Obesity is a health crisis in Illinois. Across our state, the number of overweight and obese individuals is rapidly increasing. In fact, more than 61% of the population of Illinois is overweight or obese. Not only is obesity the second most common cause of preventable death in the United States, but it can also foster comorbidities—that is, life-threatening illnesses related to obesity—such as heart disease, high blood pressure, and Type 2 Diabetes.

Unsurprisingly, Illinois also spends a fortune each year – some $3.5 billion – on expenses attributable to the obesity epidemic.

It’s obvious that something must be done to stop the epidemic of obesity in our state.

Getting Fit

Weight loss itself is a no great problem: by cutting a person’s daily caloric intake below the number of calories their body needs to maintain life, weight loss can be easily effected. The difficulty comes in conquering the primal urge to eat when hungry.

Obesity is not simply a matter of weight, nor is it a character flaw. It is a disease caused by a disordered relationship with food. For some, the pleasure of eating is a substitute for emotional satisfaction. Others are food addicts, who battle an overwhelming urge to eat even when they aren’t hungry. Sadly, the pain of obesity often leads those with the disease to attempt self-treatment, including fad diets, exercise programs, or gimmicks like so-called weight-loss pills. These efforts lead some to lose significant weight, but most quickly regain it. Many people suffer damage to their health as a result of such quickie “cures”.

No miracle cure for obesity exists. The only way to successfully treat the disease of obesity is through medical care, based upon a complete change in the patient’s lifestyle and eating habits. To beat obesity we must change the way we relate to food, making better food choices and eating less of it. Most of us can accomplish this through education and willpower, in some cases combined with counseling and support. For the rest, weight loss surgery is the only way to combat the disease.

About Weight Loss Surgery

Weight loss surgery works by surgically altering the patient’s stomach and/or digestive tract in order to physically limit the amount of food the patient can eat at a given time. This may be done by removing part of the stomach, or by re-routing the flow of ingested food around the areas where the calories are absorbed. In Lap-band surgery — the most widespread procedure — the stomach and bowel are not cut; only a few small incisions in the abdomen are made to allow the surgeon access to the stomach. An inflatable band is then placed around the stomach, creating a small pouch. If successful, these alterations will cause the patient to take in fewer calories each day than he or she burns, resulting in steady, safe weight loss.

But losing weight is only half the battle. Only a complete change in a patient’s lifestyle can win the war on obesity. Patients who fail to change their activity level and dietary habits may regain any weight lost via surgery.

Summing It Up

Weight loss surgery is a powerful weapon in Illinois’ fight against obesity, but it is only one weapon. To win the fight, we must be willing to change the way we live – eating better food, and less of it, and living an active lifestyle. Only by combining these weapons with our will to win can we conquer obesity and live longer, healthier lives.

Obesity â?? the condition of weighing more than is deemed medically healthy â?? is a health crisis in Nebraska. In fact, 63% of adults in Nebraska — seven out of every ten Nebraskan men and more than half of Nebraskan women — are overweight or obese. The state’s adult obesity rate increased in 2008 for the third year in a row. Rates of type 2 diabetes, a disease typically associated with obesity, increased in Nebraska again, as well.

We also have the undesirable distinction of being the least active people in the country, ranking 50th among the 50 states in fitness. And, our kids are suffering, too: 12 percent of Nebraskaâ??s children age 10-17 are overweight, according to a 2005 survey by the Data Resource Center on Child and Adolescent Health. As if that werenâ??t enough, obesity is even hitting our pocketbooks. The cost to our taxpayers for dealing with obesity-related illnesses is a staggering $454 million per year!

The facts are clear. Obesity is killing our state â?? physically and financially. Obviously, something has to be done.  But what?

Facing the Crisis

Healthy weight is calculated not in terms of poundage, but in terms of individual body mass index (BMI). BMI is calculated as weight in pounds x 703 / (height in inches)2

A person whose BMI is at least 25 is considered overweight; someone with a BMI of 30+ is medically obese.

There is no easy road to beating obesity. For some of us, willpower is enough to maintain a healthy diet and activity level. Others try losing weight via drugstore-paperback-type diets or so-called weight-loss pills. Neither is a realistic long-term solution to the problem. For most obese people, the best option is a medically-supervised program of gradual weight loss my means of dietary and lifestyle modification. Sadly, however, some obesity cases are too far advanced for this to work.

