physical, psychological, cultural and environmental. Subsequently practices are to be strengthen in order to persisting as the beliefs. Once, belief is to be got its own identity; the existence of practice should automatically come by the deeds of the victims or followers. Sometimes belief might be deteriorate due to the business, cost effective and the rationalism should also vanish the irrational beliefs so that we can eventually conclude beliefs exist by the practices which may takes place to over come the problems or to adjust with the nature.

As we all know the health risks from obesity are numerous. It always seems as if the latest study contradicts earlier ones and it’s hard to know what to believe. But, over the last few decades, a wide array of independent studies has tended to confirm some conclusions about the relationship between excess body fat and associated health risks.

What most seem to agree on is that anyone who is considerably overweight is at higher risk for a number of potential health problems. These include various forms of heart condition, high blood pressure, diabetes, colon cancer, liver damage, gallstones and others. As you can see the health risks from obesity are many and very serious.

How can you tell if your obese or seriously overweight?

There’s no ideal weight for any given individual, though there are various factors that provide a healthy range. One measurement that is a good starting point is BMI (Body Mass Index). To calculate it, just divide your weight (in kg) by your height (in m) squared. The following table is a rough classification:

Under 18.5 = Underweight

Between 18.5 and 24.99 = Normal Weight

Between 25 and 29.99 = Overweight

Between 30 and 34.99 = Obese (Class 1)

Between 35 and 39.99 = Obese (Class 2)

40 and above = Extreme Obesity

If you are on the lower end of the BMI scale, health risks are no more (or at most only moderately higher) than for anyone. Genetic and other environmental factors will outweigh any body fat or weight issues. But for those nearer the higher range, there is strong evidence that health risks are higher.

Other health risks from obesity include, abdominal obesity (having large fat deposits around the stomach and abdomen) is associated with increased risk of cardiovascular disease and insulin resistance syndrome. For women, a waist circumference of 35 inches or more (40+ in men) is an indicator of abdominal obesity. Among other conditions, high blood pressure, high triglycerides and high cholesterol are all common factors associated with that condition.

There is also narrowing of the arteries, or atherosclerosis, which contributes to the possibility of a clot which can cause a stroke. Excessive body fat is one factor in producing that condition. At the same time, it plays a part in increased blood pressure (hypertension).

If you have rapid weight gain, from 10-20 lbs for the average person, this will increase the odds of developing Type 2 diabetes. Genetic factors are fundamental, but weight gain plays a role, according to most studies. The risk is double that of an individual who has not had a weight gain, when other factors are held constant.

Another health risk is Liver disease, apart from that associated with excessive alcohol consumption, can be caused by insulin resistance. That resistance is much more likely among those who are obese. There are many studies which have correlated BMI with the degree of liver damage. The higher the BMI, the greater the odds of liver trouble.

Then there are gallstones which are more likely to form in those who are obese, and may be correlated with a rapid rise in BMI. Sleep apnea (interruption of breathing during sleep) is another condition commonly linked to obesity.

To conclude, though no single study is definitive, and there are many genetic and other environmental elements, excessive body fat is a substantial factor in health issues. Being overweight and the health risks from obesity is not merely an issue of acceptable appearance, it’s a health risk.

Looking for a good womenâ??s health magazine can be daunting. Womenâ??s health is big business. Itâ??s not that your health is any worse than menâ??s. But with the additional burden of preventing conception and carrying children, your health is more easily and more commonly affected.

You may be looking for a womenâ??s health magazine that provides you with effective, alternatives to drugs for gynaecological problems. No woman wants the inconvenience of long or painful periods and itâ??s worse when youâ??re trying to hold down a demanding job. But drugs take their toll too, from unwanted side effects to causing cancer.

A good quality womenâ??s health magazine should cover aspects such as;

checking your breasts regularly for lumps. What about mammograms. Theyâ??re extremely uncomfortable, if not downright painful. Can they really be helpful? Are there any alternatives not offered you by mainstream medicine?
alternative contraceptive methods to the pill. Itâ??s unfair that the role of responsibility for preventing unwanted pregnancies seems to fall, for the most part, on women. Although that means youâ??re more in control, it also means the potential of more harm to your body.
effective alternatives to surgery. You may prefer to explore these first, before committing to irreversible surgery.

