Gary Federico, president of Sacramento based beauty school, Federico Beauty Institute, will be honored today at the Clean Air Awards Luncheon at the Sheraton Grand Sacramento, hosted by Breathe California of Sacramento-Emigrant Trails. The annual event coincides with May as Clean Air Month and recognizes how people, businesses, organizations and government agencies can take action to improve air quality.

Sacramento, CA (PRWeb) May 7, 2008 — The beauty of improving air quality is that every person, and every business, can make an effective difference. Gary Federico understands that and is the 2008 Business Clean Air Champion for maximizing energy efficiency at the Federico Beauty Institute.

With air quality in the Sacramento area among the nation’s worst, it is the one environmental issue affecting every single resident in the region. That also means that the solution depends on everyone doing their part to reduce air pollution.

Federico partnered with the Sacramento Municipal Utility District to install a photovoltaic carport system and implemented a full recycle program for paper and plastics. Lighting has been changed to energy-efficient Compact Fluorescent Lights (CFLs) and occupancy sensors have been installed to eliminate energy waste. The heating and air conditioning system is also managed by a control system to ensure optimum efficiency.

Federico Beauty Institute’s use of solar power will reduce CO2 emissions by 165,643 pounds, or remove the equivalent of about 14 passenger cars from the roadways every year.

“The Sacramento community benefits when a business such as the Federico Beauty Institute sets an example by buying and promoting technology that produces clean energy and reduces energy usage,” said Michelle Seeberger, of the Sacramento Municipal Utility District.

“Federico’s winning the award proves that the size of a business has nothing to do with its ability to take effective action toward cleaning our air,” said Kori Titus, spokeswoman for Breathe California of Sacramento-Emigrant Trails.

“Gary Federico proves that small businesses could make a huge difference if enough owners act in unison to save our environment and spare our air,” Titus said.

The Federico Beauty Institute is among six Clean Air Champions honored by Breathe California May 7.

Federico Beauty Institute Selected As Top US School For Student

Lauren DeQuirozâ??s journey to Federico Beauty Institute took a couple of detoursâ?¦but those detours were invaluable life lessons that led to a very positive outcome.

Although Lauren always knew she wanted to go to beauty school, she also felt it was important to experience college life.  Lauren attended University of Colorado, Boulder for two years before pursuing her dream to become a hair stylist.

Lauren enrolled in an 1800-hour Cosmetology program at a franchise school in the Denver area.  But a third of the way through the program, Lauren knew the school was not right for her. She observed very quickly that the schoolâ??s curriculum didnâ??t include materials or student exercises on what it takes to pass the State Boards (Licensure is a requirement to practice Cosmetology in most States).

Finding the Right Pivot Point School

Lauren began her search for a beauty school that met her requirementsâ?¦.a combination of hands-on, real-life practical training in a salon-like environment coupled with a curriculum consisting of rigorous â??drillsâ? for students on passing the State Boards.  A third factor — locating a school that taught the Pivot Point curriculum â?? was equally important.

Lauren had become familiar with Pivot Point at the beauty school in Denver.  Pivot Point equipment, like tripods, was used at the school along with Pivot Pointâ??s book, â??Salon Fundamentals.â?Â Â  Lauren asked and soon learned that the Denver school WAS NOT Pivot Point Certified, and had no plans to change their curriculum in the future.

She began an extensive research project to find the right beauty school that met her criteria.  She spent a lot of time on the Pivot Point Academy website and became sold on the Pivot Point hair and skin care education.

Weâ??ll teach you to see, think, create and adapt as a designer â?? not just duplicate the latest fashion trends â?? but to be the innovator of these trends.  Pivot Point website

Narrowing her search to a handful of beauty schools, Lauren found Federicoâ??s website especially engaging and well-organized.  â??I especially liked Gary Federicoâ??s video,â? she commented.  http://www.federico.edu/corporate-video

 Equally impressive was Federicoâ??s responsiveness.  Lauren said, â??Most schools I called werenâ??t very helpful or willing to quickly send me the information I needed to make a decision.  Federico was very proactive…sending me the information I requested right away, then communicating with me via email on a daily basis.

