Lifestyle

In every human body the secretion of insulin and glycogen controls blood sugar level but the disturbance in hormone secretion causes high glucose level in the body.

Types and symptoms

Diabetes is of three types that include type 1 diabetes and type 2 diabetes. Due to this disease the body starts using fats and proteins as energy source as the glucose breakdown process stops completely. The patient shows some symptoms like poluria due to which the person urinate frequently, polydipsia causes increase in thirst and desire for consequent fluid intake, polyphegia relates with increased appetite as the person feels more and more hungry and even excessive weight loss. In type I diabetes the symptoms develop quickly whereas in type 2 the symptoms are much slow.

Some severe conditions

The extreme case of diabetes ketoacidosis is characterized by the smell of acetone in the breath of the patient, polyuria, vomiting, nausea and abdominal pain. This medical emergency situation is treated in hospital as it can be lethal in some cases. Another severe condition in diabetes is hyperosmolar nonketotic state due to loss of body water as the patient has the habit of drinking sugar-containing drinks.

Genetics

Diabetes is partly inherited from generation to generation but by proper diabetes control methods it can be prevented. The mutated genes of diabetes are carried by some people that causes MODY which is maturity onset diabetes of the young. These genes got triggered by some viral infection, stress or drugs so correct diabetes treatment is required for such patient.

Prevention

The risk of diabetes can be suppressed and prevented by changing the diet and increasing the physical activity. The suspected individual should eat good amount of whole grains and sugar. Even by giving children Vitamin D or some diabetic supplements in their first year of life also reduces the risk of type 1 diabetes. Even breastfeeding act as good prevention of type 2 diabetes in the mothers. Through prophylactic usage of rosiglitazone, metformin and valsartan, the diabetes in predisposed patients is delayed and is a good method for diabetes control.

Diabetes Treatment

Diabetes mellitus is a chronic disease which can’t be cured permanently but there are some methods for diabetes control and diabetes treatment. By dietic support, self glucose monitoring, sensible exercise and patient education any patient can control blood sugar and maintain the glucose level in the body. As the disease is associated with higher risks of cardiovascular disease so lifestyle should be modified for diabetes control so as to control blood pressure and cholesterol. The patient should cess the habit of smoking, wear diabetic socks and consumes correct diet. Even by the usage of diabetes supplements and insulin the glucose level can be controlled. Even a blood lancet is used to draw out the blood sample and check the sugar level in it.

Fresh air, sunshine, healthy food and water are the essential things that we need in order to live a healthy lifestyle. So I have list top 10 things to achieve a healthy lifestyle.

1. FRESH AIR – Oxygen, feeds, nourishes us. Make our lives count for the future and our blue-green Planet’s pure air. Walk gently, breathe in now, full, deep, strong, long. Breath in fully to get oxygen, nourish and cleanse. Exhale long and deep, let go of toxins, old emotions, and all being held onto. Let go. Let go… Fear slows the breath. Renew commitment to inhale deeply, exhale long. Hold. Do it again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again…

2. SUNSHINE – Plants take in sunlight and so do we. Get outdoors, take off glasses, don’t overdo it. Call it Yummy – when it’s Sunny – smile, play and dance in the light… Sunshine’s full spectrum of natural daylight stimulates our pineal and pituitary glands to rev up the metabolism, makes it churn and burn. Did someone convince us sunshine is dangerous? Even shady, full spectrum natural daylight helps us be healthy and vibrant; go – no glasses, outdoors.

3. WATER – Drink in the cleanest, most alive water you can find. (Would you take a bath in fruit juice, soda or beer? Yukk!) Carry your own bottle! Fill. Drink. Repeat. Would you take a bath in diet soda? Hope not. Cells love water; like a flooding stream, it carries the silt out to the sea. Get your own bottle! We’re 78% water. Wow. You’d think water needs to refresh itself at a cellular level pretty darn often. Get your own bottle. Cleanse, refresh.

4. MOVEMENT – Life is Movement / Movement is Life. Dance, sing, play, walk, run, skip, ride, hike, ski, sail… how many more can you think of??? Being sedentary is like inertia. Hard to get going again, but once you do, don’t stop. Find a way to move: walk the dog, stretch, dance, play catch… It can be gentle and slow or it can be fast and quick. The body needs movement to circulate its life force, to get out the toxins, to assimilate.