Some gynaecologists think that nature got it wrong when creating a womanâ??s body, and that science can put it right. You may take exception to that idea. Or perhaps just donâ??t want your organs removed unless there really is no other choice.

Were you aware that the term hysterectomy is derived from the word hysteria? That may give you an insight into the way medical science views women in general.

Did you know that breast cancer is big business in the pharmaceutical industry? Could it be that they donâ??t want you to know about cures because that would affect their business? There have been so many documented cases of natural cures of cancer now, that theyâ??re almost common place.

Whatever it is youâ??re looking for in a quality womenâ??s health magazine, thereâ??s no getting away from the effective and low cost homeopathic treatment of gynaecological issues. And thatâ??s not taking into consideration the lack of side effects or long term consequences. There just arenâ??t any.

Homeopathic treatment is all about getting to the cause of the problem. In your case that could be from typical womenâ??s health issues such as taking the pill or childbirth, but it could also be from a more general cause such as concussion or a tetanus vaccine.

Did you know that there are two ways of using homoeopathic remedies? One is to use the services of a professional homeopath, which is the only sensible way to resolve deep issues.

But you can also use homoeopathic remedies in the safety of your own home, given some sound advice and a homeopathic home prescribing kit.

So a good quality womenâ??s health magazine needs to cover aspects of general health, as well as that specifically related to womenâ??s health. Aspects such as

a good die – after all, diet is such a large part of good health, you need to ensure youâ??ve got a handle on that.
dietary supplements – there are many available and theyâ??re not all equal. How do you know which is most effective?
effective, alternative, natural medicines – why take drugs or have surgery if you donâ??t have to?

Sexuality is a big part of being human. Love, affection and sexual intimacy all play a role in healthy relationships. They also contribute to your sense of well-being. A number of disorders can affect the ability to have or enjoy sex, including erectile dysfunction and female sexual problems. Concerns about infertility or fear of unplanned pregnancy can also come into play.

Sexual disorders can sometimes be prevented from occurring in the first place. Parents who communicate openly and honestly with children about sexual issues may help prevent them from developing anxiety and guilt that may later lead to sexual disorders. Open communication between sexual partners is also helpful. People who have experienced abuse or other sexual violence may develop a sexual disorder as a result of their trauma.

As part of our comprehensive strategy to improve the sexual health of the population, the Department of Health is working to reduce the prevalence of sexually transmitted infections and HIV, reduce unintended pregnancies (particularly teenage pregnancies) and improve the range, access to and quality of service provision. On these pages you will find more information and guidance on sexual health including contraception, abortion and STIs and HIV.

Millions upon millions of men around the world are dissatisfied with some aspect of their male sexual health. Some are discontent with the size of their penis while others are disappointed with the low volume of semen they ejaculate during intercourse and yet there are others who are disappointed with sub par erections and lack of male libido. Not to worry! Our site is specifically designed to help men explore the various male enhancement options available for improving male sexual health.

Societal attitudes toward sexuality in later life are troubling. A great number believe that far fewer mature men and women have sex than actually do. Many feel that after a certain age, sexuality becomes an insignificant or indifferent part of life. Nothing could be farther from the truth. Most older people experience some interest in sexual intimacy. Many people are sexually intimate well into their 80s and beyond. We do not all of a sudden become asexual beings; our capacity for sexual intimacy will be with us our entire lives.

Penile erection is sustained by holding back and trapping the blood in the penis. The enlarged penis compresses the blood vessels that drain the blood out of penis to the tunica albuginea. But when an enzyme called phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) becomes active, the cGMP level falls, followed by corpora cavernosa muscle contraction. As a result the blood in-flow is stopped and the veins drain the blood out of the penis and the erection goes away.

Contraception: Improving access to contraceptive services and to the full range of methods is one of the key aims of the Government’s White Paper – Choosing Health: making healthy choices easier. This section contains documents and guidance on contraception policy.

As we all approach later life, two of the things which brought us the greatest joy – our children and/or our careers – are no longer as prevalent in our every day. This means that our personal relationships take on an increased importance. It is a way of solidifying our relationship with our partner and taking refuge from the sometimes harsh reality of the world. Sex is a way to affirm the love of life. It is an expression of the satisfaction gained from the present. It expresses the closeness of our deepest relationships and is an important measure of the quality of life.

