Health Mind Body

Nearly all workplace have instigated health and safety training as part of their standard regulation and practise. Normal working offices would have a first appointed person in First Aid, a Fire Marshall and a Health and Safety trained officer. All offices and other places of employment should have a Health and Safety at Work Regulation Act of 1999 posted on the wall, so that all staff members are able to view this freely. However, not all staff would need to be trained on a course and will only need to have basic knowledge of this.

For businesses to provide health and safety training via an external agency, it is important for them to gain the right tuition from the right company and to invest in the right course. This can be done simply through researching the various agencies that can provide health and safety training, with a view to accredit each candidate with a certificate of completion. Those who are on the course to become a qualified officer usually take part in the course for a week or longer, completing an exam at the end of the course.

There are ways of sourcing out the best courses for staffs, is to research the agencies you are interested in enrolling with and finding out as much as you can about the course they provide for you. One thing you should look out for with all providers is whether they offer courses which have been accredited, approved and developed by the Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH). This is an independent non-profit organisation which sets the professional standards for all health and safety matters, and is a worldwide renowned body encompassing 35,000 members with over a third of these being charted practitioners.

In order for businesses to keep up with the changing laws of health and safety practises at work, it is vital that they keep up-to-date in the changes that may have taken place in the course they put their staff in. This may also mean that management would need to take part in the same course. It is also important to remember that the kind of training you provide will affect your staff greatly. Choosing an introductory course will help staff to get a better understanding of the importance of safety at work, even when they least expect it.

At the end of the course staff should be awarded the IOSH accredited Work Safety certificate, that covers all of the modules that has been studied on the course. Depending upon the size of the company, you may have the course set up for the entire staff in the office or for a specific few.

Vitality and energy are by products of good health and are needed to achieve career success, excellent relationships, and many other goals.

There are no guarantees, but here are some ideas for increasing your odds of having a long and healthy life.

1. Drink plenty of water.

Much of our body and brain are made up of water. You need water to stay hydrated, to flush out toxins, to assimilate nutrients from food, and for your brain to function properly. Drinking plenty of water also keeps your skin from becoming dry and prematurely wrinkled from dehydration.

2. You need a little sunshine.

It is true that you can get too much sun but we need some sunshine. Ten to twenty minutes of daily early morning or late evening sun is beneficial.

Sunshine gives you vitamin D which you need so your bones can absorb calcium. Without enough vitamin D our bones can become brittle and break. It is unnatural to spend all of our time indoors. We need fresh air and a little sunshine to maintain excellent health.

3. Exercise is important.

Our bodies need movement and physical activity. Proper exercise slows down our physical deterioration.

We need three types of exercise: Flexibility, aerobic, and strength training.

4. Eat well.

Fresh fruits and vegetables are among the most important foods you can eat. The greater the variety of colors, the better because they contain different types of antioxidants. Antioxidants strengthen your immune system and slow the aging process. Fresh produce is best, frozen is second best, and the least nutritious are canned fruits and vegetables.

5. Go for plenty of Walks.

A lot of people will say walk for 30 minute per day, I disagree. Walking should not just be for losing weight, it should also be for your own peace of mind. Walking is a non strenuous exercise that improves your heartrate, your respiration, and your mood. Enjoy the walk and take it slowly and you will want to take many more walks.

6. Isometrics.

You do not need to go to the gym to get a workout. Sitting there at your desk you could be doing Bicep Curls right now. Instead of using a weight, simply make a fist and tighten up the bicep. Now, as you bring your fist up to your shoulder, make it as hard as you can on yourself. Literally use your own strength to fight the movement. This will enhance tone, strength, and never risk a muscle. You can do this with any exercise, including something as simple as washing the car.

The two most common diets around are the Low Fat diet and the Low Carb diet. These plans have been popular for many years because of the initial weight loss, but people have trouble keeping the weight off later on. Let’s look at them for a moment

Low Fat Diets tend to eliminate some of the truly best tasting food. As well, without fat interrupting the flow of carbohydrates going into your system we tend to feel extreme highs and lows. If you have ever had a sugar high, you will know what this feels like. The crash at the end is the worst part. You will find yourself much more irritable and erratic.

Studies show that oral hygiene plays a role in overall health. Researchers have found that people who have periodontal disease have in increased risk of stroke, heart attack, and type II diabetes. The same harmful bacteria found in the mouth have been found in arterial plaques that cause heart disease. Saving your teeth can also save your life!

In conjunction with the in-office treatment you will receive, there are several things you can do at home to prevent and maintain your periodontal condition.

Coenzyme Q10, also known as CoQ10, is an antioxidant recommended by many dentists for the prevention and treatment of periodontal disease. CoQ10 is found in every cell of your body, particularly in the heart and oral tissues.

Researchers found that people with periodontal disease had a deficiency of this essential nutrient. It is recommended that you take at least 30mg two times per day. This is not a magic pill, you still need to brush, floss, and see your dental hygienist at least twice per year. Every day, bacteria that naturally builds up in the oral cavity, along with food particles, form a sticky, clear film on your teeth. This film is called plaque, and it forms above the gumline and below the gumline on the root surface. Plaque forms regardless of whether you eat or not.

Plaque that is not removed by brushing and flossing. It becomes hard and is unable to be removed with a toothbrush or floss. This hard plaques is called tartar. These tartar deposits produce toxins from the bacteria which cause inflammation. Inflammation of the gums is called gingivitis, and it is reversible. The inflammation below the gumline breaks down the bone and other supporting structures. This breakdown causes a space to form between the tooth and the gum, called a pocket. The breakdown of the bone and pocket formation is called periodontitis, and it is not reversible.

It is recommended that you have a dental phophylaxis or “cleaning” at least two times a year. Unfortunately, even with regular visits gingivitis and periodontitis still occur. In fact, it is estimated that 80% of adults have some severity of bone loss.

Another at-home option is to use a waterpik, which is an oral irrigator. The waterpik uses a high-powered, pulsating stream of water to gently clean around the gumline. There is also an attachment called a pik pocket, which is designed to clean periodontal pockets. In clinical studies the waterpik was 93% more effective than floss.

Doing one or both of these easy oral healthcare practices could save your teeth and your life.

I remember, when I was a child, that our cats lived long and healthy lives. Twenty was common and thirty not unusual.

I also remember that trips to the veterinarian were rare.

And that our cats were often fed table scraps and raw meat and bones.

Cat health problems didn’t seem to be an issue.

Nowadays, it seems that cats barely live beyond ten.

And vet clinics are kept very busy by worried pet people.

Could there be a connection? A connection between frequent visits to the vet and cats dying young?

In my opinion, there is.

Let me explain, before you get hot under the collar about how good your vet is. (And yes, I do concede that there are good vets about, but they are few and far between and usually holistic.)

Veterinary schools are now partially financed by the top (and wealthy) commercial pet food industry corporations. They ‘educate’ the students how wonderful and nutritious their food is. You only have to look at the reception area of most vets, to know what I’m talking about. Packs and tins are piled high to the ceiling.

But, if the students did a bit of digging, they’d find that almost all commercial pet food is very far from healthy. So unhealthy, in fact, that it is killing your cat.

Some students do go digging and so reject the commercial pet food. Others comply with the industry and advocate its use widely. After all, look at the profit they make. It’s a double scoop.

Once for the purchase of the food.

And again for the consultations and drugs when your cat inevitably falls sick.

So what can you do about cat health problems?

Diet is crucial to a healthy life. The daily intake of low quality food (if you can call it that), poisonous preservatives (too toxic to comply with human food laws)  and artificial nutrients (which aren’t easily absorbed) create havoc to your cat’s health.

The pretty labelling and fashionable words (natural, science, etc) have no substance. There are few, if any, laws in most countries, for the pet food industry. And what there are, are easily manipulated or side stepped.

Cat health problems has reached an all time high, because you’re not being told the truth. Like many other areas in your life, you’re being manipulated for profit.  You only have to listen to the good (almost always holistic) vets to know that this is true.

Almost as a body they are claiming that serious feline diseases can be cured by a switch to a natural meat and bones diet. Diseases like hypertension, the so-called inevitable age related diseases, cystitis, dead mothers and babies, heart disease, tumours and cancer, hip dysplasia, skin and hair problems, renal problems, spinal myelopathy, feline leukaemia, this list goes on.

I do believe that there are other contributory factors to cat health problems, apart from diet. But as diet is daily consumed, I feel it is the major contributor by far.

Cat health problems can be resolved, not just prevented, by a switch to a diet more in keeping with how cats evolved.

Once the diet is addressed to one more in keeping with how a cat evolved (you can’t beat nature, even though we keep trying), the cat’s immune system comes up and they are much better equipped to deal with other damaging causes.

In countries where basic health care is a right, and supplied free by the government (paid for by your taxes), natural health may appear to come at a price. But only if you compare it against the cost (or lack) of the consultation plus the prescription.

If you have to pay for your health care consultations and full price for your prescriptions, most if not all natural medicine is highly cost effective.

But you can’t just compare the cost of the consultations plus the prescriptions. For a truly accurate assessment of cost comparison, you must also take into consideration the overall efficiency of the consultation – ie how good or effective is the prescription.

As a body, natural health practitioners tend to look at your overall health care, including diet, relationship issues, work environment as well as individualising you as a person, to find those ‘specially for you’ remedies. So the consultation tends to be quite long – usually upwards of half an hour, depending on the modality.

Straight away you can see what value you’re receiving. The practitioner is truly interested in you and wants to find out your particular ‘achilles heel’. Rarely will a natural medicine therapist treat you dismissively, giving you just a few minutes to hear your story. After all, how can you pour out a life into a few minutes?

Natural medicine tends to work far better when the cause is addressed. It’s no good treating the effect, as that tends to make it worse, with more furious attacks later. Take anaphylactic shock, which can occur from a variety of causes. Lets take an allergy to bee stings to illustrate my point.

Those allergic to bee stings can suffer seriously, with swelling going far beyond the sting site, possibly even to your throat making breathing difficult, taking days or even weeks to reduce the swelling and pain. If you’re used to taking antihistamine, you know full well, that each time you have a sting, the condition worsens.

If, on the other hand, you treat the bee sting with a homeopathic remedy such as Ledum or Apis, you will not only resolve the problem more easily and quickly, but each time you are bitten, the reaction will lessen, until it becomes what is considered normal.

So when you are weighing up the cost of natural health versus western medicine, take into consideration the long term view.

As a natural medicine practitioner, I know I don’t get the right remedy 100% of the time. That used to bother me. I used to be concerned that I was wasting my patient’s hard earned cash if I didn’t deliver.

Now I realise that it’s not just me at fault. Apart from the fact I’m human and so do make mistakes, if the patient isn’t forthcoming, I can’t do much.

But what I really admire about natural medicine is that when I do make a mistake, it doesn’t have any real impact on you, the patient. I didn’t take the wrong kidney out, or give you too large a dose of a dangerous drug which pushed you close to or over the edge.

And when you consider the cost of surgery, you can have many, many natural medicine consultations to the same value. Somewhere within them, one natural health practitioner or another will be able to help you.

A balanced diet and regular exercise are healthy lifestyles which can bring on strong body, as well as fine vision. In opposite, smoking and excessive drinking are regarded as the killer of body health, and it is the same to the eye health. People who smoke or drink a lot always have poor vision when getting old.

