    alw,
I’m sorry about the loss of your mother. I don’t think we ever get over the loss of some one we love. I miss my father who passed 9 yrs ago, but I’m glad he is at peace. My mom has Alzheimer’s & she doesn’t want any life preserving measures I had to sign a form at the nursing home the other day to confirm her DNR I just sat there looking at that damn paper not wanting to sign it. I pray God takes her peacefully through the night. She told me she’s ready.
    Peace be with you.

Ugh, I remember when I was told by the Doctor they could not revive my mother. It’s like they were asking me the question to take her off life support. They were just doing CPR on her and chest compressions. It didn’t work and then I was told I had to make a decision and in 10mins they would stop everything. That was the hardest choice I ever made in my life. That was 9months ago. It still feels like yesterday 🙁

@uliarcher47 men do have feelings but it’s a very different grieving process for them…in my experience, being numb comes first before letting it out, whereas women will scream or cry or laugh at the absurdity of it all…not saying that’s universal, it’s just my experience

The part that breaks my heart is when M’Lynn is driving to Aunt Fern’s to get Jack Jnr. She’s crying and so sad. Then she sees that little “pumpkin.”

I have to say, having experienced grief a couple of times now in my life, it is very different than I understood it as a child. Grief strikes us all so differently, and it really does cause very unexpected reactions that poeple who aren’t in your position just don’t understand.
When my aunt lost her son to cancer, I didn’t understand her feelings, but since I have had my own experiences in that area, I realize how cruel and how foolish I was to judge her and others behavior.

Maybe he was watching espn, but (as a woman) I also do things to detach myself & deal with life! I know guys are detached, but we women are too in our own way.

I don’t think the men are selfish in this movie, no more than than the women- they just don’t know how to deal with their grief & frustration with all the situations. such an amazing film!

OMG you guys- I don’t mean to make this political, but this scene is what is meant by a living will & not a so-called ‘death panel’. I have had so many family members go through this & it is the most awful thing to not know what you family member would have wanted. Its so much better to know & have them tell you what they want & have that plan, rather than try to make the decision when you are overly-emotional & sleep deprived & at your wits end. Knowing is power & makes all the difference.

I love the scene between Trudy and her husband, when he seems to wake up from his depressive slumber and feel Jackson’s pain. It was understated and well done.

She probably hasn’t slept in days, she’s drained from lack of a real meal, emotionally full, being torn this way and that in her heart, her brain is working overtime, and staring at her only daughter that may never wake up again. The request to leave her daughter, to her, was unreasonable, no matter what tone he used.. Considering these facts, it’s easy to see how ‘selfish’ she was being.