The Primary Health Care (PHC) strategy has proved to be a turning point in the history of health care policy. PHC was defined as â??essential health care based on practical, scientifically sound and socially acceptable methods and technology, made universally accessible to individuals and families in the community through their full participation and at a cost that the community and the country can afford to maintain at every stage of development in the spirit of self-reliance and self determinationâ?. PHC was expected to form an integral part of both the countryâ??s health system, of which it is the central function and main focus, and the overall social and economic development of the community. It would be the first level of contact of individuals, the family and community with the national health system, bringing health care as close as possible to where people work and live, and constitute the first element of a continuing health

care process.

PHC comprises eight elements:

ü      education concerning prevailing health problems and the methods of preventing and controlling them,

ü      promotion of food supply and proper nutrition,

ü      adequate supply of safe water and basic sanitation,

ü      maternal and child health care, including family planning,

ü      immunization against major infectious diseases,

ü      prevention and control of locally endemic diseases,

ü      appropriate treatment of common diseases and injuries, and

ü      provision of essential drugs.

The ideology and principles behind PHC closely match what was and has since been advocated in human development such as social justice, equity, human rights, universal access to services, giving priority to the most vulnerable and underprivileged, and community involvement. It is a recognized fact that the promotion and protection of the health of the people is essential to sustained economic and social development and contributes to better quality of life and to world peace. These prioritized PHC as the main strategy for achieving health for all. Despite this commitment and several years of work, not much has been achieved.

There is a need to examine the implementation of primary health care and identify strategic interventions needed to cope with the new challenges facing health systems, as a contribution to developing an agenda for strengthening PHC in the 21st century.

Key ISSUES that may need TO BE REVIEWED/addressed for strengthening PHCâ??s are:

ü      PHC policy formulation: How was the PHC policy formulated? What was the process of formulating PHC policy, the content of the PHC policy etc.

ü      PHC policy implementation: How are the PHC policies being implemented? Aspects to examine include advocacy and marketing, actors and partners, structures and processes etc..

ü      PHC resources: What resources are available for PHC implementation, for example human and financial resources, as well as PHC physical resources and structures?

ü      PHC monitoring and review: How are PHC policy and strategies being monitored and reviewed?

ü      Health trends: What are the trends of the main health and health-related challenges?

PROCESS

Data for the review to be obtained from the following sources:

ü      Unstructured interviews with interviewees/informants that have intimate knowledge of PHC implementation, such as policy makers, implementers at all levels, other sectors involved, WHO and other partners.

ü      Discussions with a wider audience of people who have intimate knowledge of PHC implementation. These included policy makers implementers, NGOs, private sector, health related institutions, WHO and other partners

ü      A desk analysis of available documents and reports specific to the country and extensive analysis of all available published and unpublished documents and materials.

Sub-Centres (SCs)

The Sub-Centre is the most peripheral and first contact point between the primary health care system and the community.  Each Sub-Centre is manned by one Auxiliary Nurse Midwife (ANM) and one Male Health Worker MPW (M) (for details of staffing pattern, see Box 1).  One Lady Health Worker (LHV) is entrusted with the task of supervision of six Sub-Centres. Sub-Centres are assigned tasks relating to interpersonal communication in order to bring about behavioral change and provide services in relation to maternal and child health, family welfare, nutrition, immunization, diarrhea control and control of communicable diseases programmes.  The Sub-Centres are provided with basic drugs for minor ailments needed for taking care of essential health needs of men, women and children. The Department of Family Welfare is providing 100% Central assistance to all the Sub-Centres in the country since April 2002 in the form of salary of ANMs and LHVs, rent at the rate of Rs. 3000/- per annum and contingency at the rate of Rs. 3200/- per annum, in addition to drugs and equipment kits. The salary of the Male Worker is borne by the State Governments.  Under the Swap Scheme, the Government of India has taken over an additional 39554 Sub Centres from State Governments / Union Territories since April, 2002 in lieu of 5434 number of Rural Family Welfare Centres transferred to the State Governments / Union Territories. There are 146026 Sub Centres functioning in the country as on September, 2005 as compared to 142655 in September, 2004.