The final step was a campus tour of Federicoâ??s Sacramento campus.  Lauren found the staff even more personable and helpful than they were on the phone.  She liked the fact that the main office was on site and everyone she needed to meet with â?? admissions, financial services, career services â?? was in the same building.

The following factors â??sealed the dealâ? for Lauren:

1)    Federico has been in the beauty school business for over 60 years;

2)    Federico is a Pivot Point International member school;

3)    According to the Federicoâ??s catalog, the schoolâ??s Educational Goal is â??designated to assist the studentâ??s capability to pass the Bureau of Barbering and Cosmetology licensing examination.â?

4)    An externship program that places students in Sacramento-area beauty salons;

one day a week, in place of going to class, students can observe the work of experienced beauty professionals.

A Bright Future

Lauren graduated from Federicoâ??s Cosmetology program on Monday, December 22nd, 2008.

She will now put the finishing touches on her resume with Federicoâ??s Student Services support.  She would like to find a salon in the Stockton CA area â?? about an hour from Sacramento â?? to be closer to some family and friends.

Federico has long standing relationships with Sacramento-area salons who hire many Federico graduates, but Jennifer Hancock, Federicoâ??s Student Services Coordinator, is very eager to help Lauren find a job in Stockton.  On Laurenâ??s behalf, Jennifer will send Laurenâ??s resume and information about Federico Beauty Institute, to two salons that Lauren has identified in Stockton.

Lauren is confident she will find a great job.  â??Federico is very well known and admired in northern California.  Itâ??s great to have Federico training on my resume.â?

Scheduled to take the State Boards on January 16th, is there anyone out there that doubts Lauren will pass her licensure exams, start her beauty career and go on to future success as a beauty professional?

Boasting several campus locations throughout 13 States, Regency Beauty Institute provides career-minded candidates with concentrated education and training in cosmetology to become top-notch cosmetologists and hair designers.

In addition to being accredited by the National Accrediting Commission of Cosmetology Arts and Sciences (NACCAS), what sets Regency Beauty Institute apart from other beauty schools, says Stacey Cunningham, vice president of career services and marketing, are Regency’s unique applications, “We pride ourselves in having a centralized approach to all of our services — careers services, education, financial aid, marketing — all have consistency across the board.”

Depending on the State in which students reside, comprehensive cosmetology programs vary in training hours (1,500-1,800 hours; as deemed by individual State cosmetology board requirements). Divided into three key phases of practical studies entailing workshop, rehearsal, and performance — students at Regency Beauty Institute gain knowledge and skills in anatomy, physiology, chemical texturizing, chemistry; hair design, coloring, cutting, and styling; trichology (studies of the hair and scalp), nail and skin care, hair/wig extensions, salon ecology, and numerous other specialties. Cunningham said that students, who successfully complete the cosmetology program, receive a graduation certificate, but also, “(We) reach out to our students 300 hours before they graduate, with personal career representatives counseling them in their search for the dream job.”

Another amenity unique to Regency Beauty Institute is its STAR Rewards program. The STAR Rewards program ensures that “students are successful in key areas of the beauty industry including performance, repeat business, and delighting guests,” says Cunningham. This incentive program enables aspiring cosmetologists to achieve personal goals, satisfy clients, and more. Additional components to this program are perks geared for student designers, master designers, educators, and staff — including qualifying for events like mainstream hair shows (with paid accommodations); as well as luxury designer sheers, among other incentives.

Affiliated with a renowned, national beauty jobs’ Website, Regency Beauty Institute offers students and alumni a constant connection to professional growth and diverse career opportunities. “Regency Beauty Institute is continuously developing and enhancing relationships with salon partners,” says Cunningham. By having these vital connections, the central headquarters of Regency Beauty Institute is able to amplify and deepen professional partnerships that produce other essential programs like exciting hair fashion shows, speaker presentations, and more.

Today’s professional cosmetologist requires a solid educational foundation in the field of beauty, nail technology, and esthetics.