Fortunately, another option exists: weight loss surgery (also known as bariatric surgery).

Losing It

Surgical weight loss is a proven remedy for severe obesity and obesity-related health problems for individuals with a BMI of 35 or higher. By physically altering a patientâ??s stomach so that they can eat only small amounts of food at any given time, these surgeries enable the patient to lower their daily caloric intake and lose weight.

The surgery itself is only the beginning, however. Patients who fail to follow postoperative instructions may regain the weight they lost or reach a weight-loss plateau over time.

Weight loss surgery is a serious medical procedure that exposes the patient to low but significant risks. There is always the possibility of major postoperative complications, including anemia, ulcers, internal hernias, calcium deficiencies and gallstone. And, the decision to undergo most types of weight loss surgery is generally irrevocable. Those considering surgery for the management of obesity should consult with their physician before making a decision.

Letâ??s Do It!

Nebraskans can face this crisis, but only as a team. By keeping the goal of a healthier Cornhusker State in mind, we can overcome the problems caused by widespread obesity. Letâ??s do it!

Weâ??re in trouble, Kansas â?? heavy trouble. Thatâ??s â??heavyâ? as in obese. Obesity is the second leading cause of preventable death in the United States, and may lead to other life-threatening illnesses, like Type II Diabetes or heart disease. Yet, across our state the number of overweight and obese individuals is rapidly increasing. In the Sunflower State alone, more than 61% of adults are overweight or obese â?? and the cost to our taxpayers for dealing with obesity-related illnesses adds up to a staggering $195 million per year.

But what is obesity, exactly? Obesity is the condition of being significantly above a healthy weight, as determined by oneâ??s body mass index (BMI). A person with a BMI of at least 25 is considered overweight; and someone who has a BMI of 30 or above is considered obese.

Obesity in Kansas is more than just trouble. It is an epidemic â?? the most serious threat to public health currently extant. How can we stop it?

The Surgical Option

The fight against obesity can be a struggle. Many people attempt to lose weight by means of trendy diets, Spartan exercise programs, or special pills, shakes and powders. Some sufferers actually lose a lot weight this way, but the vast majority regain it quickly as soon as they discontinue their weight loss program â?? and many more do serious damage to their health in the process.

Another increasingly popular option is weight loss surgery. Numerous studies have shown that bariatric surgery is an effective means of minimizing or resolving obesity-related health problems for individuals who are severely or morbidly obese. It can also help people who struggle with their weight but have no co-morbidities achieve a healthy BMI and reduce the likelihood that they will develop weight-related health problems in the future.

About Weight Loss Surgery

There is no royal road to instant weight loss. The only way to lose excess weight is to reduce the bodyâ??s caloric intake below its daily caloric needs. When this happens, the body begins to draw upon stored energy (fat) to keep functioning. Weight loss surgery is a minimally invasive medical procedure intended to counter a patientâ??s obesity by limiting the amount of food â?? and thus calories â?? that he or she can consume.

Bariatric procedures are performed under general anesthesia, and most (though not all) are performed laparoscopically. The three main types of weight loss surgery are: malabsorptive (during which the patientâ??s intestinal tract is altered), restrictive (during which the surgeon creates a smaller stomach pouch that limits the amount of food needed for the patient to feel full), and combination (during which the surgeon creates a small stomach pouch and alters the patientâ??s intestinal tract). Each procedure entails different risks and benefits.

Considering Surgical Weight Loss

Weight loss surgery can be a true lifesaver, if the patient is willing to adopt comprehensive changes in diet and lifestyle along with the surgery as part of a total health-improvement plan. Patients who fail to follow postoperative instructions or who refuse to alter their unhealthy lifestyles will almost certainly regain weight lost over time.

Although it is an effective weapon in Kansasâ?? arsenal against obesity, weight loss surgery is no magic bullet. Those considering bariatric surgery as an option for the management of obesity should research their options and discuss with their physician the risks and possible outcomes of these procedures before making any decision.