5. PREDOMINANTLY VEGAN DIET – We do not have carnivore teeth. Our long intestinal loves fibrous plant food; be lean and nourished into good health with *vegan foods, grow younger. Our digestive system was made for high fiber fruits, vegetables and grains. Once we clean out the residue from old habits, our tastes change. To his great surprise, Dr. Max Gerson, while pursuing a cure for migraines in the 1950s, discovered that a mostly vegan diet cured cancer!

6. EAT AT LEAST 50% LIVING, RAW FOOD – Turn your yard into a garden -grow non-gmo seeds, buy organic, safely pick wild, sprout. Know where your food comes from – be a thriver, not just a survivor! First 7 days sprouted foods have more enzymes and life force than anything else. You’ll be amazed at how good eating them makes you feel! Living foods are different than raw foods. For instance lettuce is a mature raw food. Sprouted seeds are living. Eat ’em both for Life!

7. ORGANIC WHOLE FOODS – Clear your grocery list of all but Whole foods. How much is left? “No whites” is a good start; whole means NO processing. Get really radical, go “cold turkey”! Whole means just like it grew or is growing. Organic means no pesticides and living soil. Hunger disappears when we eat food w/real nutrient value. Every time food gets processed it loses something: vitamins, minerals, life force. If you want to get really radical go organic/natural- feel the difference!

8. LIMIT ANIMAL PROTEIN TO 7% MAX – The landmark book, China Study shows ALL, ALL Degenerative Conditions are either Eliminated or Reversed with a maximum of 7% animal foods in the diet. For 35 yr. China Study found elimination and reversal of every degenerative condition (including obesity) with a veggie diet max 7% animal food. The China Study concluded all degenerative conditions could either be eliminated or reversed with a maximum of 7% animal protein in the diet.

9. MODERATION – EAT SMALL QUANTITIES – We live in an age of “too much”. Learn to love being hungry and have less: 3 small meals/day, 5 hrs. between, 12 hrs. empty at night, body purrrrzzzzz… Let the body know we’re not in starvation: eat 3 moderate meals/day with 5 hrs. btwn.; 12 hrs. empty stomach at night; green shake for Breakfast. Mastering Leptin tells us there’s a chronic state of inflammation in the body when we overeat; eat small – rest between, to gradually shift this.

10. MORE GRATTITUDE / LESS ATTITUDE – These things initiate healing at the deepest levels of our being, and radiate forth into the world as our “radio signal”. Know our creative power. Emotions generate the energy surrounding and coming to us. Love yourself just as you are. Soon everything will melt away, but love. Get help to release old emotions conscious and otherwise. Trust yourself to find Love in all things, to be fully evolving towards Wholeness.

A balanced diet and regular exercise are healthy lifestyles which can bring on strong body, as well as fine vision. In opposite, smoking and excessive drinking are regarded as the killer of body health, and it is the same to the eye health. People who smoke or drink a lot always have poor vision when getting old.

However, there are some conditions which you can not avoid by careful eye care and healthy lifestyle. They are born naturally. You can only do some eye care to maintain your vision, preventing it not to become worse. Hyperopia is one kind of this problem, which is caused by weak eye muscles, flat cornea or short eyes. People with this problem do not have round eyes and are difficult in focusing on the near objects. The other problem is myopia, which is in contrast to hyperopia. This problem is caused by weak eye muscles, or long eyes. People with this problem have too round eyes and are difficult in focusing on the far objects.

Yet most of the eye conditions are not genetic. You can do a lot of things to maintain good eyesight by a healthy lifestyle. Firstly, the unsuitable weather, such as too windy or too dry, causes the eye not to create enough tears or the tears to evaporate too quickly. That is the so-called dry eye. You can not change your surrounding environment, but you can use the eye drops to lubricate eyes. Secondly, the great pressure to eyes will have an influence on the optic nerve located at the back of eyes, making you brain painful. That is glaucoma. You can have a rest if you feel strained to make your muscles relaxing. Next, the aging problem will lead to presbyopia, which is different to hyperopia, though both symptoms are unable to focus on the close up objects, presbyopia is not genetic. This problem is mostly noticed at the age of 40 to 50. You can take good care of your eyes to postpone the problems by regular exercise or balanced diet.