Primary Health Centres (PHCs)

PHC is the first contact point between village community and the Medical Officer. The PHCs were envisaged to provide an integrated curative and preventive health care to the rural population with emphasis on preventive and promotive aspects of health care. The PHCs are established and maintained by the State Governments under the Minimum Needs Programme (MNP)/ Basic Minimum Services Programme (BMS). At present, a PHC is manned by a Medical Officer supported by 14 paramedical and other staff.  It acts as a referral unit for 6 Sub Centres.  It has 4 – 6 beds for patients.  The activities of PHC involve curative, preventive, primitive and Family Welfare Services.  There are 23236 PHCs functioning as on September, 2005 in the country as compared to 23109 in September, 2004.

 Community Health Centres (CHCs)

CHCs are being established and maintained by the State Government under MNP/BMS programme . It is manned by four medical specialists i.e. Surgeon, Physician, Gynecologist and Pediatrician supported by 21 paramedical and other staff.  It has 30 in-door beds with one OT, X-ray, Labour Room and Laboratory facilities.  It serves as a referral centre for 4 PHCs and also provides facilities for obstetric care and specialist consultations. As on September, 2005, there are 3346 CHCs functioning in the country.

Skin care for men may sometimes differ from womenâ??s.  At one time, it seemed the only thing that companies focused on was a manly fragrance, but men skin care should address a number of issues.

Most guys shave.  They play hard sports and are frequently exposed to the elements.  They may be neglectful about skincare and the use of sun block.  As a result, they may find that they have premature aging and other types of damage that must be addressed quickly.  Here are some of the things that skin care for men should encompass.

Problem #1 – Redness, Inflammation

Due in part to shaving, menâ??s skin is particularly prone to redness and inflammation.  A new, just for men skin care line has been introduced that addresses this issue.  One of the active components is called Functional Keratin.

Functional keratin has been shown in clinical studies to block the production of prostaglandin E2 or PGE2.  This is the biochemical pathway that leads to inflammation and redness.  Studies have shown a 70% reduction of PGE2 and thus a reduction of redness and inflammation.  This is particularly good after shaving
.
You may see some skin care for men that contain keratin, but this is not the same as Functional Keratin.  The peptide proteins are not active in the older types of keratin.  Functional Keratin is new and created using a patented process that allows the peptides to remain active and penetrate deeply.

Problems #2 – Overexposure to the Elements

Oxidation causes wrinkles and damage that can lead to cancer.  You canâ??t avoid oxygen, but you can prevent it from damaging the cells.  Of course, you should limit your exposure to the sun, because it increases oxidation and free radical production.  You should also wear a zinc oxide sun block when you expect to be out for more than 15 minutes, but there are other things to do, as well.

Solutions for Men Skin Care

For both women and men skin care products should include antioxidants to prevent oxidation and repair free radical damage.  Coenzyme Q10 and vitamin E are most important, but there are other plant antioxidants that are even more active.

But, skin care for men should also include a daily fluid that contains vitamin B5.  This protects from sunburn, relieves irritation, repairs damaged tissues and enhances the natural tanning process.  Tanning protects the deepest of the skinâ??s layers from UV radiation that can lead to cancer.

The daily use of sunscreens should be avoided, since it can lead to vitamin D deficiency and some sunscreen ingredients are hazardous to your health.  Be sure, though to take additional precautions whenever possible.  Wear a hat and stay in the shade.  Use zinc oxide, as needed.

Witch Hazel

For men skin care fluids should contain witch hazel.  Itâ??s much better than using an after shave which can increase redness, itching, dryness, irritation and inflammation.  Witch hazel is soothing.

It reduces inflammation and redness.  It should be used after a shaving cut or abrasion.  It can also sooth sunburns.  It has natural antioxidant and astringent action, but in the right composition causes no burning.

The best skin care for men comes from a company that does no television advertising, so you wonâ??t see it during halftime.  You have to take the time to look for it now, while youâ??re thinking about it.

While men’s skincare has its own unique issues to solve, much of the skincare advice here is effective for both genders. First, make sure all of your men’s skincare products are safe and support the skinâ??s overall health. For women and men anti-aging skincare should be completely safe, but many of the ingredients that cosmetic companies use are not safe and they are not even beneficial.