Minnesota is known as â??the fittest state in the nationâ?. Our stateâ??s fine climate, its friendly folks, and its famous hot-dish hospitality combine to keep the overall health of Minnesotans well above the national norm. Sadly, however, we are below par in one important area of health: obesity. In fact, here in the North Star State, almost 61% of the population is overweight or obese.

And while looking bad is a consequence of obesity, itâ??s far from the worst. Obesity kills people, both by wrecking their health and by destroying their spirit. Elevated blood sugar levels and coronary problems aside, the shame and self-hatred felt by many of the obese can lead to serious psychological problems â?? even suicide.

Itâ??s beyond being just a problem. Itâ??s a crisis. Many scientists and physicians believe that the obesity epidemic is the most serious health threat facing the population of our state.

Dealing with Obesity

If obesity were just a matter of losing weight, there would be no problem. Once a personâ??s daily caloric intake drops below the level needed to sustain life, theyâ??ll lose weight â?? the laws of physics guarantee it.

But of course itâ??s not that simple. Yes, we eat too much â?? but why? Nothing in nature favors overeating, yet we do it anyway. If we could crack the secret of what makes people eat too much of the wrong foods, weâ??d be halfway to curing obesity.

Unfortunately, many Minnesotans try gimmicks in an attempt to slim down — fad diets, exercise programs, so-called weight-loss pills, etc.  Most of them quickly regain any lost weight later on. Yet many obese people ignore or are unaware of the best method of losing weight: a medically-supervised program of dietary changes and increased activity.  Experience has shown that such programs work well for most people who want to attain a healthy weight.

For some extremely obese people, of course, things are too far advanced for a 100% lifestyle-based obesity therapy.  Fortunately, another option exists: weight loss surgery.

Weight Loss Surgery

Surgical weight loss procedures â?? also known as bariatric surgery — have been proven to help ease â??or even cure â?? many co-morbidities, which are health conditions related to obesity. It can also help those who are obese but have no co-morbidities to reach their ideal weight, and guard against future health complications.

The three main types of weight loss surgery are malabsorptive, restrictive and combination surgery, each with different risks and benefits. Malabsorptive procedures alter the patientâ??s intestinal tract, changing the way the body absorbs food; restrictive procedures (e.g., the Lap-band and vertical banded gastroplasty procedures) create a small pouch that limits the amount of food a person can eat; and combination procedures, like the Roux-en-Y gastric bypass, create a small stomach pouch and alter the intestinal tract.

For those with morbid obesity, weight loss surgery can mean the difference between life and death. It is not, however, magic. Recovery from obesity is a whole-life process; patients who fail to alter their lifestyles after surgery may regain any weight lost.

Weight loss surgery is a serious step. The risks associated with these procedures are real, and should always be discussed beforehand in consultation with a physician.

Considering Surgical Weight Loss

Minnesota may be the fittest state in America â?? but it could become the fattest if we donâ??t change our relationship to food and by adopt healthier lifestyles. By working together we can keep Minnesota fit!

Many international patients are put off by the high prices in Europe and the US and are traveling to India to get the same treatment at vastly reduced cost of 60% or more. The benefits of doing this are huge. Price advantage is a major selling point. The slogan thus is, “First World treatment’ at Third World prices”. Cancer surgeries in Western countries cost three to four times as much as in India.  If you have never considered India for pancreatic cancer surgery; now is the time to start. The advantages make total sense – and the quality of the surgery is comparable with any hospital in Europe or the US. Price hospitals of pancreatic cancer surgery in India at Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai and Hyderabad are providing special assistance to international patients who are coming to india for their pancreatic cancer surgery.

The Pancreas

The pancreas is a gland located deep in the abdomen between the stomach and the spine (backbone). The liver, intestine, and other organs surround the pancreas. The pancreas is about 6 inches long and is shaped like a flat pear. The widest part of the pancreas is the head, the middle section is the body, and the thinnest part is the tail. The pancreas makes insulin and other hormones. These hormones enter the bloodstream and travel throughout the body. They help the body use or store the energy that comes from food. For example, insulin helps control the amount of sugar in the blood.