Most of people are born with excellent eyesight. The hectic and busy life or the bad diet habits deteriorate the eye condition. If you do cherish your eyesight, you must live a balanced and healthy life, and at the same time follow the dos and don’ts on eye protection following your optometrist’s suggestion.

Cosmetic surgery has real health and emotional benefits for patients. However, in spite of plastic surgery’s increasing popularity, it’s not a good option for everyone. In 2004 the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS) warned that “some individuals seeking cosmetic surgery are considered poor candidates because of specific lifestyle factors that can seriously impact their safety in the operating room and during recovery.”

These factors may lead plastic surgeons to delay or even deny treatment to some patients.

Patient Evaluation Is Necessary Before Plastic Surgery

Dallas plastic surgeon Dr. Fred Hackney explains that a discussion of lifestyle factors and medical history is an important part of the patient evaluation process.

“Board certified plastic surgeons are concerned foremost about patient safety,” Dr. Hackney says, “Lifestyle factors like smoking, lack of exercise, diet, weight and their preexisting medical problems effect a person’s overall health and can increase the possibility of complications after surgery.”

Lifestyle factors that might affect a surgeon’s recommendation include:

– Smoking habits – including exposure to secondhand smoke. Nicotine and carbon dioxide impair the body’s healing ability by decreasing the blood supply to the skin and deeper tissues. They also affect pulmonary health, which can lead to surgical complications. Many plastic surgeons require patients to stop smoking for a certain period before surgery.

A 2002 survey from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center found that about 45% of board-certified plastic surgeons limit the types of procedures they perform on smokers.

– Current weight and history of weight fluctuations. A good candidate for surgery is within 30% of his or her ideal weight. Another measure of fitness for surgery is the body mass index. (BMI). A BMI of 30 is considered obese. Obesity may affect healing both before and after surgery.

– Alcohol consumption. Excessive alcohol consumption can affect liver function and increase the likelihood of surgical complications. Alcohol consumption can also affect overall appearance. A 2009 study of twins’ physical appearance by Cleveland plastic surgeon, Dr. Bahman Guyuron, found that “the twin who avoided alcohol looked significantly younger.”

– Sun exposure. Like alcohol consumption, sun exposure can affect physical appearance and skin health. The same study by Dr. Guyuron found: “The more time a twin spent in the sun, in outdoor activity and without sunscreen, the older she looked.” Sun exposure can affect the long-term results of cosmetic surgery; it’s important for patients to protect their skin before and after a procedure.

– Sleep patterns. Americans are chronically sleep-deprived, according to the U. S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. That has wide-ranging health consequences and affects a patient’s suitability for plastic surgery.

According to the CDC, “Not getting enough sleep has been tied to mental distress, depression, anxiety, obesity, hypertension, diabetes, high cholesterol and certain risk behaviors including cigarette smoking, physical inactivity and heavy drinking.”

A plastic surgeon may refer a patient for treatment of sleep disorders – such as sleep apnea and chronic insomnia – before scheduling cosmetic surgery.

– Stress levels and coping mechanisms. Chronic stress affects a person’s physical and mental health. The Mayo Clinic lists a number of physical conditions that can result from stress, including: heart disease, high blood pressure, and decreased immunity. It’s important for patients to find healthy ways to manage and reduce stress before surgery.

Board-certified plastic surgeons will discuss all this and more before scheduling cosmetic surgery. It’s an integral part of determining whether the requested procedure will be safe and effective. During your consultation, remember that no one is being judgmental.

Instead, your doctor is simply doing his job: making your health and safety his first priority.

High blood pressure, or hypertension, is a precursor to heart disease. It can lead to heart attack, heart failure, kidney failure, stroke or premature death if not controlled. Approximately only 25% of Americans diagnosed with high blood pressure actually have their blood pressure under control. Medication can improve blood pressure. There are also other tips for lowering blood pressure that can be easily practiced.

Exercise is one way of counteracting the detrimental effects of high blood pressure. Vigorous exercise stimulates the production of nitric oxide, which is a substance that keeps the blood vessels open. In the long run, this helps in lowering blood pressure. It is recommended that 30 minutes of exercise at least 5 times weekly will greatly aid in managing blood pressure and reducing excess weight.

It goes without saying that you are what you eat. Aside from getting enough exercise, the biggest change you can make is your diet. This goes a long way in preventing high blood pressure and lowering blood pressure that is already elevated. First, stop reaching for that salt shaker! Avoid processed food as far as possible. Increase consumption of fresh vegetables, fruits and grains. The goal is to eat foods low in fat and high in fiber and minerals while cutting down on red meats, sugar and salt.