However, there are some conditions which you can not avoid by careful eye care and healthy lifestyle. They are born naturally. You can only do some eye care to maintain your vision, preventing it not to become worse. Hyperopia is one kind of this problem, which is caused by weak eye muscles, flat cornea or short eyes. People with this problem do not have round eyes and are difficult in focusing on the near objects. The other problem is myopia, which is in contrast to hyperopia. This problem is caused by weak eye muscles, or long eyes. People with this problem have too round eyes and are difficult in focusing on the far objects.

Yet most of the eye conditions are not genetic. You can do a lot of things to maintain good eyesight by a healthy lifestyle. Firstly, the unsuitable weather, such as too windy or too dry, causes the eye not to create enough tears or the tears to evaporate too quickly. That is the so-called dry eye. You can not change your surrounding environment, but you can use the eye drops to lubricate eyes. Secondly, the great pressure to eyes will have an influence on the optic nerve located at the back of eyes, making you brain painful. That is glaucoma. You can have a rest if you feel strained to make your muscles relaxing. Next, the aging problem will lead to presbyopia, which is different to hyperopia, though both symptoms are unable to focus on the close up objects, presbyopia is not genetic. This problem is mostly noticed at the age of 40 to 50. You can take good care of your eyes to postpone the problems by regular exercise or balanced diet.

Most of people are born with excellent eyesight. The hectic and busy life or the bad diet habits deteriorate the eye condition. If you do cherish your eyesight, you must live a balanced and healthy life, and at the same time follow the dos and don’ts on eye protection following your optometrist’s suggestion.

For some peculiar reason, whenever I address a health issue and my male friends are present, the discussion is quickly redirected to another subject as they try to avoid the discussion. I recently encountered the same phenomenon and one of my friends responded that men are feeling guilty of making mistakes when it comes to their health. From forgetting to eat their daily fruit and veggies indulging in a hamburger of French fries, to scheduling an appointment with the doctor only when the symptoms they have been experiencing for weeks intensify, But although this can be partly explained due to societal standards that portray men to be strong and touch, this potentially life-threatening health negligence cannot be justified. Enduring pain and being able to overcome any type of problem they face does not seem as an adequate explanation for this type of problematic behavior. The truth is that men tend to view doctor’s visits as uncomfortable and involving potentially painful procedures and in general men are not capable of handling or enduring pain.

Health Issues in Men

Alcoholism is the consumption of alcoholic beverages to a point that this behavior impedes with the alcoholic’s normal life. The chronic alcohol consumption caused by alcoholism can result in psychological and physiological disorders.

Drinking alcohol is not always detrimental to health and in fact drinking in moderation can be good for you. Try to drink sensibly. Drinking 3 to 4 units (or less) a day for men is just fine. You should see to it that these daily limits shouldn’t exceed even if you only drink occasionally. A few days in a month without any alcohol can prove to be quite beneficial to your overall health, too. Health issues are always on the news these days and this is to educate a lot of people about their health especially their sexual health. Common men’s sexual health matters include prostate cancer, sexual transmitted disease or STD, AIDS or Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome. There’s also a problem about erectile dysfunction commonly known as impotence that is represents a serious issue for those couples that want to have a baby but then they are not blessed because of that illness.

Sometimes the erectile dysfunction from the medications is a side effect that goes away as the body adjusts to it. Other times the doctor is going to need to adjust the dosage or even try out new medications. Many males don’t want to share this problem with their doctor though so they just stop taking their medication. That is certainly not a good solution for any male who is having problems with sex due to medication conditions as well as their age. Low self esteem is a major problem for men with their overall physical appearance as they get older.

Women’s health is not only monitored and maintained by the foods that she eats, or the exercise she completes throughout the week, but also by the status of her sexual health.Women’s sexual health is quite important because there are so many complications that can occur within a women’s body that could result in life-threatening consequences.

Cervical dysplasia can cause Vaginal bleeding, which means that there is the presence of precancerous cells within the lining of the cervix that could affect women’s health. The risk of developing these cells is increased when a women compromises her sexual health by having sex before the age of 18; having sex with multiple partners; having a child before they turn 16 or have had a STD in the past. Cryosurgery can treat this condition, as well as other procedures before the cells turn into cervical cancer.

Some of the most common women-specific health concerns are PMS, menopause, and fertility. These are all related to hormone production, which can be balanced in a variety of ways. There are prescription drugs that can help regulate hormone levels as well as help fight inflammation and other symptoms of PMS. There are pills that can help alleviate night sweats and help maintain bone density in women going through menopause. There are also fertility drugs that can help increase the chances of conception. Many womens health questions involve safety, and the good news is these herbal supplements have been shown to be much safer than their pharmaceutical counterparts, with minimal side effects with recommended dosages. Of course it’s important to buy high quality supplements from a reputable company, as there are always products on the market that don’t contain what they claim to.

Asian women generally have lower hip fracture rates than Caucasian women. Even so, Asian women seem to have as high a rate of incident of vertebrae fractures as Caucasian women.

Additionally, slender women have less bone mass and are a greater risk for bone fractures related to osteoporosis.

Osteoporosis is a debilitating disease brought on by low bone mass. It causes bones to be vulnerable to fractures. If you don’t take steps to prevent osteoporosis, or you have it and don’t get treatment, it can progress painlessly until a bone breaks which will most likely be in your hip, spine, or wrist. When women older than 35 years decide to get pregnant, they can have congenital abnormalities in the newborn baby. As one ages, one also catches some form of illness or the other. High blood pressure, diabetes, blood pressure, anxiety, piles, weakness in the bones and limbs are some of the common ailments of today’s environment. In case the mother has any of the above, which is not treated properly before conceiving, the prospective child can have many abnormalities.

Here are some health tips you might find useful. I myself have survived a serious health problem and not just survived it but emerged from it at the age if 58 in the best health I have ever enjoyed.

Here are some of the very simple things I regard as key to that success:

DAILY EXERCISE:
Lots of walking/running/cycling. Bodies like to be worked so work yours. Just bear in mind a gradient approach and don’t over-tax it.

STRESS:
Human beings are tough creatures so I’m not over-keen to play the “stress” card. A busy, active, responsible life with a few thrills and spills is recommended. But get sufficient rest and sleep and give yourself some down time. Take a walk and get yourself some space. As well as ensuring you get sufficient rest, get sufficient WHOLESOME food food and liquids. These common-sense measures can go a long way to preventing high cholesterol and blood pressure weight gain, insomnia, headaches, acne, and even hair loss. The body will work fine until its is impeded from so doing: so much of what ails us comes about because, quite simply, we poison or damage ourselves

QUIT CAFFEINE AND TOBACCO:
This maybe easier said than done but the health benefits if you can pull it off are tremendous. Believe me, I’ve been there! And if I can kick these habits so, my friend, can you!

AVOID DRUGS AND ALCOHOL
These are poisons. The pharmaceutical industry works hard to convince us to drug ourselves on every pretext – and the drugs touted are very often catastrophic to health. In a great many instances good nutrition is a better solution or indeed prevention and as a technology nutrition has left the pharmaceutical approach back in the stone age.

Drug companies however cannot make money out of getting us to eat properly or take vitamins. Indeed they cannot make money out of our being well.

GET REGULAR CHECKUPS:
I recommend two things: a standard blood test by which you can monitor cholesterol levels and so forth and periodic visits to a kinesiologist.

Kinesiology is a highly advanced piece of technology and in the hands of an expert practitioner it is a wonderful and very accurate diagnostic tool.

With it one can establish whether any organs are not working properly and not only establish the specific herbal/nutritional remedy that will resolve the matter but the amounts of that remedy one needs to take. My kinesiologist has been able to detect and resolve issues early before they became life-threatening that mainstream medicine never would have been able to detect.

I have been greatly impressed and helped by Kinesiology and highly recommend it.

SUPER FOOD
They are calling it a super food and a “nutrient power house.” In my view this natural, organic whole food deserves such accolades. It nourishes at a deep cellular level. Since I have been using it I have enjoyed a remarkable resurgence of my vitality and overall wellness. Throughout my body everything simply started working properly.

I have been so impressed by this fantastic product that I am about to publish a free book that will tell you all about it:: what it is, what it does and why its results are so miraculous. I am giving it away to anyone who wants a copy. Including YOU, dear reader.

Anybody who is slightly overweight or clinically obese is always on a hunt for ways that can help them burn their extra pounds of fat. There are effective treatments that can prove helpful, easily available on the market. However, you should not opt for any drug without a proper consultation with a doctor. In the UK, obesity is posing a serious health threat, as about half of the adult population is now overweight and about one quarter of these people are obese. The primary cause of rising obesity levels among people is attributed to their increasingly sedentary modern lifestyle. Also, you can easily get cheap snack foods and inexpensive high fat convenience meals that are generally considered unhealthy.

If the preventive measures are not taken now, the day is not far away when obesity may become the leading cause of preventable deaths and diseases among people worldwide, overthrowing smoking to second slot. According to the WHO, smoking is the leading cause of preventable deaths and diseases among people worldwide.

Problems associated with Obesity

Obesity can cause some serious health problems among people. These health risks may include heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, cancer, stroke, gallstones, gall bladder disease, gout, and osteoarthritis. It can also cause breathing problems among some people like sleep apnea, in which a person may stop breathing for sometime during sleep.

If you have a family history of certain chronic diseases like heart disease or diabetes, then you are at an increased risk of developing these problems on becoming overweight or obese. Some medical conditions such as high blood pressure and high cholesterol may also sound warnings signs for serious obesity-related risks.

The most standard measure of obesity is body mass index or BMI. However, your waist circumference can also tell a lot about obesity-related conditions that may develop in future. For example, an apple shaped waist or stomach may be an indicator for health risks like heart disease, diabetes, and cancer.

Tips and suggestions

There is no magic formula for slimming or losing weight overnight. The only reliable way to become slim is to adopt a healthy lifestyle. Even if you already have a weight problem, the best way to lose it is to make positive lifestyle changes. A healthy diet and regular daily exercise are the key weapons for becoming slim in the end. There are some useful prescription treatment drugs available on the market like the Reductil (Sibutramine) and the Xenical (Orlistat).

Dog health care is such a vast domain that you would need really specific problems to focus on in order to cover the issues you’re interested in. Among the main dog health care problems we may say that the most frequent ones are fleas, worms and poisons. If these are not professionally taken care of, other very serious troubles may be expected. Worms and external parasites waste the dog’s body of nutrients and energy; plus dog health care providers insist that neglected dogs are full of toxins because of the parasite overgrowth.

Here are some dog health care tips to be used when dealing with worms, fleas or various poisons the dog comes into contact. Puppies need de-worming as early as two or three weeks with the procedure repeated at four or six weeks of age. Dog health care specialists claim that worm immunity in puppies doesn’t appear sooner than six months of age, and the worm larvae pass from mother to puppies. In order to meet the dog health care requirements you need to remove all stools from your garden, keep the lawn cut short and make sure you feed your dog on thoroughly cooked meat.

Fleas are the next dog health care problem under discussion here, and to a certain extent they are responsible for the possible tapeworms they may carry. Fleas and lice are easy to deal with; thanks to the many shampoos, collars or special drops, this dog health care issue has become piece of cake. Do not use human shampoo to wash your dog as it will completely degrease the fur and afterwards the dog’s skin would have to secret even more oil to compensate for the deficit. Anti-flea sprays, powders, collars or any other products can be purchased from any dog health care store. However, it’s good to ask the vet in the first place too.