Understanding Cancer

Cancer is a group of many related diseases. All cancers begin in cells, the body’s basic unit of life. Cells make up tissues, and tissues make up the organs of the body. Normally, cells grow and divide to form new cells as the body needs them. When cells grow old and die, new cells take their place. Sometimes this orderly process breaks down. New cells form when the body does not need them, or old cells do not die when they should. These extra cells can form a mass of tissue called a growth or tumor.

Symptoms

Pancreatic cancer is sometimes called a “silent disease” because early pancreatic cancer often does not cause symptoms. But, as the cancer grows, symptoms may include:  Pain in the upper abdomen or upper back, Yellow skin and eyes, and dark urine from jaundice, Weakness, Loss of appetite, Nausea and vomiting, Weight loss. These symptoms are not sure signs of pancreatic cancer. An infection or other problem could also cause these symptoms. Only a doctor can diagnose the cause of a person’s symptoms. Anyone with these symptoms should see a doctor so that the doctor can treat any problem as early as possible

Pancreatic Cancer: Who’s at Risk?

No one knows the exact causes of pancreatic cancer. Doctors can seldom explain why one person gets pancreatic cancer and another does not. However, it is clear that this disease is not contagious. No one can “catch” cancer from another person.

Studies have found the following risk factors:

Age — The likelihood of developing pancreatic cancer increases with age. Most pancreatic cancers occur in people over the age of 60.

Smoking — Cigarette smokers are two or three times more likely than nonsmokers to develop pancreatic cancer.

Diabetes — Pancreatic cancer occurs more often in people who have diabetes than in people who do not.

Being male — More men than women are diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.

Being African American — African Americans are more likely than Asians, Hispanics, or whites to get pancreatic cancer.

Family history — The risk for developing pancreatic cancer triples if a person’s mother, father, sister, or brother had the disease. Also, a family history of colon or ovarian cancer increases the risk of pancreatic cancer.

Chronic pancreatitis — Chronic pancreatitis is a painful condition of the pancreas. Some evidence suggests that chronic pancreatitis may increase the risk of pancreatic cancer.

Pancreatic cancer surgery in India is in high demand by the US patients due to availability of world class cancer surgeons at very low cost with international medical healthcare facilities. Pancreatic Surgery in India brings patients from US and Europe to the country. The demand for cheap and efficient healthcare is drawing medical tourists from western countries to India for their surgeries. Desperate Americans, Canadians and British tourists lead the way for the growing medical tourism industry in India. Surgical procedures in India are charged at a mere fraction of the price for the same surgeries in the USA, making it much easier for uninsured families to manage expensive medical bills. . In fact, Indian doctors are considered to be among the best in the world and their high level of surgical expertise evolves from many years of training – after studying in India many doctors train and work in the UK and USA. The Healthcare Facilities in India are the most cost-effective in the world with private hospitals offering treatment at a fraction of the price of those in the USA, UK and Canada.

An epidemic is raging in our state: the obesity epidemic. Across South Dakota, the number of overweight and obese individuals is rapidly increasing. In the Mount Rushmore State almost 63% of adults are overweight or obese.

This epidemic is costing South Dakotans more than just their health – it’s costing them money. According to recent data from the U.S. Public Health Service Centers for Disease Control (CDC), the cost to the taxpayer for obesity-related expenditures in our state amounts to over $195 million annually.

And of course the costs of obesity are not limited to dollars and cents. People die from obesity (and related illnesses called co-morbidities) every day. Thousands of South Dakotans with diabetes, cancer, heart conditions, and hypertension suffer as a result these obesity-related illnesses.

Obesity Defined

A person who is significantly above their healthy weight is said to be obese.
Healthy weight is calculated in terms of individual body mass index (BMI), but actuarial tables generated from insurance industry statistics are used to determine the actual healthy weight in pounds for persons of various ages, builds, and heights. Your doctor can go over these data with you to determine if you are obese, clinically overweight, or at a healthy weight.

Many of those suffering from obesity have tried everything to lose weight – celebrity diets, brutal exercise regimens, even those snake-oil “medicines” advertised on late-night TV. Some who have tried these methods have lost weight, true, but many others have accomplished nothing other than ruining their health.