If you want to live a healthy life free of hypertension and its complications, quitting smoking and heavy drinking is the way to go. Heavy drinking contributes to high blood pressure because alcohol actually impedes blood flow to and from the heart. Reducing alcohol has a direct effect of reducing an elevated blood pressure. Smoking actually causes your blood vessels to constrict, which also leads to increased blood pressure. It may be difficult to quit smoking, but those who do live healthier lives and have a lower risk of developing cancer!

Making small changes can gradually add up to a healthier you, so there’s no excuse not to stub out that cigarette today.

Although all of the genetic and environmental factors are important to consider, the overwhelming evidence is that breast cancer is related to lifestyle. The following paragraphs outline the negative impact and positive impact on breast cancer of several common lifestyle related issues.

Post-menopausal Obesity Increases Risk: Despite the evidence on the protective effect of pre-menopausal obesity on pre-menopausal breast cancer, the evidence that obesity increases the risk of post-menopausal breast cancer is very clear and not debatable. Some have suggested that tumors are harder to find by physical exam and mammography in obese women. This theory has largely been disproved in studies looking at mammography sensitivity and specificity, as well as studies looking at breast exam diagnosis in obese patients. If the correlation between obesity and cancer mortality is entirely causal, some scientists even estimate that an overweight condition and/or obesity now may account for one in seven of cancer deaths in men and one in five in women in the US.

High Fat Diet and Breast Cancer: Although breast cancer publications and the media have promulgated the idea that a low fat diet reduces cancer risk, most clinical trials have not successfully demonstrated this direct beneficial effect. There have been several methodological explanations for this failure. However, the reverse observation that a high fat diet increases breast cancer risk remains solid. For example, a large study funded by the National Institute of Health looked at 188,736 postmenopausal women and fat intake, based on both “food frequency questionnaires” and “24-hour dietary recall questionnaires”. With the food frequency questionnaires, researchers found that women who got 40% of their calories from fat had about a 15% increased risk of developing breast cancer compared with women who got 20% of their calories from fat. With the “24-hour dietary recall questionaire”, they found a 32% increased risk of breast cancer among women with a high level of fat in their diet.

Alcohol: Based on scientific evidence, exposure to alcohol is associated with increased breast cancer risk in a dose-dependent fashion. Even less than one drink/day on a daily basis can be associated with up to a 30% increase in breast cancer mortality among postmenopausal women compared to non-drinkers. The risk may increase by 7% for each drink per day. Studies have shown that stopping alcohol use may reverse this risk.

Exercise: Exercise has been consistently linked with reduced breast cancer risk. A regimen of approximately 30 minutes per day of moderate-intensity exercise should be adequate, and perhaps even one to two hours per week is enough to be helpful. It appears that longer duration and greater intensity of activity may bring even more health benefits.

Supplements: Americans spend billions of dollars on vitamins and mineral supplements. Recent large studies, however, have demonstrated that these pills and capsules do not decrease the risk of many types of cancer. One explanation is that as long as one is not deficient of any particular vitamin or mineral, ingestion of super-normal levels of supplements does not help. Many women have low levels of vitamin D, and some data have shown that increasing its level (whether in a pill or by sun exposure) can protect somewhat against future breast cancer. In our opinion, botanical dietary supplements derived from green tea extracts represent a potentially widely available method for reducing the risk of breast cancer. Next to water, tea is the most widely consumed beverage in the world, and its ingestion in reasonable doses is considered safe. Many population observation reports have shown that green tea may decrease the risk of breast cancer.

1. Nutrition – Can make the difference of life or death. Vital nutrients and substances from fruits and vegetables fuel and infuse the body to operate in optimum health. Think about “health food” as being the opposite of “death food.” Eat more fruits and vegetables, low fat proteins and whole grains. Our bodies evolved from a cave man style dinner table. Eat more like him.

2. Walk or Bike for Transportation – With the high cost of gas and increased global climate change, it makes only sense to me that we walk and bike to our destinations. The financial cost is much less and we will be getting vital exercise (needed for optimal health) and help save the planet. While all the while we will be providing our own transportation. Look at the Orient. People have been biking there forever and so should we. New road construction should always include a safe bike/walk lane.