Make sure that you keep your dog away from any potentially harmful substances that may lead to poisoning. Dog health care specialists point out that rapid intervention in the poisoning cases is crucial for saving the animal’s life. If you think your dog may have ingested some toxic chemical, try to give it some fresh milk as a first aid measure and call your vet immediately. Health and fitness is basic concern in most of people’s mind these days. We are living a very fast paced life. A life full of stress and tensions. A life full of workloads, commitments and more work load. Many people have different diseases that they never had any idea of because they were so busy in there day to day life. Although we try follow the simple heath and fitness tips , a few lucky one’s also join some health and fitness center but still we are unable to take care of our health the way we should be.

Fitness Tips For Women

Supportive nutrition, as opposed to just healthy eating, supports a lifestyle that will help you achieve your weight loss and fitness goals. In order to maintain a healthy weight we must have a proper balance of beneficial proteins, carbohydrates, and fats. Eating a variety of healthy foods from all of the food groups is essential to achieving and maintaining lasting weight loss.

Women are predisposed to fat storage. It is in your genetic make up. Puberty, your monthly cycles, pregnancy, and menopause are all factors that promote an immense amount of fat storage. And, if you are taking any kind of hormone replacement therapies, your situation is compounded. Not to mention medical conditions that are more common to women. Men do not have to deal with any of this.

Joint Stability, Proper Posture, & Muscular Balance

Another area of concern for women’s fitness is joint stability, proper posture, and muscular balance. These three areas of concern are crucial to any woman who wants to lead a vital, pain free life.

Without exception, every woman that I have come across has needed help with posture, joint stability and muscular balance.

For many women, fitness is a challenge simply because taking the physical steps necessary to begin a fitness program can be the most difficult part of the process. The need for motivation to make that effort starts there. For many other women, getting started is not an issue. Ultimately though, whether getting started in easy or not, for the large majority of us staying focused, committed, and on the right track requires motivation on a daily and even sometimes hourly basis.

You can get that motivation through various means. Play great music, live for the compliments that come as your body starts changing, (gotta love that attention), buy that outfit or swimsuit you want to wear this summer and look at it everyday, or even tape a picture of you with that body of your dreams all over the house.

Fitness supplements should not be confused with that of performance enhancing substances, which are mostly illegal due to the fact that they provide an unfair advantage to the sportsperson, or because of the potential health hazards and risks that are associated with these substances, like that of anabolic steroids. Although some performance enhancing substances are available by prescription, as they are controlled within the medical fraternity, and are still used today by bodybuilders and some sportspeople, at the risk of being found out and possibly banned from their chosen sport.

Bone health in women is a pressing issue because women’s bones are by nature less dense than those of men. Moreover, certain nutrients may be deprived from a woman due to menstruation and physical ailments. This is why a woman must be careful as to the food she is consuming and her general state of health to make sure that her body is not deprived of vital nutrients critical to good bone health. In a woman’s advanced age, signs of poor bone health are beginning to manifest in bad posture and other conditions that suggest neglect for proper bone health.

Proper Nutrition and Good Bone Health in Women

For better bone health for women, the topmost factor to be considered should be the nutrition. This is why every woman’s diet must include doses of calcium, iron, and potassium because these three elements are critical in order for a woman to have good bone health. Without them, the bone density may be severely reduced, making them weaker in structure and rendering them prone to fracture. These nutrients are obtainable from vegetables, fruits, and fishes, although they are also available from food supplements and vitamin tablets. However, doctors recommend that one eat the natural variety in order to extract the highest amount of the needed nutrient.

Vitamin D and Exercise for Good Bone Health

Another factor which affects bone health in women is Vitamin D. Vitamin D in itself is available through fresh sunshine very morning. Moreover, it is just one of the key elements important to good bone health that is easily obtainable from nature. On the other hand, health experts agree that sunshine and regular exercise are a good combination to ensure proper bone health. Brisk walking early in the morning or a short jog around the park or biking after dinner are just some of the physical exercises doctors recommend to women in order to promote good bone health.  On the other hand, most bone health-related problems in women occur after their menopausal period. In these times, it is even more critical that a woman exercise to keep her bones in good health. Suggested exercises include lifting small weights such as dumbbells as well as jumping exercises.

Another factor that can affect bone health is posture. It is noticed that most females, especially in their young age, do not pay attention to proper posture, blithely dismissing it, not knowing the consequences later could be severe. For example, it is common for females to sit with their back arched far forward. This is a flawed position that affects bone development.

Avoiding Complications Arising from Poor Bone Health

In order to have healthy bones, the different factors enumerated above should be given ample attention or else the consequences could be drastic. This is because damage to the bones may bring serious complications. For example, a simple fracture in the bone due to weak structure may bring internal infections and other ailments that could compound the situation further.

Natural health magazines abound, often giving you conflicting advice. Who should you believe?

I believe any good natural health magazine, like any good magazine, shouldn’t so much give you advice, rather they should give unbiased important pros and cons and leave you to work out the best solution for you.

After all you are unique. What is helpful to the magazine editor may be harmful to you. Only you can decide.

Being unbiased is hugely important. We’re all reading in the news how doctors have been paid to create unsubstantiated ‘scientific’ papers supporting some drug or other.

Natural health magazine editors are people too. Some good, some bad, some indifferent. If the editor only advocates items they receive a royalty form, they aren’t unbiased.

Sure, we all need to make our daily crust, but it’s best to be open about what we profit from.

A good natural health magazine should look at all aspects of health, not just focus on physical ailments. For example, diet is critical to good health.

I recently read of six people, all suffering with type 2 diabetes, on insulin and all obese. Within one week of a change of diet, most were off their insulin. Within one month, they all were.

Isn’t that awesome?

I find it extraordinary that doctors receive no nutritional training whatsoever.

Yet I doubt there is a natural health therapist who doesn’t understand the importance of diet.

Natural health covers every aspect of who you are. You aren’t just your body. You aren’t just your mind. You are a unique and complex unit. Your feelings and emotions are as important (actually more so) as your thoughts and creations.

So any natural health magazine worth its salt will cover aspects of your emotional health, as well as your physical health. When you ignore your emotional health, sooner or later you’ll suffer physical ill health.

Everyone knows that stress causes anxiety and that anxiety causes higher blood pressure and faster heart rate. While that’s fine for a short period, if you continually have these ‘anxiety attacks’, your physical health will deteriorate.

But you don’t have to resort to drugs. There are many effective, natural alternatives. And homeopathy can actually get to the cause of why you are suffering these attacks in the first place.

And fix it.

And lastly, your magazine should have a readers question area. Whilst the answer may not be specifically helpful for your ailment, they should be able to point you in the right direction. They should know what areas each natural health modality excels in and which has limited ability.

For example, you wouldn’t go to a masseuse if you had incontinence. And you probably wouldn’t go to a chiropractor if you had a torn ligament. It’s doubtful you’d see an acupuncturist if you had been abused as a child.

Yet all these health issues can be resolved using homeopathy.

If you’re new to natural health, you may be wondering what products to buy and where to purchase them, for the best quality and value. You’ll also probably like to know what they can do for your health and how to take them.

If you’re a seasoned natural health products user, you may be wondering how to extend your knowledge.

One of the best ways of getting your head around a new concept AND extending your knowledge is to subscribe to a good, regular ezine (online newsletter) which discusses various ailments, a multitude of the natural health products which will help resolve these symptoms, and the whereabouts of where you can purchase these, wherever you are in the world.

One of the best range of natural health products are homeopathic remedies. These are highly effective, low cost and easy to use. You can use the services of a professional homeopath to help deal with deep seated issues. And you can use some common remedies in the comfort of your own home, dealing with any ailments from a cold to a burn.

Homeopathy is a new concept to most people. You may not know what it is or how it works.

Learning anything new takes time. The best way is to learn a little at a time. This way, it becomes a part of live.

When I run classes on how to home prescribe, I encourage participants to practice on their families, in between classes. The following class always starts off with the excited chatter of how successful their efforts have been.

There’s nothing quite as exciting as having your own personal success!

There are already more than 4,000 homeopathic remedies available and this is added to daily as more remedies become known about. As a home prescriber, only about 40 are available to you, but that’s still a lot to get your head around when you don’t know much!

Of all the natural health products available, from herbs to food, homeopathy is probably the most difficult for a newbie, as the concepts are so different from mainstream thinking.

So it’s good to have a mentor, to help guide you through the maze.

Challenges are a great way to stretch your mind, but they can be overwhelming when you get stuck and don’t know where to go for help.

Of all the natural health products about, I know of no other than homeopathy which can do so much good when you select the correct remedy, and do no harm if you get it wrong.

That’s a mighty claim.

I just want to repeat it as it really is profound.

Do so much good…

… and do no harm.

What other natural health products can make that claim?

I know very little about herbs, aromatherapy, chiropractic (for example), other than they can be wonderful, and also harmful in the wrong hands.

What other health products can make that claim?

I know very little about medicine (and don’t want to), other than it is mostly suppressive and works against your body’s own innate healing powers. This means it comes at a price – twice.

Once as a high monetary cost, once in the harmful effect on your overall, long term health.

In my opinion, nothing comes close to homeopathy in the way it can resolve deep seated issues and long standing symptoms. The most difficult part is getting started. Once you’ve created that momentum, things click into place naturally.

It seems that dog health is on the decline. Depending on the breed, dogs can live to 20 years or more. Today, you’re lucky if they reach eight.

Why is this?

Years ago, dogs were fed table scraps, kitchen scraps and homemade food, as commercial pet food hadn’t been invented. The table scraps were more healthy then, as junk food didn’t abound.

Years ago, it was rare to take a dog to a veterinarian. Vets, as doctors, were only visited when deemed absolutely necessary.

And yet, still dogs lived longer.

Could there be a connection between dog health today and their diet?

In my opinion, the answer to that is a resounding YES!

As with most people, I’m sure you’re blissfully unaware of what goes into making your own food, let alone that of your dogs. When people are asked if they know, the frequent answer is “I don’t want to know”.

Obviously you suspect the worst.

But why don’t you want to know?

Is it because you’re caught out not knowing, so fear looking stupid?

I can understand that.

Or perhaps the knowledge of what goes into dog food is too revolting to consider. If this is the case, don’t you think your dog might agree with you? Maybe he thinks it’s revolting too, but if he doesn’t eat it, he fears he may not be offered an alternative. Even revolting food will keep you alive.

Well, now you have the chance of finding out what really goes into pet food, so next time someone accosts you in the street, you can answer with confidence. Not only that, you can change the diet of your dog to something he will love and that will keep him in peak condition, to boot.

There’s a saying ‘garbage in, garbage out’. Dog health IS dog food, by the very nature of its frequent consumption.

The pet food industry remains more or less unregulated in all countries. The little regulation there is, is poorly policed. It would require too much funding, which tends to be spent on human needs.

So the industry gets away with whatever it wants.

Low quality meat (called meat by-products) is the start of the slippery slope. While dogs can eat some low quality food (hair, beaks, feathers, intestines and contents, fat), they can’t survive on it. They need some good quality to maintain health.

Euthanased animals may be rejected by a more ethical company, but may be eagerly snapped up by those who are less so. The lethal injection forms part of the resulting food. Can this be contributing to poor dog health?

To bulk out the food, to make it more profitable, a filler is added. This can be whatever is available cheaply. It might be melamine. It might be sugar. It may be sawdust.

All pet food is cooked under high temperatures and pressures. This kills off enzymes, vitamins and other nutrients that are essential for good dog health.