Gimmicks are not a safe weight loss option. The only safe way to lose weight is to eat less and become more physically active. Medically-supervised diet and lifestyle modification programs are the ideal way to do this. For some, however, education, counseling, support, and willpower are not enough. Weight loss surgery stands as their weapon of last resort in the war against obesity.

The Surgical Option

When all else fails, doctors can counter a patient’s obesity by physically limiting the amount of food – and thus calories – that he or she can consume. Surgical weight loss – also known as bariatric surgery — has been proven to help ease (and in some cases completely resolve) obesity-related health problems, as well as lessening their chances of developing weight-related health problems in the future. The procedures (there are three types) are performed under general anesthesia, most laparoscopically.

Making the decision

Weight loss surgery is not a cure-all for being fat. Patients must be prepared for a complete change in lifestyle for the surgery to have the desired long-term effect. Those patients who fail to follow postoperative instructions may regain any weight lost. These operations also involve certain risks, which include infection, nutritional deficiencies, ulcers, hernias, and gallstones. Obese patients should always consult with their physician before making any decision regarding surgical weight loss.

Considering Surgical Weight Loss

We South Dakotans are an individualistic people. Each of us must seek our own best method of staying at a healthy weight. For some, weight loss surgery is that method. We should each consider all the options, and then make an informed decision about our own strategy in the war on obesity in South Dakota.

Are you looking to lose weight? If you are, there is a good chance that you have heard of weight loss surgery before. Weight loss surgery is how many individuals lose weight. Although weight loss surgery has helped thousands of Americans lose weight, improve their appearance, and improve their health, weight loss surgery may not be for you.

When it comes to determining if weight loss surgery is right for you, there are a number of factors that you will need to take into consideration. One of those factors is your current weight. Most of the time, you will find that weight loss surgeons require their patients to be at least eighty pounds overweight. If you are not as overweight as recommend, you may not even be able to undergo a weight loss surgery. If that is the case, you should keep in mind that there are a number of different weight loss approaches that you can take.

Speaking of alternative weight loss methods, have you tried any other approaches? Many individuals are able to successfully lose weight with healthy eating, exercise, and weight loss products, like diet pills. While there are some individuals who opt for weight loss surgery right away, there are others who only use it as a last resort. Although weight loss surgery, like gastric bypass surgery or lap-band surgery, is more than worth it, you may be able to lose your excess weight without having to spend a large amount of money doing so.

Another factor that you should take into consideration, when determining if weight loss surgery is right for you, is your health. If you are overweight, have you been noticing any other health problems or has your doctor outlined the importance of losing weight for your health? If this has happened, you may not have a choice when it comes to undergoing weight loss surgery. For some individuals, weight loss surgery is, literally, lifesaving.

As it was previously mentioned, two popular weight loss surgeries include gastric bypass surgery and lap-band surgery. While there additional weight loss surgeries that you can undergo, these two are the most popular ones. The surgery that you would like to undergo is also important when determining whether or not weight loss surgery is your best option. For instance, gastric bypass surgery requires the stapling of the stomach, whereas lap-band surgery involves an adjustable or removable band. When deciding which weight loss surgery you should undergo, your decision will need to be made in conjunction with a healthcare professional.

When examining weight loss surgeries, you will find that most surgeries reduce the stomach pouch size. For that reason, your ability to follow all instructions given to you is important. After undergoing a weight loss surgery, like lap-band surgery or gastric bypass surgery, your healthcare professional will likely request that you develop yourself an exercise plan, as well as eat healthy. It is important that you follow all advice given to you. With weight loss surgeries that involve the reduction of the stomach pouch, an over consumption of food can be harmful to your weight loss, as well as dangerous to your health.

The above mentioned factors are factors that may help you determine whether or not weight loss surgery is right for you. As a reminder, it is important to remember that weight loss surgery is not your only option, when looking to lose weight, but it is a method that you should explore.