3. Gardening – Gardening has multi-fold advantages for better health. We should grow as much of our own food as space allows, providing organic nutrient rich fruits and vegetables for our tables. Plus, the process of gardening involves physical activity which is beneficial for our bodies.

4. Education – Knowledge is power. Our local libraries provide everything we need to know to create a healthy lifestyle for our families. From cookbooks to exercise manuals, you can find it all there. If knowledge is power, then I encourage everybody to read, study and apply.

5. Move Your Home – Move near parks and trails where staying active is planned into the community. When it came time for my family to downsize, we decided we wanted to be near the 5 mile trail system in our city which provides us the opportunity to walk, bike, skate and kayak, right in our own neighborhood. Purposefully finding ways to stay active and incorporating exercise into our daily lives should be a priority. Make it yours, today.

6. Regular Doctor Checkups – Again, knowledge is power. Getting regular checkups can provide you with the information about your current state of health. You and your doctor can monitor your blood pressure, cholesterol and glucose readings and keep an eye out for any immerging problems with preventative diagnostic tests such as mammographys and prostate checks.

7. Get a Good Nights Sleep – Sleeping works to keep your body healthy by maintaining a strong immune system. It slows aging, helps prevent diabetes, helps to keep you slim by stimulating more appetite suppressing leptin. It improves brain performance and increases your happiness quotient, reducing the risk of depression, alcoholism and suicide.

8. Don’t Smoke – Within the last 40 years, evidence has proven that smoking damages the human body. Smoking contributes to heart disease and increased incidences of cancers of the lungs and digestive system. If you don’t smoke, don’t start. The addiction is real. If you do smoke, stop. Chances are good that any preliminary damage may be healed and eliminated after 10 years of not smoking.

9. Make the Definitive Decision – Decide for better health. The conscious decision “I am going to do whatever it takes to get as healthy as possible,” is something each one of us must do. It will take time and energy to implement, but first, you must “Make the Decision.”

Health and wellness products are used to take care of the body and mind by managing stress, aiding healthy eating habits, as well as maintaining a safe environment.

When someone speaks of wellness, they are referring to what is called “alternative medicine,” which deals with the state of being healthy and health-conscious.

Well Being

When determining the well being of a person, many factors are taken into consideration. Some of these factors include nutrition, disease prevention, environmental influences, as well as public health issues.

There are health and wellness products on the market that explore and achieve this sense of well-being which alternative medicine offers.

Health and wellness products are based upon the idea and practice that the body as a whole should be taken care of after the basic living necessities are in order. This concept of wellness was developed into a popular concern during the late 19th century. This came at a time when the public began to place emphasis on self-improvement.

Many early health and wellness products were considered simple items like toothpaste, mouthwash and certain cereals, which were marketed as such at that time.

Blood pressure machines, cholesterol tests and glucose meters can also be considered a health and wellness product because they monitor some of the body’s overall state of health. Other health and wellness products include vitamins or items which avoid certain food elements that have been proven to lower a person’s well being.

Preventive Health Care

There are some people who wish to follow a variety of preventive health care methods, including homeopathy, as well as herbal medicine, which provides an array of different health and wellness product options. These practices are considered alternative because there is no concrete scientific evidence to prove whether these methods are effective.

Jewelry

Some health and wellness products can come in the form of jewelry, such as Balance Bracelets, which are supposed to decrease pain, as well as increase energy.

To ease joint pain, some will turn to the use of copper bracelets, rings and anklets for treating the discomfort caused by arthritis and tendonitis.

Another health and wellness product utilizes magnetic therapy, which can be found in the form of bracelets, rings, necklaces, bangles, as well as magnetic wraps.

Healing Energy

Plenty of health and wellness products can be found on the Internet that embraces the concept of Reiki healing energy. There are items include transformational beeswax ear candles, which are made up of herbs, flower essences and crystals. Some people use this form of alternative medicine to increase the strength of their aura.

Other health and wellness products that are available include:

· Light Therapy Products, such as portable desk lamps that offer a person 10,000 lux of diffused light that can be used to treat seasonal conditions.

· Herbal Supplements, including kava, ginseng, noni juice and energy drinks.

· Gemstone Therapy Products, including jewelry and crystals for the purpose of healing, as well as psychic enhancement purposes.