To redress this shortfall, nutrients are added. But these are normally the synthetic ones as they’re the cheapest. Synthetic nutrients are not easily absorbed by the body. As most of them are also isolated, they are of little value. Dog health is all about getting complex nutrients in a complete and natural form, which are easily absorbed.

To give the resulting dog ‘food’ a long shelf life (which is good for business, but not for dog health), toxic preservatives are used, preservatives that would never be allowed in human food because of their highly poisonous nature. Poisons such as ethoxyquin and formalin.

Don’t be fooled by packets which maintain they use ‘natural’ preservatives, or are even preservative free. Ask yourself this – can meat be kept indefinitely at room temperature, without the use of preservatives?

It’s down to you to be vigilant in the quality of your dog’s food. To maintain good health, you need to be in control, which means you need to know the worst. Putting your head in the sand isn’t going to keep your dog healthy.

The eye is one of the most important organs of human body. And it is quite critical to take good care of the eyes. Yet there are several top risks that threaten eye health.

Diabetes is always accompanied by high sugar levels, which may damage the blood vessels of the body, especially those in the eyes. Studies have found that excess amounts of blood sugar caused by diabetes can significantly increase the risk of several eye diseases, including cataracts, blood leakage in the retina, macular edema, macular degeneration, and glaucoma as well as eye infections. Associated with so many possible diseases, diabetes has become a top cause of blindness among US citizens.

Natural aging is inevitable in everyone. Vision loss at different degrees is quite common among old people, especially in those above 50. Vision loss caused by natural aging is always gradual and not noticeable. Yet there are still other health conditions that indirectly or directly affect eyesight in older individuals. Those factors include uncontrolled diabetes, high blood pressure, kidney disease, cataracts, AMD, retinal tears and detachment, glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy as well as presbyopia.

There is a great population of smokers in the world. Unfortunately, most people are not aware of the deleterious effects of smoking on the eyes. Smoking has been thought to increase the risk of macular degeneration and cataracts. This bad habit influences eye health by affecting oxygen level in the ocular tissues. Smoking makes a smoker’s heart to work harder and raise blood pressure, which becomes less efficient in delivering sufficient oxygen to the eyes.

High blood pressure in the eyes can lead to small leaks and clots. Blood leakage in surrounding eye tissues usually affects focus ability. And clots in the eye consume precious oxygen and even cause vision loss. Contributors of high blood pressure include heart disease, diabetes, and unresolved renal disease.

Nutrition also plays an important role in maintaining good eye health. People should regularly consume beneficial nutrients such as anti-oxidants including vitamin A, C and E as well as healthy fats such as omega-3 acids. A lifelong unhealthy diet can speed up aging process.

There are a million and one trendy diets out there offering to change how you look and feel in a matter of days. The consumer is flooded with products that will make their skin “appear” healthier and softer to touch. In a world with too much focus on looking good and “appearing” healthier, there is one diet that WILL make you healthier and potentially live a longer life in your anti-aged body.

The anti-inflammatory diet has so many uses today it is surprising every one of the health, fitness and beauty gurus have not jumped on the simplest of diet changes and marketed them as the next big trend in weight loss, beauty and anti-aging. The fact is the anti-inflammatory diet can do everything other diets claim they can do and increase lifespan in the process.

So how do I jumpstart the anti-inflammatory diet?

Get a journal and write down all the foods you eat in a given week. Think of this first week as a natural eating time, so don’t make any changes or eat anything you would not normally eat. Once the list is complete, head off to the Internet for a little research and education on the power of food over inflammation. Many people are surprised by the effects seemingly healthy foods can have on overall body health and the prevention of illness. Sure, the market screams at the consumer about drinking more vitamin C and reducing calories, but what about the foods that seem healthy but really aren’t? These foods will be found after a week of journaling before starting your anti-inflammatory diet.

Are there any baked foods on the list? Chances are, if these foods were purchased prepackaged; they will contain at least a small amount of trans fats. Even the small, 100 calorie bites of cupcake marketed as healthy alternatives can contain up to 0.5 grams of trans fats. Eating just two of these little cakes a day for a week contributes a whopping 7 grams of trans fats – the only healthy level is 0 grams.

Did you eat a salad this week? Many people think eating a salad is a healthy alternative and it can be, without that fat laden dressing covering the healthy greens. One tablespoon of regular dressing can contain 100 calories and about 10 grams of fat. The typical true serving is about ¼ cup per salad. That equates to 400 calories, 40 grams of fat and a -76 rating on the inflammation factor scale which measures the total inflammatory effect of foods on the body. The goal is to reach +50 or more.

But, I didn’t know…

Few people look at the foods they eat in an inflammatory way. But, the fact is that many common illnesses that can be life threatening is linked to inflammation. Choosing foods that contain no trans fats and low total fat is a healthy choice toward building your anti-inflammatory response. These changes are simple and anyone can jump onto the diet at any time.

Another great supplemnt to add to your diet is Nopalea.

If you are a woman and you want to stay fit and trim those excess fats, should you engage in bodybuilding? The answer is yes. In fact, bodybuilding is a better alternative to restrictive diets that emaciate your body, or resorting to surgical procedures to shed off excess body fats. However, women oftentimes do not consider weight training as something that is for them. Even of late, a number of women are still afraid to get involved in weight training. It is still by large perceived as a man’s exercise. Women who are involved in bodybuilding are even often misconstrued as tomboyish and testosterone – laden.

Benefits of Bodybuilding for Women

There are multiple benefits for women who engage in weight training. First, bodybuilding is a good weight reduction exercise. Building muscles is a good way of burning stubborn and unwanted fats. Most often, women tend to approach weight reduction by limiting food intake. Some even resort to “crash diets” to achieve immediate results. These methods have been proven to be ineffective and unhealthy. Weight training is a better alternative as you can continue loading on the food that your body needs and craves without having to worry about adding another pound on your weight.

Good for the Heart

Secondly, weight training helps build a stronger heart. It improves blood circulation when done moderately. Good blood circulation is important in preventing usual causes of stroke such as the formation of blood clots in the arteries. Better blood circulation also ensures that body cells get enough supply of oxygen carried by the blood. Caution needs to be taken though as excessive weigh training can lead to over exertion that might stress your heart by having to keep a faster than normal pace with the body’s demand for more oxygen.

Lastly, weight training can help in the formation and strengthening of bones. As women get older, bone problems become more common. Women can prevent having a lot of bone problems by engaging in light weight training exercises prior to the menopausal years, when bone problems tend to worsen.

Men and Muscles

The most common misconception that women have with weight training is that this will make them grow muscles and therefore make them look like men if not oversized dolls. First, it is important to know that testosterone, the male hormone, is a big factor in the formation of bulky muscles. Women do not have much testosterone as men so it is unlikely for women to be able to grow muscles akin to those achieved by males on a bodybuilding regimen.

Bodybuilding is also not a weight lifting contest so you can actually do little to moderate weight training exercises to achieve well – toned muscles without the bulk as commonly seen on professional bodybuilders.

It is also important to note that these professional bodybuilders follow a rigid regimen of calorie loading and intensive muscle workout to achieve such monstrous bulk. So, a simple workout at the gym for a number of days in a week will not turn you into a female Schwarzenegger. GP

Meditation is a group of mental training techniques. You can use meditation to improve mental health and capacity to improve their motivation for their goals and also to help improve physical health. Some of these techniques are very simple, so they can learn from a book or an article; others require the guidance of a qualified meditation teacher.

What is meditation…Most techniques called meditation include these components:
1. You sit or lie in a relaxed position.
2. You breathe regularly. You breathe in deep enough to get enough oxygen. When you breathe out, you relax the muscles so that your lungs are well emptied, but without effort.
3. Stop thinking about everyday problems and issues.
4. You concentrate your thoughts on some sounds, some words that you repeat, some images, some abstract concept or some feeling. All your attention should be appointed to the object you have chosen to focus on.
5. If some foreign thoughts creep in, you just stop this foreign thought, and back to the object of meditation.

The different meditation techniques differ according to the degree of concentration and thoughts are treated as foreigners. In some techniques, the goal is to concentrate so intensely that no foreign thoughts occur at all.

In other techniques, the concentration is more relaxed so that foreign thoughts easily pop up. When these foreign thoughts are discovered, one stops these and goes back to pure meditation in a relaxed manner. Thoughts come, will often be about things you have forgotten or suppressed, and allow you to rediscover hidden memory material. This rediscovery will have a therapeutic effect.

The Effects of Meditation….Meditation has the following effects:
1. Meditation will give you rest and recreation.
2. You learn to relax.
3. You learn to concentrate better on problem-solving.
4. Meditation often has a positive effect on blood pressure.
5. Meditation has beneficial effects on internal body processes, such as circulation, respiration and digestion.
6. Regular meditation will have an effect psychotherapeutically.
7. Regular meditation will facilitate the immune system.
8. Meditation is usually pleasant.

The difference between hypnosis and meditation:
Hypnosis can have some of the same relaxing effects as meditation and psychotherapy. However, when you are in control meditate alone; by hypnosis you let some other person or some mechanical device that you control. Hypnosis does not have an effect on the ability of training to focus.

A simple form of meditation….Here is a simple form of meditation. Through this meditation technique, you should focus on an easy way. This will allow foreign thoughts to pop up. These are treated as one by one they appear. You do the following:

1. Sit in a good chair in a comfortable position.
2. Relax all the muscles, as well as you can.
3. Stop thinking of something, or at least try not to think about anything.
4. Breath out, relaxing the muscles in your breathing apparatus.
5. Repeat the following in 10 – 20 minutes:
– Breath in so deep that you feels you receive enough oxygen.
– Breath out, relax the chest and diaphragm completely.
– Every time you breathe out, I think the word “one” or another simple word inside yourself. You should think the word in an extended form, and so if you hear it inside you, but you should try to avoid using your mouth or voice.
6. If foreign thoughts come in, just stop these thoughts in a relaxed manner, and continue to focus from the breath and the word you repeat.

As you proceed through this meditation, you should feel steadily more relaxed in your mind and body; constantly feel you breathe more efficiently, and that the blood flow throughout your body becomes more efficient. You can also experience increased mental pleasure throughout the meditation.

Effects meditation in Diseases:
Like any type of training, meditation may be exaggerated, so that you get tired and worn out. Therefore you should not meditate so long or so concentrated that you feel tired or mentally emptied.

Meditation may sometimes give problems for people suffering from mental illness, epilepsy, serious heart problems or neurological diseases. On the other hand, meditation can be useful in treating these and other conditions.

People suffering from such conditions should verify the effects that different types of meditation have on their own kinds of health problems before beginning to practice meditation and be cautious if you decide to start meditating. It may be wise to learn meditation from an experienced teacher, psychologist or health professional that use meditation as a module for the treatment of the disease itself.

If you are overweight and are prone to overeat through a constant feeling of hunger, it may be that you are not hungry for just food, but your body may actually be hungry for essential nutrients such as vitamins, minerals, oils, protein and other nutrients that are important for proper and healthy body function.

Power Plate machines use the principles of Acceleration Training exercise which uses vibration to stimulate the muscles. These vibrations are transferred to the muscles in the body causing them to contract rapidly in reflex action, making them work harder. By assuming various positions on the Power Plate, you can stimulate different muscle groups more effectively than standard resistance training. For example, according to trainer, Zak, holding a squat for one minute on the Power Plate is equivalent to doing 100 squats. Greater results can also be achieved in just one to two short sessions a week. In fact, one of their clients dropped two dress sizes in less than 20 sessions for her wedding.