With a warm friendly ambience India can be an affordable, enjoyable, confidential, and safe alternative to penile cancer surgery done in USA and UK. Indian hospitals at the metro cities like Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai and Hyderabad provide low cost penile cancer surgery with the world class medical healthcare facilities. International patients feel safe in the hands of Indian doctors, because Indian doctors had proved them selves globally for their successful results. Penile cancer is a very rare form of cancer that occurs mostly in uncircumcised men (men with the foreskin, a piece of skin covering the head of their penis, intact). The penis is the external male genital organ, and consists of three chambers of spongy tissue that contain multiple blood vessels, nerves, and smooth muscle. The corpora cavernosa make up two of the chambers, and are located on both sides of the upper part of the penis. The corpus spongiosum is located below the corpora cavernosa and surrounds the urethra, the tube through which urine and semen exit the body at an opening called the meatus. At the tip of the penis, the corpora cavernosa expands to form the helmet, or glans. Number of international patients had got good results after having their penile cancer surgery in India.

The causes of penile cancer

The majority of penile cancers develop from flat, scale-like skin cells called squamous cells. Like most other forms of nonmelanoma skin cancer, these tumors tend to grow slowly and are usually preceded by precancerous changes that may last for several years. When detected in the early stages, these tumors can usually be cured. Squamous cell penile cancers can develop anywhere on the organ, but most develop on the foreskin (in men who have not been circumcised) or on the glands. A very rare type of penile cancer called adenocarcinoma can develop in thee sweat glands in the skin of the penis, while another small percentage of penile cancer can develop from melanoma. Melanomas are considered more dangerous because they grow and spread more quickly. Usually melanomas develop on sun-exposed areas of the skin, though occasionally they develop on other areas not likely to be sunburned. The remaining cases of penile cancers develop from the blood vessels, smooth muscle and other connective tissues of the penis.

The symptoms of penile cancer

The most common symptom of penile cancer is a tender spot or an open sore at the tip of the penis. If left untreated, it will spread slowly across the skin and invade deeper layers of tissue. Pain and bleeding may develop as the cancer continues to grow. Penile cancer can spread into the lymph nodes and through the lymphatic (infection-fighting) system, spreading to the groin and other parts of the body.

Self-care tips

If detected early, cure rates for penile cancer are high. Patients should look for abnormal growths that resemble warts or irritated patches of skin that develop on the head of the penis or foreskin. Often these growths are benign (not cancerous), but may evolve into penile cancer is left untreated.

Obesity — the condition of being significantly above oneâ??s healthy weight — is a health crisis in Alabama. Across our state, the number of overweight and obese individuals is rapidly increasing. In fact, almost 65% of the population of Alabama is overweight or obese. It is the second most common cause of preventable death in the United States, and may lead to life-threatening illnesses, called co-morbidities, such Type II diabetes, cancer, heart conditions, and hypertension.

Unsurprisingly, Alabama also leads the nation in adults suffering from high blood pressure, with 31% of Alabamians diagnosed with the condition compared to 24.9% nationally according to a 2002 study by the United States Centers for Disease Control (CDC),. And Alabama’s adult diabetes rate of 10.5% was the highest in America, more than double the 5% rate in 50th-ranked Minnesota.

Getting Fit

Something has to be done to stop the epidemic of obesity in our state. Unfortunately, obesity can be one of the most difficult diseases to treat. Weight loss itself is a simple matter: once a personâ??s daily caloric intake falls below the number of calories needed, the body begins to burn fat to stay alive, resulting in weight loss. The difficulty comes in restricting caloric intake â?? the primal urge to eat when hungry is almost irresistible.

Many people who suffer from obesity also have disordered relationships with food, consuming food  to quell uncomfortable emotions rather than for nutrition or the pleasure of eating. In fact, many among the obese in our state are food addicts, plagued by a constant desire to eat even when they are not hungry.

Obesity is not a character flaw. It is a medical condition requiring medical treatment. Sadly, the pain and emotional trauma of obesity often leads those with the disease to attempt self-treatment. Many obese persons try to lose their excess weight by means of gimmicks, fad diets, exercise programs, or so-called weight-loss pills.  These efforts lead some to lose significant weight, but most quickly regain it after they discontinue their weight loss program. Many people suffer damage to their health as a result of such quickie â??curesâ?.

No miracle cure for obesity exists. The only way to successfully treat the disease of obesity is through medical care, based upon a complete change in the patientâ??s lifestyle and eating habits. To beat obesity we must change the way Alabamans think about and relate to food, enabling us to eat better food and less of it.