The big thing right now is to include this ingredient called argireline. They advertize it as a â??safeâ? alternative to Botox injections. It is marketed as womenâ??s and menâ??s anti-aging skincare â??miracles.â?

Supposedly, there are immediate and lasting results, but the product has never been evaluated for safety. It is supposed to relax the facial muscles. Thatâ??s supposed to reduce your wrinkles.

People used to call them â??laugh linesâ?, but we know that wrinkles arenâ??t really caused by facial expressions. They are caused by free radical damage. No matter what your age, your men’s skincare lotion should contain antioxidants, because they prevent the formation of free radicals and undo some of the damage that has already been done.

For men anti-aging skincare should also address the issue of redness and inflammation. Men who shave every day are particularly prone to these two problems.

An amino acid protein peptide has been shown in clinical studies to prevent inflammation and reduce redness. Itâ??s extracted from sheepâ??s wool, so itâ??s completely safe.

The extract also increases skin cell proliferation. This is something that scientists measure when they are evaluating effectiveness. When the body produces more skin cells, there is increased production of collagen and elastin fibers. Firmness begins to return and wrinkles become less noticeable.

Witch hazel should be apart of all men’s skincare routine. It is an effective astringent, so it prevents infection in shaving nicks and cuts. It has antioxidants activity, so it helps prevent free radical damage. And, it is very soothing to sun and razor burns.

If they are designed for men anti-aging skincare creams should contain capuacu butter. It is more effective than Shea butter or Aloe Vera for the relief of burns and irritations. It naturally moisturizes without creating a greasy feeling.

Capuacu butter is made from fruit, so once again, itâ??s completely safe. Another safe and effective ingredient is grape seed oil. All men’s skincare creams should contain grape seed oil. Itâ??s an effective moisturizer, a wonderful antioxidant and it creates an invisible film that locks out dirt.

Your skin will stay cleaner longer. Youâ??ll have fewer breakouts and blackheads.

For men anti-aging skincare may seem like an uphill battle, but it doesnâ??t have to be. You simply have to buy lotions and creams that give your skin the nourishment that it needs to keep producing new cells.

It needs protein, vitamins, antioxidants, fatty acids and moisture. You should take a good daily multivitamin and drink plenty of purified water. Every day, you should use a lotion that contains everything that the epidermis needs to stay healthy.

It may be a little difficult to find men’s skincare products that contain all of those things. But, if itâ??s not too much trouble, take the time to look right now. Youâ??ll be glad you did.

There are close-to-universal cravings and desires that may, or may not, be healthy. And yearnings to be better in something than we are now. The topic varies-socializing, academic pursuits, a particular skill, appearance-but the feelings are the same.

Few can entirely escape sadness and loss; desire for something we believe we cannot have; judging ourselves as less-than-others in some way; feeling misunderstood.

Yes, some of these are unavoidable. But many can be eased or eliminated entirely through hypnosis with a resourceful hypnotist.

Women face certain issues more than men or imbue them with greater importance: Men are as likely as women to be overweight (several studies say more likely). Women are more often bothered by it.

And did you know the smoking habit manifests itself differently depending upon gender?

(Warning: Rampant Generalizations Ahead.)

It’s because the following may differ: reasons for smoking, how the habit started, what smoking means to the smoker-what that smoker believes he or she will lose if the habit is eliminated.

I have written several articles detailing the differences, but here is a summary:

Men usually start smoking because their friends do, judging it a sign of masculinity.

Women involved with others who smoke are more likely to smoke themselves, but are equally likely to start smoking to lose weight.

While smokers are individuals, there is similarity per gender in many aspects of the habit:

Most men start earlier than women, in early teens, so among smokers of the same age, the men have generally been smoking for more years.

Portrayal of males in films, literature, art and pop culture has aggrandized cigarettes.

Not surprisingly, to many men it represents masculinity, independence, and toughness.

Men smoke to bond and legitimize solitude, appearing occupied, not awkwardly alone. Many use smoking rituals to collect their thoughts and buy time before answering a question or committing to a request.