More refined techniques of walking to lose weight include jogging, power walking, treadmill walking and running. The calories burned in each of these activities vary, but the core concept that works for everyone here is: if you do it regularly, you will lose weight!

At first, start slow and walk for ten minutes of so at a normal pace. You can actually hurt yourself by walking if you are real out of shape! Your knees and feet may hurt a bit at first – if that happens, take a day off. You don’t want to discourage yourself at the outset.

It could be your marriage lined up or some other special occasion as important as a wedding – where in you need to look your best. But what would happen in case you have stored a lot of fat which is making you look absolutely out of shape. You look awful in the prettiest dress that you have. And the worse is that you have to struggle to even fit into it. In situation like this the obvious thing is to loose weight. But what if there is no enough time for that. Then, the most prudent thing to do is to resort to the last minute weight loss measures. You should resort to the fat free breakfasts and cut your dinner absolutely. If you feel hungry by the evening or night have a lot of water and if the carving still persists you could have fruits. But while consuming fruits as well watch how much you are eating. Hogging of fruits would not help your reduce weight. Now, for the fat you have already accumulated needs to go. For that there is no other way but to exercise. Join a gym and exercise as much as possible. The best way to reduce weight is to resort to those exercises that would target particular places where you just can’t afford to have fat. The rest could be worked upon later. Have a personal trainer appointed who could direct you about the specific exercises that could get you the desired results. And in no time you would see the result of your last minute weight loss efforts.

Aging is an inevitable process for all of us. However, you don’t have to take it “lying down”. As a matter of fact, you can literally manage the whole ordeal and either hang on to your body’s prime condition or regain that which has been lost for years following a few very basic principles.

Obesity has emerged as a health epidemic around the world. The American Obesity Association reports that obese individuals have a 50-100% increased risk of death as compared to normal weight individuals. Obesity also results into diabetes, joint problems, high blood pressure, heart disease, gallbladder problems, digestive disorders, breathing difficulties, impotence and certain types of cancer. Obesity can be caused by many factors viz. heredity, poor digestive system, irregular eating habits, uncontrolled diet, psychological factors like stress, anxiety, etc.

Generic Xenical is being used to prevent the obesity. It is one of the effective solutions to resolve the issue of the excessive weight gain problem. Obesity is the problem caused by the deposition of the too much fats and carbohydrates in the body, which harms the health of an individual. Obesity is become a problem of concern as large number of people are suffering with it. Excessive weight gain is the first symptom of the obesity.

Weight loss is a long term process. Fad diets, removal of entire food groups or one small meal a day plans and severe calorie restriction can slow down the weight loss process. Losing fat, maintaining a healthy weight and meeting nutritional needs is essential for successful weight loss.

Everyone is looking for a quick fix; one small meal or a handful of calories looks like a fast start. But the impact of hormonal and metabolic changes and the inability of most dieters to sustain the restriction will invariably lead to frustration and failure.

Consulting an urologist is essential whenever the testis appears different in size or one feels any discomfort. The diagnosis of the urologist is solely on the basis of physical findings. A thorough examination of the scrotum and the testis including inspection, palpation and transillumination is needed in every case. If the hydrocele is large and surgery is not possible, the urologist drains the excess fluid with a needle and syringe.

Sexual Health problems in men different from individual to individual. People say that they know all the details about health related problems. They are wrong. New diseases coming up and so does new treatment methods for curing them is necessary. Now people are getting more aware about there health and they now seek help from doctors or through net. Those people who are lazy and shy unveil there problems in various other discussion forums.

The Oligospermia or low sperm count has such many causes but also as many different medical conditions that can reduce sperm count. Also these conditions include toxins in food, using tobacco, alcohol, too warm clothes, and also some medications. The Oligospermia causes get include anabolic steroids, Testosterone supplements, and also some other drugs. But even just using personal lubricants and lotions during sex can cause oligospermia.

Human body suffers from immense kind of problems related to health and it is very difficult to handle each and every disease with the help of long term treatment. This special sort of vinegar can provide relief from various kinds of diseases and disorders which include osteoporosis, problems related to high blood pressure, arthritis, cancer, indigestion, problems related to aging and memory and diseases associated with heart and cholesterol.

There are many other benefits to using apple cider vinegar. It is known to reduce common infections, aid whelping, improve stamina, prevent muscle fatigue after exercise, increase resistance to disease, and protect against food poisoning. Cider vinegar is rich in the vitamins, minerals, and trace elements found in apples, especially potassium; it normalizes acid levels in the stomach, improves digestion and the assimilation of nutrients, reduces intestinal gas and fecal odors, helps cure constipation, alleviates some of the symptoms of arthritis and helps prevent bladder stones and urinary tract infections.

Apple cider vinegar, or “ACV” as it has been coined over these last decade as it’s multipurpose health cure-all legend has grown, is a relatively inexpensive form of vinegar which is pressed from one of the most quintessentially healthy foods that we’ve always been encouraged to eat throughout our lives, the all American apple. Make no mistake, apples are healthy, it’s not just by some chance the saying “an apple a day keeps the doctor away” got popular.

Additionally, the acidic solution causes a fat burning effect to the person taking it. It also comprises of vital minerals, acetic acid, lactic acid, propionic acid, amino acids, enzymes and trace elements and vitamins and roughage specifically apple pectin and potash. The fermentation process supplies alcoholic apple cider that is merged with oxygen to create acetic acid. The pH of apple cider vinegar is highly flattering for the body.

In modern times, the medicinal uses for apple cider vinegar were probably best publicized by D.C. Jarvis a Vermont doctor who became familiar with the use of this product as a folk remedy. Used on animals as well as humans, Jarvis found that it could cure or prevent many common ailments, from colds and viruses to arthritis and digestive problems. More recently it has become a component of some natural diets, aiding in the weight loss process.

Apple cider vinegar has been used for immeasurable functions. It was also found to ease one from any illness. Over the years, apple cider vinegar has been chosen as a helpful health stimulant. The good features of the product have extended itself beyond its borders. The acetic acid and the malic acid found in it fights bacterial and fungal infections and ease muscle joints. The amino acids present are accepted to be antibiotics and antiseptics. While many of medicinal uses of vinegar are yet to be proven, some of these uses have clinical studies that can support the medicinal claims.

Apple cider vinegar has been labeled the miracle remedy by some experts because it is often a top remedy for numerous ailments. You probably know one person who swears upon taking a swig from the ACV bottle every day.

Congratulations you have just joined a new gym. You have made a commitment to losing weight, gaining muscle, and trying to improve your body the best that you can. You have done your research and have a training program in mind that will help you to reach your goal. Purchased gym clothes are in you new gym bag waiting for your first day. You arrive, change, and then make it out to the gym floor looking for the first exercise equipment that you will use. That is when you see them. It would be hard not to see them. The muscle bound hulks of the gym. They are picking up amounts of weight that you are sure would crush every bone in your body. They are moving from apparatus to apparatus doing exercises that you have never seen before, and have no idea what it is doing to their body. Each of them are talking about training strategies and muscle groups that sound like a foreign language to your ears. Plus, they have their special blends of training supplements that they are drinking throughout their workout, while you just have a simple bottle of water (and you felt smart bringing that when you entered the gym).

It is daunting no matter how prepared you are to workout out next to the gym hulks. It is hard for you to be struggling with your fifteen pound dumbbell, while the hulk next to you is picking up a dumbbell ten times that heavy, as a warm up. Many times people will withdraw from the free weight section of the gym, and just use cardio equipment to avoid being around the gym hulks. Or they will still try to weight train, but use the machines that the hulks of the gym avoid.

It is important, no matter what shape you are currently in, not to be ashamed or bashful about using the different equipment in your gym. There is a reason that the hulks are usually in the free weight section of your gym. Free weight training gives you a much better resistance based exercise compared with weight training on machines. Free weights require you to balance the weight, which helps muscle growth, and you can’t cheat with free weights and over use your dominate arm/leg, which means that you will get an even workout. Don’t be afraid to go over and use the free weight, no matter how little you are lifting. What you have to remember is everyone started getting the benefits of weight lifting at some point in their lives. The hulks were once mere normal looking people like you and me. Plus, the hulks are usually very helpful if you have questions about weight training. Remember they have already walked the path (maybe at an extreme level) that you are about to walk. They will provide tips and techniques to improve your own results.

Just as you shouldn’t be afraid to use any part of the gym to train, you shouldn’t be afraid of using supplements, like the hulks, to get better results. Whey protein is an excellent product that will help you to gain lean muscle growth in your body. Your body uses protein to build muscle, and helping your body to have a high supply of protein will increase muscle growth. Muscle creation also burns large amounts of calories, which will help you to lose weight.

You might not want to turn into a gym hulk, but you shouldn’t be intimidated by their presence. Nor should you avoid using their knowledge and products to your advantage.

A woman’s urinary health is something that should not be ignored because of the risks involved in having urinary tract infection or UTI. This is because a woman is more prone to developing the infection than men because of their unique anatomy, which makes it easy to develop UTI.

Things to Be Concerned about with Urinary Health

In the course of her lifetime, a woman may develop a urinary tract infection many times. Or, the case could be that it is just the same infection that recurs repeatedly. Although urinary tract infection is not considered serious, the condition can be painful and may involve a lot of risks.

Because of the threat that a woman may have from urinary tract infection, it is always imperative to keep her urinary health in top condition. This is to preclude developing any of the varieties of urinary tract infection, which can have harmful consequences.

Red Flags of a Woman’s Urinary Health

1)A very painful urination. In most cases, very little fluid is expelled from the body, yet the pain is so intense that it would seem as if a gallon of urine is gushing out.

2)The presence of blood in the urine. This is an indicator that the condition may be severe already. It is not normal under any circumstance to see blood in the urine.

3)Itchiness in the vagina or in the inner urinary tract

4)Frequent urination, usually with only about ten minutes in between urination

Maintaining Urinary Health in Women

1) Frequent washing of the area between the vagina and the rectum. This will help ensure that no bacteria will get into the urinary tract after bowel elimination.

2)Have only one sexual partner. In this aspect, it is very dangerous to be exchanging sexual partners. This is because frequently changing partners increases the likelihood that a woman will develop urinary tract problems.

3)Wash the vagina before and after sexual intercourse. This is to make the vagina clean and to lessen the chances of bacterial growth in the urinary tract.

4)Make sure to execute the proper way of cleansing after urinating or bowel elimination. Be sure to use clean tissues and wipe from front to back and not the other way around.

Maintaining good urinary health in women is a matter of good hygiene. One does not need to avail of costly procedures and other interventions just to assure good urinary health. With the proper education and the proper approach to a healthy life, urinary health can be maintained and the risks can be avoided. For example, a regular intake of citrus fruits and fresh fruit juices assures the body of a strong immune system and also boosts the chances of keeping urinary tract infection at bay.

But migraines are more than severe headaches- it’s a complex disorder that is often accompanied by many symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, and sensitivity to light and sound. For many, the worst symptom is the prolonged, throbbing, recurring pain. Migraines are thought to be caused by extreme constriction and then dilation of blood vessels in the head. Recent research suggests that migraines may result from altered levels of neurotransmitters (neurologically active chemicals) in the brain, particularly serotonin.
  • Pregnancy Health: There has never been better news for pregnancy planning! Maternal and fetal complications of pregnancy and childbirth are at an all-time low, prenatal diagnostics and interventions have continued to improve, and the “information age” has offered unprecedented access to medically related information. Contraceptive options are also multiplying and improving, so that the goal of eliminating unwanted pregnancies in the 21st century is no longer in the realm of fantasy. Despite these advances, too many American women spend more time planning a one-week vacation than they do planning a pregnancy.