For most of us, education, counseling, support, and willpower are enough to accomplish this. For the rest, another option exists: weight loss surgery.

About Weight Loss Surgery

Weight loss surgery is performed under general anesthesia. Most procedures are performed laparoscopically, though some may need to be performed through open surgery. The three main types of weight loss surgery are malabsorptive, restrictive, and combination, each with different risks and benefits. In each, however, the principle is the same: to surgically alter the patientâ??s stomach and/or digestive tract in order to physically limit the amount of food the patient can eat at a given time. If successful, the surgical alterations will cause the patient to take in fewer calories each day than he or she burns, resulting in steady, safe weight loss.

Weight loss surgery can be a true lifesaver. However, it is not a magic cure for obesity; only a complete change in the patientâ??s lifestyle and relationship to food can cure the disease. Patients who fail to follow postoperative instructions may regain any weight lost or reach a weight-loss plateau over time. The decision to undergo weight loss surgery is also irrevocable; currently, only the Lap-band procedure is reversible.

Those considering bariatric surgery as an option for the management of obesity should carefully weigh the risks and possible outcomes of these procedures in consultation with their physician prior to making a decision.

Alabama can win the war on obesity, but it will take time, money, and the will to win. By educating ourselves, supporting one another, and using weight loss surgery as a weapon of last resort, we can make our state healthier, happier, and a better place in which to live.

Many people come to India for bone cancer surgery or the rejuvenation promised by yoga and Ayurveda.

Bone cancer & its types:

Primary bone cancer
Secondary bone cancer

Primary bone cancer refers to cancers which start in the bone. These are different to secondary bone cancers which started in other parts of the body and later spread to the bones. Bone cancers are tumours which have the potential to spread to other parts of the body. These are different to benign (non-cancerous) bone tumours which do not spread. Benign bone tumours are more common than malignant (cancerous) bone tumours.

Secondary bone cancer is where malignant cells have spread to the bones from other parts of the body. This is different to cancer that actually started in the bones (primary bone cancer). Virtually all types of cancer can spread to bone. Bone metastases are particularly common in people with breast, lung or prostate cancer. Bone metastases are usually multiple, they cause pain and can can lead to other symptoms such as hypercalcemia (abnormally high levels of calcium in the blood )

What is the treatment for bone cancer ?

Treatment will depend on the type of cancer, whether it has spread or not , and the size and location of the main (primary) tumour. Treatment of bone cancers is complex and involves a team of different specialists usually within an institution that is experienced in treating these types of cancers. There are 3 main types of therapy used to treat bone cancers;
surgery (to take out the tumour in an operation)
radiotherapy (using high-dose x-rays to kill cancer cells)
chemotherapy (using drugs to kill cancer cells)
Surgery is often used to remove the primary tumour. For tumours of the arms and legs an amputation of the limb is sometimes necessary, however, limb-sparing surgery may be possible in many cases where only the cancerous part of the bone is removed and it is replaced by a bone graft or metal prosthesis. Radiotherapy may be given as well as or instead of surgery to destroy the cancer cells. Also, chemotherapy (drugs) may also be given to kill malignant cells that may be circulating around the body.

The cost for the surgery depends on the surgeon. Oftentimes, patients choose their surgeon on the basis of price. The cost of bone cancer surgery in India is very affordable and is much lower when compared to the United States, UK and other countries.

Forms of HPV, a virus whose different types cause skin warts, genital warts, and other abnormal skin and body surface disorders, have been shown to lead to many of the changes in cervical cells that may eventually lead to cancer.

Genetic material that comes from certain forms of HPV has been found in cervical tissues that show cancerous or precancerous changes.

In addition, women who have been diagnosed with HPV are more likely to develop a cervical cancer that has genetic material matching the strain of virus that caused the infection.

These findings demonstrate a strong link between the virus and cervical cancer.

Because HPV can be transmitted by sexual contact, early sexual contact and having multiple sexual partners have been identified as strong risk factors for the development of cervical lesions that may progress to cancer.

Cigarette smoking is another risk factor for the development of cervical cancer. The chemicals in cigarette smoke interact with the cells of the cervix, causing precancerous changes that may over time progress to cancer.