For women, smoking signals sexiness while providing a way to avoid overeating, thereby staying slim. Many female smokers enjoy the gesture of bringing cigarette to lips, and consider it provocative.

In fact, a few men have suggested to me that a woman who “smokes well” calls attention to her lips, a symbol of seductiveness and female sexual organs. Perhaps women smokers intuitively know this or have learned it through media portrayal.

Despite these ‘virtues’ of smoking, many women yearn to quit because of health concerns (higher in women than men), the smell, and a desire to become pregnant at some time and bear a healthy child.

Interestingly, in my mind-coaching practice, men come most often to quit smoking and to improve in business and sports. Women use hypnotic services to improve in these areas of life and many more: to increase their sexual desire and attractability, help enhance fertility, acquire better careers, and dispel fears and concerns in many areas of life.

Some want to boost skills like public speaking, requesting promotions, persuasiveness and a host of other desires, hopes, and wishes they want fulfilled-and fears they are choosing to overcome.

It is usually women who call with a unique request. From these, I discovered that hypnosis can indeed help with acne and other skin disturbances, may replace or aid in anesthesia, soothe irritable bowel issues, ease migraine and menstrual pain, and more. (All medical-related requests should involve the client’s physician-hypnosis should not cover up an ailment that may require medical intervention.)

Women generally make extraordinary hypnosis clients, often requesting lessons in self-hypnosis to reinforce the work and tap into other desires. Men who are eager to change benefit equally, maybe even more when it becomes a ritual like their workout program. Those who successfully quit smoking through hypnosis are most likely to use it successfully for other goals. ©2009 by Wendy Lapidus-Saltz. All rights reserved.

Candidiasis in men is a yeast infection, commonly of the penis, mouth or skin. And Candidiasis in men is more common than you might think. It’s just not talked about as much, and, men are far more secretive about problems ‘down under’. But Candidiasis in men exists and must be treated with the same seriousness as in women.

The main symptoms of penile Candidiasis are; a red rash with white lesions on the head of the penis, sometimes ulcerations, itchiness, dry flaking skin, pain when peeing, painful intercourse, sometimes loss of libido.

The symptoms of oral Candidiasis are; white / yellowish spots on mucous membranes, thick white coated tongue, cracks in tongue, problems swallowing, and, bad breath.

On the skin look for rashes, lesions, eczema, acne, etc.

The cause of Candidiasis in men is the same as in women; a yeast-like fungus called Candida albicans. This is found in all of us quite naturally but is normally easily controlled by the friendly bacteria in our bodies. Sometimes the good guys can be overwhelmed though, and the Candida albicans ‘overgrows’ to such a level that it causes what we call Candidiasis, or, Candida, Moniliasis, Yeast Infection, or Thrush. Penile Candidiasis is more likely to occur in uncircumcised men, since the Candida albicans just loves the dark, warm, moist areas of the body.

There are many reasons why the beneficial bacteria cannot prevent the fungal overgrow. And of course if we know why this happens, we are well on the way to curing the infection faster, and more importantly, preventing it returning ever again. Some of the more common reasons are; overuse of antibiotics and / or steroids, diabetes, compromised immune system, bad diet, so-called recreational drugs, ill-health, some medications, obesity, etc.

Treatment for Candidiasis in men is normally by drug-based topical antifungal medications that normally work between seven and fourteen days. These are available by prescription or over-the-counter. For severe Candidiasis oral tablets may also be in order. The downside of using drug-based treatment for some men are the bad side-effects of some drugs and the ability of the yeast infection to come back, sometimes repeatedly.

Also, when you think about it, these drug-based medications cannot address the underlying causes of the Candida overgrow in the first place: things like your diet, general health and ‘lifestyle’ issues as shown above. So if these are not identified and sorted out quickly your cure can take much longer than necessary, and, there is a much higher chance that your yeast infection will return.

This has forced many men to turn to alternative, more holistic therapies to cure their Candidiasis fast and permanently. And there are even reports of cures within 12 hours, using these completely natural home-based remedies.

Discover how to cure Candidiasis in men fast and permanently by going to http://yeast-infection-men.blogspot.com and you could be getting relief in 12 hours too.