Our Health Is Worse With Each Generation

Everybody with more than 3 brain cells knows (or should) that each generation is less healthy than the one before.  What’s happening to us?  And, even more important – what can we do about it?  The percentage of autistic and ADD/ADHD kids is growing at an alarming rate.  And worst of all, these are usually the brightest of our kids.

Why is this happening to us?   There are several factors:

    1.  Each generation has children born with more allergies, particularly food types.

    2.  Each generation gets less and less actual nutrition, and more and more food that tastes good, but isn’t good for us.

    3.  Our food supply deteriorates as it is changed by radiation, and other new techniques into a different form that is actually bad for us.  Corn is a good example, and other foods are similar.  Mother Nature does know best!

    4.  Overuse of antibiotics and steroids in our meat and milk supply create even more problems than they solve, including many bacteria becoming resistant to such.

    5.  General deterioration of our environment by man made toxic pollutants such as carbon dioxide, mercury in the sea and our water supplies, man made pesticides that kill much more than was thought, ad nauseam.

    6.  The thoughtless use of mercury (Thimerosal) in vaccines given to babies which has proved to be a major factor in “mental problems” of all kinds, particularly the ADD-autism continuum.  Add the “thoughtless” use of drugs for all kinds of problems.

    7.  The thoughtless overuse of antibiotics.  Antibiotics have done great work in bacterial diseases and infections, BUT they can do tremendous harm to the digestive system unless provisions are made.

    8.  Corporate greed producing unhealthy products and suppressing evidence for money reasons that would remove them.  All too often, new drugs are not tested over time for long term effects, and the FDA is manipulated into approving them without this needed testing, The FDA is now more interested in protecting Big Pharma than consumers!  (Did you know that more than half the “approval” board” for new drugs is composed of people in the industry – Big Pharma?  Vested interest – you think?)

Generational deterioration:  This is a downward spiral effect.  As the nutrition of each generation gets worse, the “leaky gut” syndrome appears more and more.  This leads to more and more allergic persons, who pass on some of this “tendency” at least to their children.

I have come to believe that the gut becomes more and more permeable in the attempt to obtain more necessary nutrition.  This leads to longer chains of protein amino acids instead of simple digested chains of 1-3 ones.  These longer chains “look more” like invading bacteria or virus or fungus or even parasites to our immune systems.  Our immune systems now catalog this chain from this food as an allergen, and a symptom (allergy as a warning) is developed.

Before a child is born, the mother should be getting sufficient nutrition for at least 10 months prior to birth.  The father needs good nutrition as well for at least 2 months prior to conception.  After that, he’s done until the next time.

Without really good nutrition, the first baby deletes the mother’s body (baby has priority generally).   If she has another baby shortly after, this baby (and the mother) will be “shorted” even more.  And the downward spiral continues.

Even MD’s with their poor knowledge of nutrition in general are now giving expectant mothers vitamins and minerals.

The truth – Those prescription supplements are not nearly enough for what most pregnant women need.  They (and ignorant MD’s) are “scammed” by Big Pharma into believing that their more costly formula of vitamins and minerals is “better” than the ones from the health food store.   The truth is that they are usually inferior to what is needed for a healthy pregnancy.

It’s a fact that “we are what we eat”.  (Or, as a friend of mine put it, “we are what we digest”.  As an 80 year old male, I can remember eating foods as a young person that were quite different from what young children eat today.  I would have been diagnosed ADHD had I been able to eat what kids today eat.   Candy and other sweet foods were limited, and we ate naturally ripe garden produce in season, and without pesticides.  The meat was often local, and steroids and antibiotics weren’t in the food chain.

We have changed some foods by various “scientific” methods.  Some of these provide faster (more profitable) foods, and some of this has been good, or at least “not bad”.  However, all too often, the profit motive is stronger than the health motive.  The “new and improved” genetically altered corn turned out to be a horrible mistake.  There’s a law that prohibits it from being fed to humans, and supposedly it is only being fed to the food animals.  (And the jury is still out on whether this could be another mistake.  Why is it that we always seem to err on the profit side, never the public health side?  And, why is Nature much better than our scientists?)

So, what’s the answer?  Unfortunately, there’s not much we can do about a lot of the problems.  At least the mercury has been taken out of the baby vaccines, (or so we’re told) and the lead has been taken out of the gasoline, and we’ve started to stop pesticides in this country at least.  But, we’re still at risk!  Food from other countries is coming in with little or no control, and we suffer.  Even our animals are dying from this!   (Look at the Chinese pet food recall, and we are buying more and more human food from China!)

The old cliché about “you can get all the nutrition you need from the supermarket” is very false.  Today, in this ever worsening world, everyone needs vitamin and mineral supplements.

Vitamin/Mineral Supplementation

For the last 25 years of my 80 year old life, I’ve gradually changed my vitamin/mineral regimen.  I wish I had started it much earlier.  I also wish I had never smoked.  I might live forever in better health if so.  What we do in our thoughtless youth comes back to haunt us in older age.

The following regime is recommended as a MINIMUM for everyone over 17.

Solgar VM-75 (or equivalent- read quantities on label) 1/day w/meal.  (Not same meal when taking vitamin C, as C takes out nutritional minerals

4000mg of vitamin C split into at least 2 doses (4 is better)

If there is a problem with vitamin C, it may indicate a corn allergy.  Try switching to Calcium Ascorbate.  If this causes no problem, check for probable corn allergy.

Babies:  Breast feed as much and as long as physically possible.  Breast feeding has proved to give the baby much more protection against diseases.  Babies also come with a lot of built in immunity, and breast feeding continues this.

Children from 3-12:  You can use the generic type of one a day vitamins for most children.  B and C vitamins do not accumulate in the body.  Avoid those with very much A and D vitamins, .Avoid sweetened and so-called “child vitamins”,

Children from 12-18:  ½  VM-75, or similar.  2000 mg of vitamin C,

Preventing Digestive Problems

A major problem here is that antibiotics kill all bacteria, and our digestion was designed to use “friendly” bacteria occurring in nature to help in the digestion of food, AND to actually produce some
much needed materials there.  If the friendly bacteria are killed by antibiotic action, then yeast and/or fungus colonies take over the friendly bacteria spots.  This means that several “known” actions don’t take place or are severely curtailed.  These are:

    1.  B12 isn’t transported into the body as well.
    2.  Some other nutrients aren’t digested as well, and this leads to the “leaky gut” in the attempt to gain more needed nutrition.
    3.  Vitamin K which is manufactured in the gut doesn’t get made.

So, what’s the answer?  It’s actually pretty simple.  Avoid taking antibiotics needlessly!  If you have an infection or bacterial disease, take them of course – and take them for the entire time needed, NOT just until you feel better).

When you finish taking the last antibiotic pill or capsule, on the following day, take 10-20 Acidophilus capsules.  Take the same amount every other day for at least 5 times, until your feces turns a light color for at least 2 days, and any methane gas expelled has virtually no smell for two to three days.  If you have severe gas and cramping after the first day, it’s because your gut is loaded with yeast and fungus, and it’s being killed off, and rotting.  How’s that for a nice picture?

Another gut problem is too little fiber.  For years all the doctors knew that we didn’t digest sugar formed into cellulose or fiber, so they thought we didn’t need it.  They were all wrong.  Nature (and evolution) uses what is there always, even if we aren’t smart enough to see that.

Do you eat a lot of leafy green veggies?  If so, you may be getting enough fiber.  If not, you might get in trouble.  The two primary things that leafy green veggies supply are:
    Fiber
    Magnesium
Yes, they also supply folic acid, a B vitamin, and maybe Popeye needs it, but to me the most important are the other two.  (I have always hated leafy green veggies, so I have to be sure to intake both fiber and magnesium from other sources.  Folic acid is in the
VM-75.

Look at your stool.  Does it float or sink?  What color is it?  If consistently light colored and not that smelly, you’re probably in fair to good shape for friendly bacteria.

Solving Mental Allergy Problems

About 85-90% of the ADD-autism continuum is caused by “unknown” allergies (unknown to the sufferer).  We also know that this same percentage of children (and many adults) can become either “normal”, or close to such using EEG Biofeedback (aka Neurofeedback Training) or Neuroliminal Brain Wave Training.

Since this is such a striking “co-incidence”, I first proposed the theory that “raising the SMR brain wave somehow changes the affect on the brain of allergens”.  This theory has lots of anecdotal evidence to support if at this time, and there is no other working theory extant.

In addition to the ADD-autism continuum, Neuroliminal Training solves insomnia in over 90% of all persons tested to date, and 85% of all depressive tested to date.  This compares favorably to EEG BF in success rate, and offers an affordable alternate to both dangerous drugs (Ritalin, Xanax, et al), and expensive EEG BF.  More info at:

We can’t reverse what we’ve done to our food supply and our bodies as a result of poor and corrupt science, but we can prevent more of the same, and the above will help you and yours to somewhat better health.  In one class where I gave out free samples (30 each) of the Solgar VM-75, well over half the 55 students reported feeling much better the next week.

I get no money or even a professional discount from Solgar or any other supplement company.  My wife and I and most of my family have used the above recommendations for well over 20 years.  (Side note – neither my wife nor I have ever noticed any difference over a week of taking any of the “miracle” liquids such as mangosteen, noni juice, etc.  We believe that people who do are malnourished!)

Good luck and health to you and yours.

Looking for a good women’s health magazine can be daunting. Women’s health is big business. It’s not that your health is any worse than men’s. But with the additional burden of preventing conception and carrying children, your health is more easily and more commonly affected.

You may be looking for a women’s health magazine that provides you with effective, alternatives to drugs for gynaecological problems. No woman wants the inconvenience of long or painful periods and it’s worse when you’re trying to hold down a demanding job. But drugs take their toll too, from unwanted side effects to causing cancer.

A good quality women’s health magazine should cover aspects such as;

  • checking your breasts regularly for lumps. What about mammograms. They’re extremely uncomfortable, if not downright painful. Can they really be helpful? Are there any alternatives not offered you by mainstream medicine?
  • alternative contraceptive methods to the pill. It’s unfair that the role of responsibility for preventing unwanted pregnancies seems to fall, for the most part, on women. Although that means you’re more in control, it also means the potential of more harm to your body.
  • effective alternatives to surgery. You may prefer to explore these first, before committing to irreversible surgery.

Some gynaecologists think that nature got it wrong when creating a woman’s body, and that science can put it right. You may take exception to that idea. Or perhaps just don’t want your organs removed unless there really is no other choice.

Were you aware that the term hysterectomy is derived from the word hysteria? That may give you an insight into the way medical science views women in general.

Did you know that breast cancer is big business in the pharmaceutical industry? Could it be that they don’t want you to know about cures because that would affect their business? There have been so many documented cases of natural cures of cancer now, that they’re almost common place.

Whatever it is you’re looking for in a quality women’s health magazine, there’s no getting away from the effective and low cost homeopathic treatment of gynaecological issues. And that’s not taking into consideration the lack of side effects or long term consequences. There just aren’t any.

Homeopathic treatment is all about getting to the cause of the problem. In your case that could be from typical women’s health issues such as taking the pill or childbirth, but it could also be from a more general cause such as concussion or a tetanus vaccine.

Did you know that there are two ways of using homoeopathic remedies? One is to use the services of a professional homeopath, which is the only sensible way to resolve deep issues.