Oral contraceptives (“the pill”) may increase the risk for cervical cancer, especially in women who use oral contraceptives for longer than 5 years.

Cervical Cancer Treatment

Treatment of cervical cancer is directed at preventing precancerous cells from becoming cancerous cells.

This is usually a step-by-step process, involving the removal of cells or tissue to diagnose cancer and to find out how far it has invaded.
If the deepest cells removed by biopsy were normal, no further treatment may be needed.
If the deepest cells removed by biopsy were cancerous or precancerous, this means the cancer has invaded farther than the biopsy. In these cases, treatment generally starts with removal of additional tissues. As these tissues are removed, they are checked for dysplastic change to be sure all the precancerous or cancerous cells have been removed from the body or are otherwise destroyed.

What is Body lift surgery?

Body lift surgery is an extremely effective procedure for patients with excess skin resulting from weight loss. Depending on the location of the excess skin, patients may choose to undergo either an upper, mid or lower body lift. For patients with significant amounts of excess skin though the midsection, lower body and extremities, a combination of these techniques, called the full or total body lift surgery may be the best option. Body lift surgery is especially beneficial for women who have undergone stomach stapling (or Bariatric surgery) or for women who have been left with an excess of loose and sagging skin due to weight loss or pregnancy.

Types of Body lift surgery:

The type of Body lift surgery you choose will greatly depend upon the location of the excess skin on your body, as well as your overall aesthetic goals. Your plastic surgeon can focus on a specific part of your body, as is done in an arm lift or a thigh lift or take a more inclusive approach and treat a larger area all at once.

Central body lift – This procedure is also called Belt Lipectomy. In Central Body Lift surgery, excess skin and fatty tissue is removed circumferentially from the belly, hips, back, buttocks and outer thighs.
Lower body lift – Lower Body Lift is performed to shape buttocks and thighs by removing excess skin and fat from these areas.
Total body lift – Total Body lift surgery is helpful for patients who have lost skin elasticity all over their body. Total body lifts address every part of the body that commonly accumulates fat and surplus skin: arms, breasts, abdomen, hips, thighs and buttocks can all be recontoured to achieve a smooth, trim and lifted appearance.

Who should consider Body lift surgery?

If you have lost large amounts of weight and have loose, hanging skin on your face, breasts, back, belly and thighs you can certainly go for Body lift surgery. It can also be undertaken to counter the effects of ageing and multiple pregnancies. The skin often stretches to such a degree during weight retention that even when the excess fat is gone, the skin remains in its enormous state. At times the physical discomfort and appearance of this extra skin causes more embarrassment than the initial weight. Persons wishing to remove such skin and tailor their body to a more natural shape are perfect candidates for a Body lift surgery.

Benefits of Body lift surgery:

Body lift is very similar to a science-fiction film where characters vanish. Your fate would be less than that, as only your wrinkles and loose skin will disappear with Body lift surgery. It is a revolutionary surgical procedure that quickly, safely and effectively improves the shape and tone of your body. After having Body lift surgery you can get back your self confidence and normality in your life. It is a way to get started with the beauty and self esteem that you have always dreamed of.

Those individuals with flaccidity on the face and other body areas are the right candidates for undertaking this surgical procedure. There is however an important condition, that one should be in good health.

Eliminate Sagging Skin through Advanced Cosmetic Surgery

Body lift cosmetic surgery is carried out after providing general anesthesia for the patient. The normal duration of the surgery is around five to seven hours. This might vary according to the other cosmetic procedures done along with this procedure.

The body lift procedure is carried out in three stages. During the initial stage the excess skin from the belly area is detached and the abdominal muscles are tightened. After repositioning the belly button, stitches are applied on the incisions. In the next phase, incisions are made on your back portion and buttocks so as to trim down the additional skin and eliminate fat deposits in that particular area. In the last phase, the surgeon will remove the flabby skin on the arms. Thus by removing all the excess skin, the surgeon will help you reclaim your youthful appearance.

Important Points to Keep in Mind

After undergoing the treatment the patients can return to their normal activities within four to six weeks. It is not necessary to remove the stitches as these are provided under the skin and are dissolvable. After the process the patients might experience minor side effects such as redness, bleeding, pain, infection and inflammation.