One of the more common problems that are immediately found to be connected with men is that of prostate diseases. The prostate, known as the gland in the male reproductive system, is a very sensitive part for males, especially when they reach a certain age in their lives. Usually, if the prostates are not given proper attention, these could lead towards prostate cancer. Fortunately enough for people, prostate cancer is not an incurable disease. A large number of men are sure to encounter such a disease along their lives, particularly the men who reach the age of 50.

Usually, prostate diseases can be prevented through undergoing physical examinations. Prostate screening is usually a key addition in medical packages offered to male employees, or more familiarly called the PSA examinations as done through laboratory testing. Biopsies are usually performed for suspicious findings after such examinations are gone through. The reason behind prostate diagnostics as a delicate issue is that it would eventually lead to prostate cancer. Thus the need for immediate prostate cancer treatments should be immediately taken up by males so as to put the possible spread of the disease at a controlled stage.

Symptoms of Prostate Illnesses

It is not hard to determine the possible symptoms of prostate cancer. Usually, men who have a hard time urinating or worse, seeing blood that goes along with their urine is a bad sign of the presence of possible prostate diseases. Preventing prostate cancer can be done, but as narrated earlier, it can only be determined through proper prostate diagnostics from physical examinations that are usually made available to men at a latter age. Prostate treatment options will evidently be given by the attending physicians to the male patients. Properly providing the necessary prostate cancer preventive measures at the soonest possible time will be better since it will surely negate the prostate disease from getting out of hand.

Prostate Cancer Staging

Staging is a common term seen in most cancer patients. In prostate cancer issues, prostate cancer staging is also another aspect that most men will need to know, so that the proper prostate cancer diagnosis and treatment can be identified and done. For the more attentive people, providing the immediate attention towards prostate cancer symptoms, prevention and treatment is the best way to take control of their situation. Otherwise, failure to do so may lead to an incurable disease, something that prostate cancer has not been known for.

Preventing Prostate Cancer

After the symptoms of prostate illnesses are starting to show, each male specie should be aware that taking for granted the necessary prostate cancer treatment and preventions may aggravate the disease into what most people dread the most, this being prostate cancer, a disease that claims the lives of most men at their latter ages. While people who reach an age with an aggravated case of prostate cancer can still be given proper treatment such as chemotherapy, surgery, and radiation therapy, it would still be the best way to be more attentive in the early stages to avoid complications. Cancer in any form is something that is hard to cure, and prostate cancer is something that also entails probably spread of the disease towards innocent human body parts, something that will spell more problems and complications for the patients suffering from them.

A new study finds that women who had stopped being religiously active were more than three times more likely to have suffered generalized anxiety and alcohol abuse/dependence than women who reported always having been active.

“One’s lifetime pattern of religious service attendance can be related to psychiatric illness,” says Temple University’s Joanna Maselko, Sc.D., an assistant professor of public health and co-author of the study, which appears in the January issue of Social Psychiatry and Psychiatric Epidemiology. Conversely, men who stopped being religiously active were less likely to suffer major depression when compared to men who had always been religiously active.

Maselko offers one possible explanation for the gender differences in the relationship between religious activity and mental health. “Women are simply more integrated into the social networks of their religious communities. When they stop attending religious services, they lose access to that network and all its potential benefits. Men may not be as integrated into the religious community in the first place and so may not suffer the negative consequences of leaving,” Maselko said.

The study expands on previous research in the field by analyzing the relationship between mental health — anxiety, depression and alcohol dependence or abuse — and spirituality using current and past levels, said Maselko, who conducted the research when she was at Harvard University.

In the study sample, comprising 718 adults, a majority of men and women changed their level of religious activity between childhood and adulthood, which was critical information for the researchers. “A person’s current level of spirituality is only part of the story. We can only get a better understanding of the relationship between health and spirituality by knowing a person’s lifetime religious history,” Maselko said.

Out of the 278 women in the group, 39 percent (N=109) had always been religiously active and 51 percent (N=141) had not been active since childhood. About 7 percent of the women who have always been religiously active met the criteria for generalized anxiety disorder compared to 21 percent of women who had stopped being religiously active.

“Everyone has some spirituality, whether it is an active part of their life or not; whether they are agnostic or atheist or just ‘non-practicing.’ These choices potentially have health implications, similar to the way that one’s social networks do,” Maselko said.