But you can also use homoeopathic remedies in the safety of your own home, given some sound advice and a homeopathic home prescribing kit.

So a good quality women’s health magazine needs to cover aspects of general health, as well as that specifically related to women’s health. Aspects such as

  • a good diet. After all, diet is such a large part of good health, you need to ensure you’ve got a handle on that.
  • dietary supplements. There are many available and they’re not all equal. How do you know which is most effective?
  • effective, alternative, natural medicines. Why take drugs or have surgery if you don’t have to?

Natural health is timeless. It will never date. It will always be relevant, despite what the media tells you about ‘new’, ‘improved’, ‘scientific’ and all the other gimmicky words that are only employed to impress you enough to buy something.

And, happily, natural health is currently enjoying the comeback it deserves.

To enjoy it, there are at least three really important aspects to address.

The first is your diet. There’s a saying that a quarter of what you eat keeps you alive. Three quarters of what you eat keeps your doctor alive. So if you eat a typical western diet of fast foods, canned drinks and sweets or chocolate, you know you’re heading for disaster.

A natural diet consists of lots of fresh fruit and vegetables, preferably raw. Raw isn’t essential, but will take you that extra mile. As long as at least 30% is raw, you’ll do all right. By raw I mean unpasteurised, unheated in any way, un-radiated, unadulterated. Just fresh produce recently harvested.

So fresh produce should be the bulk of your diet. If you can’t see yourself eating a lot of fresh produce, then I suggest you invest in a food dehydrator. That dries fresh food without losing the nutrients in them. Have you ever tried dried strawberries? They are absolutely delicious.

I’m sure you’ll enjoy making your own un-sundried tomatoes, too.

And try foods you haven’t tried before. My neighbour has never tried avocado and yet they could grow in her back yard. Be adventurous!

The next biggest food group is the nuts, seeds, rice, oats and yoghurt

Then come eggs, bread, wheat, cereal, fish, chicken, chocolate.

Then comes the red meat.

Lastly comes artificial sweeteners. My suggestion is to avoid these altogether.

This diet follows the 80/20 principle. Eat 80% alkalising foods (fruit, veggies, whole foods) and only 20% acid food (meat, sugar, processed foods such as white bread, white pasta, white rice, sweets).

If you maintain this diet, it’s amazing what ailments won’t affect you. Make sure 100% of what you eat goes into keeping you healthy, not just alive. And let the doctors starve!

Another really important aspect of natural health is your health care modality. Obviously that’s going to be a natural one. Which you choose is a very personal matter. But I suggest you remain open and honour your feelings. Your feelings will always take you in the right direction. I have long since learnt the folly of following my head over my feelings. It never works!

With evidence now suggesting a link between taking antibiotics and cancer, your choice of a natural health care system will ensure as healthy a body as you can get. All drugs and medication have a knock-on effect with your health. That’s why it becomes a slippery slope – you suddenly find you’re on a myriad of drugs, with one countering another’s side effects.

The last important point of natural health, is keeping your environment healthy. This will almost guarantee you a healthy body. This means your home really is your castle, your sanctuary. Make sure you create a peaceful and happy home. Work on areas that aren’t. Don’t put up with them. It may be your upbringing that makes you a negative person. It may be you are living with people who don’t support you. List those things that aren’t nurturing you and decide what to do about them.

Time spent with animals is invariably calming, as is time spent in nature. Visit the park regularly. Walk on the beach. Watch a thunderstorm. Make sure you have, even if short, time for yourself every day. And use it to recharge your batteries – whether it’s gardening, sun-bathing or walking your dog. Just make sure it benefits you. That without it, you’re more volatile, have less energy or just don’t cope as well.

Many people think they can’t have time out for themselves as they have too much to do. This is not how it works. The more you stress, the less you accomplish. The less you stress, the more you accomplish and in less time.

Natural health is really all about you being in control of you. You create your life. So why not make it as fun, as joyful as possible? You are important. If you’re joyful, it will rub off on others.

Maybe subscribe to a natural health magazine as that will not only help keep you on track, but will also provide you with useful hints and tips.

And lastly, don’t forget that people will readily mock you, with your new found natural health care, because you’ll be showing them up. Don’t let them dissuade you.

When it comes to minimizing the effects of psoriatic arthritis on the body, it is important to visualize the two contributing conditions as unique problems. Psoriasis is far different from arthritis, even though the two conditions fall under the tent of a psoriatic arthritis diagnosis.

Keeping Psoriasis at Bay

The most effect way of minimizing psoriasis outbreaks is to take care of the skin. This includes treating the body well from the inside in order to optimize the skin’s ability to protect itself. Patients need to maintain a healthy diet that is rich in essential fatty acids which work to improve overall body health and decrease the inflammation associated with both psoriasis and arthritis.

Triggers are also an important part of keeping skin flare-ups at bay. Triggers can include medications, alcohol consumption, smoking and stress. Quitting drinking and smoking will go a long way toward keeping skin effects at bay and may also help improve joint health. Keeping a journal of any medications that cause a skin flare-up is also important. If a doctor tries to prescribe the same medication again, you can advise him or her of the previous affects on the skin and a new medication can be chosen.

Physical care of the skin is also important. Moisturizers can be used to keep skin from drying out and developing itchy spots. In addition to applying moisturizes directly to the skin, an internal moisturizer can also help. Many people do not consume enough water which can leave the skin dry. Increasing water intake is an easy way to moisturize the skin naturally.

Keeping Arthritis at Bay

Some of the same life changes made to keep psoriasis flare-ups from occurring will positively affect joint health. But, there are some specific changes that can directly affect arthritis. The most important is the addition of exercise and reduction of weight.

The joints are protected by sheaths of natural cushioning that stop the bones from rubbing together. These cushions deteriorate, over time, when arthritis affects the joints. Additional weight will increase the deterioration dramatically. Exercise can help to reduce weight and inflammation associated with arthritis. In addition, the healthy dietary changes made to treat psoriasis can also be adjusted to reduce caloric intake and thus reduce weight. Increasing water intake and essential fatty acids will also positively affect joint health. These are both good choices for psoriasis treatment as well.

Exercise is also an important step in reducing inflammation. Even if the patient is not overweight exercise is important. While the joints may be a bit tender at first, movement will distribute the built up fluid and the swelling will go down. It is important to take your time when starting a new exercise program to minimize the muscle pain associated.

There are some treatments and prevention tactics that will help both psoriasis and arthritis. These changes will have the greatest impact on psoriatic arthritis as a whole. But, it is also important to make changes that will affect each branch of the condition as well. Treating the parts can often result in a reduction of symptoms as a whole

What is a food supplement? Food supplement is a complement, nutrition and not a substitute for food. Food supplements in general, including vitamins (eg vitamin C) and minerals, Botanical (eg herbs and plant products), and the substance or substances derived from natural sources (eg, milk whey and glucosamine).

You may or may not know that we produce our OWN stem cells…but first things first, let’s clear up what are stem cells before we go any further.

Stem cells are sometimes, appropriately, referred to as ‘master’ or ‘blank’ cells. They are the basic cells from which all other, more specialised cells develop and there are two basic types of stem cells – embryonic stem cells (that are found in embryos) and adult stem cells (that are found in adults).

Currently controversy surrounds the use of embryonic stem cells but no such controversy exists where adult stem cells are concerned, because these cells occur naturally in our bodies.

In fact production of stem cells is found to take place throughout the body, although this production occurs most importantly in the bone marrow.

In intimate partnership with the immune system and the cleansing system, adult stem cell production comprises an integral part of the body’s rejuvenation and renewal processes.

The body is in a constant state of renewal, with cells continually dying and being replaced by new cells of the same kind. But each new cell is formed from the basic template of a stem cell.

Stem cells are able to develop into many different types of cell and when one divides, each new cell thus formed has the potential to either remain a stem cell or transform into another type of cell with a specialized function, such as a brain cell, skin cell or a red blood cell.

When released, new stem cells assist problem areas of the body by dividing to produce specialized cells that are required to replace specialized cells that have died. Stem cells can theoretically divide without limit to replenish other cells as long as the body is alive.

One aspect of this ongoing renewal process is that stem cells help with repair to damaged tissue. When a tissue becomes damaged it sends out chemical signals that attract the stem cells to the injured area. Then, by dividing and producing new cells of the type required, the stem cells then provide a repair function.

This rejuvenation-repair role becomes increasingly important to us as we grow older. This of course begs the question as to how and why we age when out bodies continue as they do to produce rejuvenative stem cells?

It looks increasingly as if scientific research has yielded some answers because aging – as science has begun to prove in the last few years – is solidly linked to what is known as “Oxidative Stress” (OS). OS is the process by which the cells and organs – which are essentially colonies of cells – become damaged from long-term exposure to free radicals.

This Oxidative Stress, a process of degeneration that is to the cells much as rusting is to iron (and explained in my free book on Wild Blue-Green Algae available from Freedom Plaza), is linked to just about any degenerative disease you can think of: for example, autoimmune disorders, all types of cancers, heart disease, arthritis, asthma, and most skin disorders and very many more. Most of the physical signs of aging you see on people or indeed yourself when you look in the mirror, wrinkles, sagging skin, and so on are directly due to the chronic cellular damage cause the OS process.

Scientific research has now uncovered the fact that OS can also inhibit the production of adult stem cells. It also inhibits the ability to function of the stem cells that are produced to function as healthy new cells in our bodies.

This effect of oxidative stress upon stem cells may in fact be one of the missing links in our understanding of aging and thus our ability to alleviate the ravages of time upon the body.

Yoga is not a recent practice. It is a practice which through time, has developed and increased in significance and appeal worldwide. The rationale behind the appeal is greatly to do with the physical and psychological benefits experienced when integrating yoga into one’s daily schedule. Yoga can be viewed as a breath of fresh air in this fast paced lifestyle that we live in.

The word yoga comes from the Sanskrit language and means “to integrate”. Yoga promotes a harmonious working together of the body’s components leading to both physical and mental training. Despite the fact that there are numerous forms of yoga; Hatha Yoga is still presently seen as one of the more commonly practiced yoga styles. Hatha Yoga consists of non strenuous physical exercise which aids in strengthening, stretching and balancing the body’s joints. Regular breathing is performed at the same time which aids in providing oxygen to the muscles, and in turn positively affects bodily structures and organs. The awareness required during yoga practice, ensures that mind and body have to work together to create a mind-body harmony which in turn promotes healing.

Yoga will not be a quick fix for all your aches, worries and pains. However, with regular yoga practice your body will rebalance slowly and steadily, leaving you discovering the results for yourself. Physical benefits which you can anticipate are improved efficiency of the lungs, better use of your respiratory muscles, improved flexibility of the joints, improved coordination and muscle tone, maintenance of bone density, reduced risk of injury as well as the prevention of weight gain. Psychological benefits can also include an increase in self-confidence, decreased cravings for tobacco and food, better sleep, an increased ability to relax, improved concentration as well as a reduced likelihood of depression. Yoga differentiates itself from other exercises as it draws on the entire person as a whole.

Half an hour of yoga a day, or 15 minutes of yoga twice a day, can easily be incorporated into any daily schedule. Some breathing techniques can even be practiced while working or driving home after a long day. A short routine for those of you spending hours staring at a computer screen is to take a few moments every day to glance at a distant object. This allows your eyes a moments rest from glare and a change of focus. Look left and right, up and down at least 5 times, blink at least 8 times to moisten your eyes and if it is at all possible, rest your elbows on a comfortable surface and close your eyes whilst covering them with the palm of your hands. If you can incorporate this with or without some breathing exercises, you will already be on the way to a healthier and possibly more focused lifestyle.

Baby steps everyone…no one expects you to transform overnight.

If you are trying to lose weight, or wanted to maintain it, then you need to understand what body weight and body fats are.

Body weight consists of three things – bones, muscles and fat. On the average, a healthy female’s bones consist 12% of total body weight, muscle or lean tissue is at 35% and body fat at about 27%. The remaining weight is composed of the skin, tendons, blood, organs, and connective tissues.

Unknown to many, body fat is actually lighter than muscle. This is why physical exercise can actually make you gain weight instead of losing it. This goes to show that weight loss

exercise isn’t always about lessening your body weight.

Unlike muscles, fat needs lesser energy to be maintained. This is why it is important to maintain your body fat percentage if you are looking to have a healthy weight loss. Body fat percentage is basically the amount of body fat tissue in your body. For example, if your total body weight is at 160 pounds and you have 32 pounds of fat, then you have about 20% of body fat percentage.

Now you’re probably asking, what’s the need to calculate body fat? Well, the higher your body fat percentage, the greater is the risk of getting health related illnesses such as hypertension, heart disease, diabetes and many others.

While it is true that a high body fat percentage is already a cause for concern, it is also important to know where the fat is stored. Fat stored around our middle (also called visceral fat) is the worst case. According to several studies on health, excess abdominal fat is linked to high blood sugar, high cholesterol level and high blood pressure. It increases the risk for heart disease and stroke.

According to a study published at Anne Collins, gender is a strong determinant of body fat distribution. Men tend to store fat around their middle (hence, the apple body shape), while women store fat around their pelvis, thighs and butt (the pear body shape). Aside from gender, there are also several hereditary factors which affect the tendency to accumulate extra weight in the midsection. Also, age is a strong factor, but this is linked primarily to the lack of exercise – old men and women no longer exercise because they tend to get tired easily.

How do you know if you have too much fat in your midsection? Well, the answer is pretty easy – check your waist circumference. For women, an unhealthy waist circumference is at 35 inches and for men, above 40 inches means that you’re already overweight.

Spirulina is a variety of blue-green algae that has remained virtually unchanged since it first appeared on the earth more than 3.5 billion years ago. So named because of its helix or “spiral” shape, Spirulina has gained prominence as nature’s green “superfood” because of its rich concentration of perfectly balanced amino acids (protein), fiber, vitamins, minerals and other essential nutrients.

Spirulina is also naturally “pumped” with vitamins, especially the carotenoids like beta-carotene, essential fatty acids (EFA’s), the important fatty acid gamma linolenic acid (GLA), digestive enzymes, minerals and the richest plant source of vitamin B12. Spirulina is the “must have” green food- a complete protein with all eight essential amino acids present. Its 60% protein content is four times greater than beef (18%)! In our society, where the concept of complete protein is meat and dairy, it is very reassuring to know that greens like Spirulina can provide all the high quality protein and other nutrients needed.

A single serving of Spirulina contains 45% of your daily value of vitamin B12. That’s good news and reassuring for vegetarians, many of who are incorrectly led to believe that eating animal food is critical to getting this essential blood building vitamin.

Spirulina also helps with a variety of other ailments. DNA repair, cholesterol, and communication between cells are all helped with just a little bit of this supplement.

One of the main benefits stands to gain is the improvement of immune system. There have been many studies conducted that have shown that spirulina greatly helps to increase not only red blood cell production, but also the activity of the cells of bone marrow. Even T cells and macrophages have been increased.

Other studies conducted by Japanese scientists have shown that the growth of herpes virus, measles, and influenza have all been stunted by spirulina. Polysaccharides, phycocyanin and beta carotene are the active components of spirulina, which work to improve the immune system.

Spirulina also manages to fight bacteria such as E.coli and encourages the growth of good bateria in order to ensure that our bodies function well.

Another great attribute of spirulina is that it detoxifies one’s system well. A study revealed that spirulina actually helps decrease the toxicity of certain other drugs on one’s kidneys.

It also works to increase good cholesterol and reduce bad cholesterol for those who have ingested just a few grams of it a day. Of course as with any other sort of supplement or drug, one should always consult their physician before taking taking it in order to avoid a possible allergic reaction.

Give spirulina a try. I believe you will find that it will improve your health and support your efforts at healthy living.

There is nothing admirable in wearing ill-fitting clothes. They sure provide coverage but not in an agreeable way. In this world, the kind and type of clothes you wear reflects your personality. For somebody who religiously goes to the gym to get in shape and stay in shape, wearing an ill-fitting suit will not do his ripped and toned body any justice. Hence, fitness and clothes need to complement each other to make give a person an appealing packaging. This is especially true when it comes to business suits. Show off that fit body with an excellent fitting suit and surprise your colleagues and bosses with the more confident, competitive and corporately handsome or pretty YOU.

Most of the time, people make and give impressions to the people they meet by the clothes they wear. When it comes to the work environment, appearances can make or break a great employee. Surely, the boss would favor somebody who looks sharp and effective. One way of achieving that display is by wearing a perfect-fitting business suit. You may not know it but majority of the major players in the country’s business world hire teams of people to help him complete his business wardrobe just to make sure that he wears the right color and fit of business suits at all times. To most people, one’s taste and preferences for business suit measure up to his business sense.

Great fitting suits are definitely wise investments. They sure leave an impression of being dressed for success. In addition, when you are working in a highly competitive work environment, the wearing the right fitting suit on your fit body gives an air of formality and professionalism, which hastens your bosses’ evaluation of your competency.

Hence, the key to dressing dapper is choosing the complementing color and fit of suit. Pay close attention to the way the fabric falls on your body, not on how much it costs. While getting the right fitting suit is a challenge, there are some simple tips that you can follow when shopping. Smart looking suits are usually very low-key so stay away from bold colors and designs. When it comes to fabric, go for classic colors such as charcoal, navy and black as well as subtle pinstripes. Two-button fitted jackets and slim cut trousers are a popular choice of cut but to better showcase your trimmed and tone frame, the best way to go is by choosing straight skinny trousers. When it comes to jackets, say no to boxy and over-sized shoulder lines. Say yes to narrow cut shoulders and sleeves that hit thumb knuckle and slightly pointed lapel to get a sharp-looking suit that enhances the torso.

A smart and sharp looking ensemble never fails to complement the confidence and spirit of its wearer. Nothing makes a more confident man than a great-fitting business suit. Aside from that, it helps make and leave an agreeable impression to the people that you meet and do business every day. More importantly, they provide the most welcome and elegant opportunity to showcase your hard work in the gym.

Body massagers are excellent tools for penetrating the deep tissues of the body and providing relaxation. The key to a healthy body and mind is making sure that toxins and stress are released from the body.

We all know that our bodies are overworked on a daily basis. Day after day, we combat ourselves with dealing with lives pressures. It could be that bombardment at work, the deadline that seems like its only minutes away, or the boss breathing heavily down your back. At home, the kids could be crying, the house needing a clean, as well as cooking and doing the washing. Poor eating and lack of concentration can cause toxins to build up in your body in no time. These toxins represent themselves in colds, slow healing, or lack of energy.

The wonders of body massage can do more than you think. As a body massage is given, circulation into the deep tissue is increased. The extra blood flow provides a river of oxygen that is essential to help clean and heal damaged cells. As we age, our cells pack together more tightly. Muscles can have a hard time transporting vital lubricants to tendons and joints. If they are not loosened periodically, age related conditions like arthritis can easily attack.

There are hundreds of medications on the market. After reading two or three side effects, it’s often wondered if it is worth the hassle. As a holistic approach, body massage has proven itself.

Body massage can be achieved through the hands or mechanical devises. Of course, anyone would love to spend the afternoon in the hands of a masseuse; however it can be a costly visit. Mechanical devices are far less expensive and can be used at anytime and in the comforts of your own home.

Combined with reflexology, body massage is the ultimate treatment for many symptoms. Reflexology is the art of applying pressure to various zones of the feet to release tensions in different parts of the body.

People develop stress in different areas of the body. Foot massage is beneficial to people with vein disease or in diabetics who suffer from decreased peripheral blood flow.

Neck or back stress can cause problems in lifting and concentration. Massage cushions or hand held body massagers can help to release those tensions through pulsing vibrations or from movable parts that provide a powerful touch in the right places. . Lumbar cushions can help provide specialized heat penetration to the softer muscles of the lower back or shoulders.

Therapeutic body massage can benefit many functions of the body. Increased muscle tone, better skin elasticity, improved circulation, ease with digestion, and lower blood pressure can all be achieved through body massage.

Holistic remedies help thousands of people worldwide to overcome problems ranging from more serious diseases to the common cold. Holistic Therapist Nitchara Yimsuk answers some frequently asked questions, and tips us off about a versatile treatment called moxibustion.

What does holistic mean?

In holistic treatments we look at the whole person – physical, emotional and spiritual – rather than just treating the symptoms of the problem. We consider a person’s mind and body, diet and exercise, lifestyle and relationships, work and leisure, achievements and problems. Imbalances in any of these areas can contribute to illness.

Where do holistic treatments come from?

Holistic medicine is also known as alternative, integrative or complementary medicine, as it complements conventional practices. It may include, but is not limited to, the following disciplines: spiritual, religious, newly developed approaches to healing or pre-modern medical traditions. Chinese medicine, for instance, follows the holistic principle.

How do they work?

There are many approaches, from energy healing to the use of natural and plant products. The Taoist principles, on which Chinese medicine is based, stress the oneness of everything, the inseparability of solid matter and energy, the fact that there is a common source of all phenomena and experience.

What are some of Chiva-Som’s most popular holistic treatments?

The Detox Retreat is popular. It includes the Cleansing Diet, Colonic Hydrotherapy, Chi Nei Tsang and Acupressure Reflexology. Also high on the list are Flower Essence, Homeopathy and Moxibustion.

What is Moxibustion?

It’s a treatment from Traditional Chinese Medicine in which the herb Moxa Punk is burned on or above the skin at acupuncture points. Sometimes we use other herbs.

How does it work?

The heat warms the blood and the qi (the life force), which improves the flow within the energy channels of the body. Sometimes Moxibustion is recommended as a stand-alone treatment, at others it has a synergistic effect with acupuncture.

Why is it so effective?

The Moxa leaf is bitter and acrid and its nature is pure Yang. Depending on the amount used it produces a gentle warmth or a strong heat and expels cold and dampness.

What is Moxibustion recommended for?

It’s varied. It may be used in the treatment of acute diseases, cold syndromes, diseases of the channel and exterior syndromes, or chronic syndromes and diseases of the viscera (the internal organs). It’s frequently applied in treating arthralgia due to wind-cold-dampness. Also Yang collapse syndrome; Chronic Dysentery, Asthma, Phlegm Retention and Flaccidity Syndrome. It’s also good for some external syndromes, such as carbuncles and the common cold. Additionally, it can work in general health maintenance and disease prevention.

We hear it’s also useful in pregnancies?

Yes, Moxibustion has been used for centuries in China to turn breech babies. The theory behind this practice is that the heat travels up the bladder meridian, which is linked to the uterus. Additionally, it’s useful in treating some Gynaecological Diseases – such as Dysmenorrhea, Prolapse of the uterus, and Leucorrhoea – and Infantile Diseases, including Enuresis and Diarrhoea. Moxibustion is very versatile.

What are the latest holistic treatments that Chiva-Som is offering?
